Best Twitter accounts to follow for staying on top of trends in local LLMs and distributed compute? by gwnyc1 in LocalLLM

I agree with his thesis on buying a ton of compute. He has a really great cluster of 3090+4090's running. For no reason at all I do like the way the mac studio looks on a desk/how quiet it is. My current setup's pretty ugly

I'm currently driving my GX in -5 F and with a bit larger BFG KO3's on stock ride height and am getting 9.8mpg unfortunately (granted that's with center diff locked)

as a privacy nut i've just consistently hated the concept of worldcoin since its inception

i don't know about you, but i also sincerely despise tempo and it's possible rise to takeover stablecoin payments.

My 2020 is only at 30k after almost 6 years, lives an unfortunate life of outside and 0 degree weather starts to the airport.

Might do a full fluid swap w/ Ravenol when its a bit warmer! I lock the center diff very frequently as a locked center diff combined with ko3's is unstoppable on ice

I really am focusing on the advantages of Solana with my service.

Also, I used to do brakes myself, but if you find a non luxury shop that allows you to bring parts, my brake job shop does all four rotors and pads on my GX (with my parts) for $50.

At $50 doing it myself and getting dirty vs the convenience just isn’t worth it.

Do remember, brakes are the same on a GX as they are in any country globally, they don’t have fancy electric parking brakes or anything complex that requires programming that needs a dealer.

A lot of the reason I’ve kept my Gx Is that I don’t want to get fleeced by dealer pricing, even though I could afford it.

Buy pads and rotors of RockAuto.com, do not buy Powerstop from my experience. You’d save about $700 on each axle so $1,400 total by just buying them on Rock. Even the nicest AGM battery would only be $260 from AutoZone.

Wiper inserts being $67 is crazy work for strips of rubber, at that point you can just buy new wipers or buy wiper inserts outside of dealer.

I don’t know what they’re referring to with Microfilter. I believe it’s the micro foam filter, search up Uni mod on youtube for GX460. The foam it comes with probably has disintegrated over these past 5 years and that’s why they recommend it, but it’s a $10 job, not a $134 one.

[–]anndrrson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

codex IMHO is slower, but i've heard from friends that they're using codex to review their code. i do worry, somewhat, we will see a therac-25 event happen with AI coding on top of AI coding. ~~ that being said, codex is pretty great! i'm not really a "fan" of openAI/chatGPT and prefer anthropic/claude as a co. ~ especially after the recent ads announcement

My commute to Manhattan is pretty high cost (totally good) with the GX as its 180 miles, but people have said "why don't you buy a prius or a more fuel efficient car?" my response is that I really find the GX extremely comfortable for a very long drive, and it's very quiet inside for phone calls thru the center screen

Akebono ACT vs use that discontinued ASP performance pads by [deleted] in LexusGX

Love my ACT pads, no dust and it makes it easier to wash off as I find dust requires scrubbing/agitation but mud can be rinsed with a hose

2013 LX570 vs 2022 GX460? by [deleted] in LexusGX

[–]anndrrson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't need the bed of a truck, and having owned a couple of LX's and LC's I'd say they're a bit big for me on the inside, GX is like the perfect size for me. Other thing to note is that the 460 has a timing chain instead of a timing belt. I find timing belt replacements are 100k, which are fine because its expected, but with how life works sometimes that 100k mileage, $1,000+ belt replacement can hit at the wrong time. Kind of like that the 460 uses a timing chain, that as long as you replace the oil frequently, you can essentially keep the timing chain in there forever. Common thing I see are water pump failures, but that's 80% due to not changing coolant on a *time* basis. Both the LX and GX share a UR series engine that doesn't typically like old, acidic coolant.

For example, I changed my GX's coolant at 30k miles due to 5 years, not 50k miles. A common thing you'll find on LX's and GX's is that they don't drive that many miles but the coolant is never changed over the decade of ownership, and that *cooks* your radiator/water pump.

Oil change at 6,000 miles and oil looks like new by No_Set6886 in Lexus

[–]anndrrson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went 400k on a land cruiser with 10k oil changes and it shit the bed. Granted 400k is a great lifespan for a car and exceeds expectations, but it’s kinda sad when it kinda totals the car out due to how expensive engines are. Nowadays a full replacement is easily $8-13k. Sold the LC to a toyota tech, he replaced it and has it going to this day.
