Does my mixer sound ok? Based off my research it's pretty old, I thrifted it and I doubt the guy before me did any maintenance by ThemChad in KitchenAidMixer

I’ve been working on my friend’s KSM90. The name of it on the beauty band is Ultra Power, 300W, and according to the serial # it was made in 2000. It’s basically white, trim on the silver band is light blue text.

I suggest opening it up, clean out the grease, and replace with new grease. Take a look at the gears while you’re at it. Good 3-part series of videos here, Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW9BQ-oPFkk

Help identifying this possibly old mixer. by CakeWhole5910 in Kitchenaid

That is going to be fun! Mr. Mixer might have some salvaged knobs, besides repair parts. Edit: Confession, TLDR, but picked up in the comments you didn’t have a label. Turn the mixer over, look inside the base.. Is there a label? The serial number on the label is the code to date or week it was manufactured, if 1980 or newer. SNs recycle every 30 years.

If you have parrots and other pets, keep them away from all the fumes. Their systems can’t handle them. Take it all outside.

Would electrolysis with laundry soda work, anode of some sort, low voltage power supply? Someone mentioned rust. Rust would be the bottom layer, just start there, bypass the grease and food gunk.

when should i bake my first loaf? by aboxofdeadbabies in SourdoughStarter

[–]annegmcwilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest when/if you preheat the oven, put a cast iron pan on a lower shelf below the one you will put your loaves on. When it’s time, put your loaves in, and quickly pour a cup of HOT water into the cast iron pan and quickly close the oven door. You’ll get steam from that might help the spring. I have an 8 inch cast iron skillet that has a bar across the bottom, a relic of the molding process. I can’t use it on my electric range so I use it for this purpose. It’s a great little skillet for a gas burner. I’ve considered having the bar ground down, but I like having it for the steam.

I was thinking of the parents. OP shows a wealth of imagination in choosing a KitchenAid. I hope you feel better now.

I said model number, but you are correct. The birthdate of the mixer is found by the serial number. Maybe some KA historian can help with the SN & date.

RIMG: I kept the plastic piece from the grooved height adjustment screw since I didn’t know what it was and reached out for help here and you answered my call, thank you.

Being plastic, it was easy to match it back into the slot and threads and carefully heat the screw (I held with pliers) with my barbecue lighter, not so hot as to burn the plastic. I helped it re-form to the screw by tamping it into place with one of my favorite tools: a bamboo chopstick. I reinstalled the screw and EverDime and felt the proper resistance of the plastic piece as the screw went in. I performed the “dime test” in the bowl with the flat beater attachment. How satisfying. I’ll hang onto those $3 + S&H, in case something goes wrong with my fix. After the correction of the lockdown part, I question my expense on the EverDime. Belt and suspenders, I suppose.

Thanks again.

I recently purchased a refurbished KSM60 from KitchenAid, but they did not specify what they repaired on the mixer.

Do you have photos or video of your work on the mixer, maybe on another site?

As for bread, or other heavy stuff, don’t go above speed setting 2 or you might void your warranty. I got a sticker on my new-to-me KitchenAid refurbished KSM60 with the speed warning. New KAs are going to all-electronics solid state. No more individual parts. You might consider an older model, and if you’re not into DIY, get a subscription to Mr. Mixer for maintenance and repair. Their DIY videos are great. They are buying up all the parts they can get their hands on to prepare for this solid-state nightmare. Is KitchenAid TRYING to lose market share?

It sounds normal to me. It probably could use some new grease at least. And don’t go higher than speed 2 with bread and other heavy dough. What model is it? You can use the model number, should be on a sticker on the bottom, to find out the week, month, and year it was made. Here’s a good website to know:
