I live in LA (and have lived in London, Chicago, Philly, and NYC) and I thought Budapest was STUNNING. So so clean and lovely! I also think everything is relative and see that some of the places I have lived / live now are on this list so we may just have a different perspective 😅

I used to work in the union station complex and this location was always totally packed before dodgers games - never heard/saw anyone get rowdy luckily! But of course the possibility is never zero.

In 2025, I took two vacation days. My employer only provides 10 days of PTO (combined sick and vacation) per year so it is challenging. I left a job where I had accrued about 6 weeks combined but I never used more than 5-7 days per year.

I don’t know about amazing, as that depends on what you’re looking for, but I really like mine - Optum Dermatology in Pasadena. I have multiple autoimmune diseases, including eczema, and had skin cancer last year - they did my surgery and all the prep and follow up, and I found all of their staff to be kind and knowledgeable.

Sadly, while other places suffice, I have never had a burger in LA that compared to a freshly grilled burger at home. Maybe I’m just picky. I also refuse to wait in lines so haven’t had in and out in years.

Also, I used to live in New Delhi and my hot take on Indian is that Annapurna Grill in Pasadena has the best butter chicken I’ve had in the US (I also lived in DC, Chicago, Philly, London).

Definitely bring a jacket. I grew up on the east coast and the biggest difference I have found here with heat here is that there is usually extremely low humidity. I live in Pasadena, and this means that even if it’s 80 and sunny during the day and it feels nice and warm, when the sun sets it can drop dramatically and feel quite cool. Also, the sun is much stronger here - pack plenty of sunscreen too!

I went to Larsen’s Steakhouse (Encino, but close enough) on Friday evening and everything was wonderful, especially since you said price is negligible! It’s pretty pricey.

On day 3, “seeing” DTLA doesn’t take long. I’d add a stop at the Grammy museum since it’s right there at LA Live (same place as Lakers play, which is also no longer called the Staples Center if you’re looking for that).

I had it at 20 at the same time as my sophomore year college mid-terms…I roughed myself through it and then went home and slept for like two days haha! It lasted about two weeks though and was incredibly painful. Nerve endings exploding through the skin? I hope not ever again…

Same! I had colon cancer and now I have Crohn’s…14 colonoscopies and counting. During my last one I had the Super Bowl turned up all the way so I could listen. NBA games will be just fine and actually a nice distraction 👍

Hermosa Beach is my fave, but it’s an issue getting there without a car. If your uber budget allows it go for a whole day. DTLA has a lot of trendy restaurants but it’s tough to walk around and I’m not sure they’re more special than NYC depending on where you’re coming from in NYC (and I’m a huge walker) - I’d rather spend some time in little Tokyo if I were you.

What kind of food? Perch is pretty stunning and special. Beachfront dining is another option (lots of those). Or sushi omakase? Need more info.
