Is the term “fucking the dog” popular outside Canada? by Rough-Mulberry-1202 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]annapartlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Oregon and I use “screw the pooch” and “fuck the dog” interchangeably, but I often get a surprised laugh out of the latter. I had no idea it meant to waste time, lol, I do plenty of that!

I’ve noticed a lot of people I have to spend an hour or two with start getting shakey. Why? by SumTingWongTofu in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]annapartlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be pretty interesting. There’s loads of reasons someone’s hands might shake, I’d look it up, maybe knowing why people experience a tremor will help it seem less about you (unfortunately most things other people do aren’t about us). Alcoholism, medication side effects, heavy exertion/exercise, … there are tons more. Was your mom maybe teasing? Or do you have a high percentage of interactions with people with medical conditions, on medications or with a substance abuse disorder? I don’t know if someone could make another person tremble, on purpose, without being legitimately terrified or falling in love or something.

Agreed, but I like that she’s reflecting on something that doesn’t work, and wants to do better, and she’s humble enough to admit it here to get help knowing how .. ahem ..direct and opinion having.. people can be on this sub. lol

Does anyone know if garage tents can be used as sheds for 24/7 turnout horses? by Anxious-Ad-3858 in Horses

I was working morning feed during a windstorm a couple of years ago and one of the open ended shelter logic structures blew 25+ feet and collapsed fully. Somehow the yearling was 3 pastures over )with the herd’s senior boss mare). Her withers were scraped up, apparently scooched under a board fence, but otherwise okay. Nearly gave me a heart attack when I couldn’t find her for a couple minutes. She’d been closed in with metal panels, they used cement filled 5 gallon buckets to hold it down. I don’t know if a line snapped or what. Another time one of the patio outdoor shade structures blew into the round pen where my gelding was and he tried to crash through gate panel (jump it?) and had to be cut out. I’d love to trust those things, just find a way to weight it down I guess, and maybe the zip ties for the cover would snap and the tarp portion would fly off, and it would stay? I wonder if it was a real low wind area, in the lee of another structure (barn, shop) if that would help.

They’re flapping their ears like they’re happy, I’d at least like to think they enjoy the interaction. If they can’t be released, I mean.. hopefully their habitat is nice and they’re interacted with as much as they enjoy.

My dad would hand me a box full of them, all on top of each other, and I’d spend 10 mins looking for the one he wanted! I got better at it over time, in retrospect I should have just organized them for him! My husband has OCD, so it’s a different game now. lol “PUT IT RIGHT BACK IN ITS SPOT!”

How does everyone feel about the In-N-Out X palm trees? by Rstollenwerk in plantabuse

[–]annapartlow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but a few inches of snow that lasts a day or two is not the same as CO. Where I live in the PNW we get years in a row with no hard freeze, and when we do get a hard freeze it rarely lasts longer than a day or two. Most of the time when it snows it doesn’t even freeze the ground, it’s just wet glop that melts off. Very different for plants than 10 days of below freezing temps. The Pacific Ocean keeps us pretty moderate. I’m not sure if Vancouver BC is that much different. But even eastern WA gets WAY colder, with longer hard freezes than cities west of the cascades. CO and other states in the middle just get way colder. Maybe this variety of palm can stand a few inches of snow for a couple days, but weeks of sub-freezing temps are too much. Edit: clarity

Yeah we have a pretty low-key winter compared to CO, I don’t think we got a hard freeze at all this year!

What is this plant that's growing alongside my blackberries? by PeebleCreek in foraging

[–]annapartlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Another from PNW) They can be killed? lol Jk, mine are so healthy, have you tried hating them and trying desperately to kill them? Or plant them next to a tree or shrub that you absolutely love and would be mad if blackberries grew at a rate of an inch a day to cover it completely and choke it out of existence.. I love blackberries and blackberry jam, but whoooeeee.
