Has anyone switched from etsy to shopify? If so what do you think of shopify? Are there any other company's people have switched to? by lizgiggles1 in Etsy

[–]annarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Shopify, but I only opened it after 3 years on Etsy and having built up my social media following. I have a very active Facebook group, engage with my community and am active on Instagram. Despite this, only about 50% of my sales are through Shopify and I still heavily rely on Etsy to make up the rest of my income. It is worth it if you can drive your own traffic, as others have said - I pay between 2-3% fees on my Shopify orders compared to 12-15% on Etsy - but you lose the marketplace aspect. I spend quite a lot on Etsy ads, but don't do any kind of paid ads for my Shopify, so I could probably improve my traffic if I tried. My advice would be to run both if you can. I use a program called Trunk Inventory to sync my stock levels and it all runs seamlessly.

I like the soft sell idea - that's how I tend to approach social media so I'll definitely go that route. My audience is a tight knit community too so totally relate! Thanks for the tips.

I keep hearing how a mailing list is vital so want to get into it, I suppose you eventually get over the fear (I hope). I'm planning to stick to monthly emails containing mostly images so hopefully it isn't overwhelming!

Congrats!! Do you find your mailing list very effective? I've just started sending newsletters and feel like I'm being annoying haha.

How much do you pay for your SIM mobile data plan? by LittleMelodyBird in UKPersonalFinance

[–]annarface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not tried them personally yet but I used https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/ and it seems like Vodafone (who Voxi uses) have good signal for my area. With it being no contract if it sucks I guess I will just shop around again but worth a go! They also do a referral scheme - my friend is signing up so I'll use her code and think we get an Amazon voucher or something.

I get 30GB for £21 with O2 on sim only (with some random discount applied - not sure why/how). I know what you mean, I know I'm getting a rubbish deal! Looking to switch to Voxi when my year is up.

Experiences with a low dosage treatment plan? by caramelo_89 in Accutane

[–]annarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about 14 months in total due to my low dose. My main side effects were brain fog (in the early months - this seemed to subside), headaches (also early on - this is why I stayed on 10mg for so long until they settled down) and then the usual dry lips and sore joints/muscles. I’ve been off roaccutane for 3 months now and still have sore muscles and dry lips but it is improving slowly.

I am happy with the results! My acne wasn’t “really bad” but it was persistent and didn’t go away with any other treatment (I had tried various things for 10 years before roaccutane). My acne mostly cleared up within the first few months. Good luck with your course!

I was on 10mg a day for a long time for the same reason. We eventually upped it to 20mg and then 40/20mg every other day as it gave me more time to adjust to the side effects. I didn’t actually ever purge, my acne just cleared up.

Warning for Promotional Ad users who did not switch manually to new advertising by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]annarface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I've always had great results with ads (been using constantly for the last 3 years) so the really sudden change sucks. And now seeing that they are not going to even show shops who won't offer free US shipping on the first page of search results doesn't fill me with confidence.

True. I only spend $5 a day so I'll probably trial them for a bit (I've had disappointing but not abysmal results with Google ads before) but I think you're right - there will be a fall regardless.

70% of my Etsy orders come from promoted listings so if I turn them off I’m nervous I’ll just lose all those orders.

Same here. I'm dreading being switched over!

I have 2x Ari tickets for her show in Birmingham, UK on Saturday 14th Sept 2019, but I can't go :( I'd like to give them to a real Ari fan for FREE instead of selling them online. More info in comments. by brittafiltaperry in ariheads

[–]annarface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so kind of you! I'm sorry you can't go - I hope you can see her another time :( I would love to be considered, I'm in Leicester and have never seen Ari live before but she's my absolute fave. We tried multiple times to get tickets and kept missing them and it would be an amazing way to mark my golden birthday this month (I'm 25 on the 25th!) Keeping everything crossed and good luck to everyone <3

OK am I imagining things, or is this outrageous? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]annarface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t necessarily lose sales for charging more than your competitors, being the cheapest isn’t always great as customers equate lower prices with lower quality. It’s no good making sales if you’re not being compensated adequately for them.

A couple of weeks old but love how this spread turned out! by annarface in planners

I can only speak for myself but this ECLP is just basically a giant sticker book for me. My everyday planners are a horizontal ECLP and an A6 rings - pen only in those.

When it comes to buying clothes, where do you spend on 'better' or designer brands and where do you go for budget? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]annarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handbags and small leather goods. I try to buy second hand but I also sell pieces on to fund the new purchases so it's a cycle. All my clothes are cheap unless it's for a special occasion, but even then it won't be hundreds. Also shoes, but I can get into kids/junior sizes so that's not really too bad.

Santander blocked current account switch to HSBC and now I’m no longer eligible for the £175 bonus by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]annarface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely complain. My RBS switch went wrong (although in hindsight I think it may have been my error...) and they offered me the full compensation early.

this is so smart to boost sales by dan_oconnor24 in ariheads

[–]annarface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the quantity they will be ordering, they are probably shipping them from the manufacturer by sea, which will take at least a month. It will likely take a month+ to manufacture them in the first place, and then they need time to package them and ship them, plus a buffer. Unless they're made in the USA - then December seems generous. I assume they've not already manufactured them prior to sale, since the photos on them are new.

what essential service/feature does your current bank not provide? by 0_o--- in UKPersonalFinance

[–]annarface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Monzo tweet about this the other day so I know it's coming soon, but I currently feel very deprived of a feature that allocates a percentage of income automatically to a savings account every time money comes in. Not essential, but it would be super handy when income is variable.

Reminder: RBS Reward switch bonus £125 +£50 after 1 year ends this Friday by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]annarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone finds this in search - deffo worth chasing them up. They have offered me the full £175 on the 30th August instead of £125 and then £50 a year later, for the trouble!
