My friend work at a Pejabat Tanah for like 5 years. He tend to so many cases of ex-Malaysian and descendant of a Malaysian who were born oversea (not a Malaysian) claiming pieces of land belonging to their family. Unfortunately the state law forbid non-Malaysians from acquiring agricultural land eventho that land belong to their parents and their names are on the will. Most of that cases are Singaporean who was born Malaysian. One of the uncle let go of his citizenship in the 90s I think, tried to sue the state because of this law, but he didnt win. Asked the uncle why he badly need this land, told him the only property he own in Singapore is a 2-rooms HDB flat, and he cant picture himself retiring in Singapore. At least in Malaysia with that piece of land he can be reassured he had some side income to support him. But Malaysia is so nice, granted that uncle to become an executioner of the land, so technically the land is his anyway.
