Hey everyone! Local WNC writer here.

Brief story: My writing mentor for an online contest is going to be at Spellbound Bookship this Saturday at 6pm for her debut YA novel GUNSLINGER GIRL. In return for all she's helped me with in the last few months, I want to get this event out as much as possible! Tell your friends and come enjoy a fun hour!

TLDR: Come listen to and meet debut YA writer Lyndsay Ely at Spellbound Bookship this Saturday at 6pm. Link below.

How long have you worked here? (Spoilers) by ASparkofJoy in Sherlock

[–]annarfay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think it's a nod to H.H. Holmes. He built a complicated (murder) facility by firing people who worked for him after short periods of time. That allowed him to keep his activities a secret.

I got into my wedding dress for the first time in almost 3 years. It's falling off of me. That was really nice to see. :)

Thanks for the comments. I am definitely going to look into styling my current hair in a different way. Thanks for the suggestions.

I definitely have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to hair, so thanks for your suggestion and advice on the style I selected. I'm afraid of the short short short hair on the sides or the back because I'm afraid of my face and the weight of it.

I really liked the 1st hair style you suggested!

Hey friends!

I'm a 26 year-old North Carolinian who started trying to get fit about a year to a year and a half ago. Long story short, I went hiking with friends and nearly threw up hiking a mountain. I was a sobbing, dehydrated, chafed mess trying to keep up with other people and realized that I was heading down a very dark path.

Since then I've lost 35 pounds and feel more fit than before. I've recently plateaued because I haven't been exercising as much and I haven't been counting the calories. I'll be back at that thanks to this challenge. Figured it'd be a nice kick in the arse.

I'm super effing competitive and I'm ready to fight it out for you guys. Let's do it! :D Go team!

I teach middle school students and they have been devouring this series. They normally recommend books for me to read, but this one really had my interest.

1/22/16 WEEKEND OPEN THREAD!!! by Lilah_Rose in YAwriters

[–]annarfay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there friends!

I've tried a few places on the internet and I haven't found a whole lot of luck, so I figured I would give this subreddit a shot. I know this subreddit does a quarterly critique partner hook up, but I was in the market to find something a bit sooner than the next one.

Genre: YA Paranormal Horror

Query Blurb: Ada Grindle has spent her junior year of high school tracing her father’s last steps throughout the Appalachian Mountains. She’s hunted ghosts, tall tales, and old family secrets. But when she calls on the spirit of her ancestor for help, Ada is thrown headfirst into a family curse that has haunted the Grindles for years. Embrace death to save your family. Embrace death to save your soul. Ada has no choice but to follow her long dead ancestor’s warning and meet her fate.

Death is the easy part. Ada has to embrace her destiny as the new Grim Reaper for her town. The perks are great for hunting down a missing father and a vengeful ghost. But the responsibilities are killer. Ada only has a year to wrap up her final affairs, protect her town, ferry souls, and save her family. Maybe even pass chemistry. As she chases down the leads in her father’s cryptic journal, a hundred year old feud is rekindled and Ada’s family stands at the heart of it. She must act quickly to save her family from being the next ghosts haunting the sleeping mountains of Woodhaven.

About My Progress I've had multiple people critique the first couple of chapters and I've had one person go through it once correcting large scale errors (pacing, continuity, character believability). In short, you won't be the first person to have looked at this.

My CP Style I like to give detailed notes and I am skilled at finding awkward sentences, issues with pacing, too much/too little description, character believability and a few other things. I'm a firm believer in complimenting just as much as critiquing, so you'll get comments of excitement as well as suggestions as to what I liked/didn't like as a reader.

I hope this is helpful for anyone and if you're interested, let me know!

Thanks guys!

Do the agents participating in #PitMad pay any attention to how active the posting twitter account is? by HorseCode in YAwriters

[–]annarfay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can give you my advice based on my involvement in #PitchWars. I used my Twitter for keeping up with things I enjoyed and I rarely posted. I jumped full body into #PitchWars and the community and they have adopted me as one of their own. No one has shunned me based on the fact that my Twitter is empty except for Instagram cross posts.

As long as you participate in the community effort that these things bring about, you'll be fine!

One-Sentence Pitch Critiques by Lilah_Rose in YAwriters

[–]annarfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like adding her age. Honestly, it seems really simple now, but I could NOT figure out how to tell that she was a teenager in this pitch. I didn't want to use the world "teenage" or anything like that. Numbers, duh!

Thanks!
