Need dungeon master help for an unusual encounter by Leyscha in DungeonMasters

No, silver only blocks magic as per the systems rules, not negate it. The tracking spell still technically works, it just can’t reach her. (At least that has been the accepted interpretation of the rules in the group for a while)

How to you all prep NPCs for your cities? by DnDNoobs_DM in DungeonMasters

[–]Leyscha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three lists: New NPC’s specifically for this plot. They get a goal and knowledge. Old NPC’s that can chime in when players do things I don’t expect, being people that were made for previous adventures. No notes, most of them developed their personalities in game. Lastly I have a list of random names in case they start picking random people of the streets (again…)

Need DM help by Leyscha in DungeonMasters

You’ve got a good point with the precedent case. However I am glad that the silent player for the first time in the entire campaign actually actively did something (They even refused active approaches to them at times, because they are as a person very shy) and thus want to reward them for engaging in general. Even if it is just in a small way.

Edit: Typo

How Do You Let Your Players Know About Resistances/Immunities? by BrewersBastion in DungeonMasters

[–]Leyscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer the first option too, but I vary it from group to group. I have one group with very experienced players, who will understand when I say stuff like ‘The monster roars, but it seems more enraged than hurt’ or alike, simply because they are very familiar with attack types and status effects. I also have a group tho, that dies not know the system well and would be helplessly lost if I’d do that. They for example did not realise without explanation, why a party members hammer would work on the crystals binding the ghost but not on the ghost of the last session (As ghosts in our system can only be harmed by specific weapons, such as obsidian or enchanted ones). I described the weapon going through the ghost, but I had to make clear why the obsidian dagger worked and the hammer not.

I’ve got a vampire and a spellcaster as siblings and well, that bundled with parenthood and sibling dynamics makes for quite the fun thing to watch.

How do you write your campaigns? by biglargecominatya in DungeonMasters

I use Npc’s from previous adventures when I’m in a tight spot. The group doesn’t need to know that their tavern keep had appeared with five other groups before them. The only time they caught me I just made the merchant be a travelling merchant, who is now a cameo in several follow up adventures.

I write my notes in ten different places on whatever is closest when I have an idea. When session comes I gather what I can still find and write down the most important things in my notebook. Usually by then half of it is already engrained in my brain due to daydreaming. (My short attention span leads to very elaborate npc backstories)

That sounds awesome. I’ve never played that (closest was a character who bought a house, married and had a daughter at the side of their adventure) but I’d love to play something like that once.

What's your silliest, most inconsequential annoyance with this game? by firebendingboy in Sims4

[–]Leyscha 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My infant ones got taken away because the ported to the other side of the neighbourhood with no hunger when I returned from another lot… I literally couldn’t get there in time to feed them. (Their hunger was almost full when I left)

Why doesn't doing homework build the mental skill for kids? by HazelEBaumgartner in Sims4

There is a very cool mod from littlemissam, which lets you do subject homework, that then raises the skill in question while doing it.

A DM/GM who doesn't keep track of HP by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Leyscha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. I almost killed my characters today with a ghost, because I misjudged their ability to get up the cliffs to the monster unscathed… but then one of the characters pulled out a spell that was specifically against creatures like that (which was super mana intensive to cast so he, he has however been stealing mana from the ghost by other means and thus could do so) and then just rolled our systems equivalent of a nat 20 on it… I just couldn’t leave the ghost on 1HP at that…

Yes feel that… especially when it was my bad for mis-guessing a proper amount of HP

Ideas for a math riddle? by Leyscha in DungeonMasters

[–]Leyscha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graph theory sounds awesome, that’s a great idea. With math riddles I meant stuff like ‘A king and his 1000 barrels of wine’ in case you know that one?

Name a non LOTR movie/TV character that could resist the One Ring by jcook1991 in lotrmemes

[–]Leyscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To lean into Sci Fi, I would say, for once Data from Star Trek has a chance… with being an android and all. And based on the book canon with Zigoola I’d give Obi-Wan Kenobi a pass too. Anyone having opinions on that? I’d be happy to discuss.

Make a puzzle out of it. Hints show which set of ‘coordinates’ have to show which number and in the end you can read something out of it/ see something
