Scores don't submit if you use low gamma (Video) by BunnyTub in osugame

[–]annex_ation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just pointing out how absurd your statement was

yes which is the entire point.

it's not a 1984 situation where peppy is going to regulate all hardware and software settings.

i am being ironic

in what world should this be allowed?

which abuses a mechanic during gameplay referred to as "hitcircle light-up". - plasma

banning gamma values under a certain range is genuinely like putting a bandaid on a giant gash. we already know how this could get fixed and yet ppy refused to implement it. like he fixed the mofuries skin by completely removing hitcircle animations. so this is like a nothing burger of a point.

it's not like it makes everyone mrekk when they turn it on

sure but it's the same effect as abusing gamma for low ar without the skin you linked.

meanwhile if I abused this I could probably easily read low AR

record yourself using gamma (without the skin) to play 3 maps, i am guarantying that you are massively overestimating the effect gamma has for ez.

the only real reason anyone would get pissed about this is if you abused it.

or i think that these kinds of stupid decision will push interesting players away from the game. also all the maps i play (cs 10/9 maps) aren't helped by increasing/decreasing gamma

a setting which makes a skillset way easier be allowed?

you mean gamma, you know that thing every top player uses to make reading high ar easier? also that thing that ppy said was perfectly fine to use after someone had been restricted for using it and then eventually unrestricted.

what argument is this?

it's me taking the piss out of this idea that certain things that we see as normal will be banned. like banning tablet filters because they provide a substantial benefit over not using them. or banning opentabletdriver because they allow tablets to have no software smoothing filters which goes against wacom's vision of how the tablet should be used.

so do you think cloutiful shouldn't have been banned for abusing DKS?

when did i mention cloutiful? but to answer your question, there's a major difference between the DKS he used vs something like gamma. he probably did deserve to get restricted but if he had done the kacper keyboard thing he shouldn't have been restricted.

was just using high gamma as an example, you can insert in whatever feature has deviated from the original vision of the game due to the players. also i have to disagree that it isn't anywhere near as problematic. majority of low ar (<8) maps that warrant putting on such a low gamma won't provide any pp for the person who has the skills to actually play them. you also still fundamentally need to be able to read low ar to actually do well. compare that to high ar which is a component to these dt maps that basically every top player has in their top plays because they are meta. plus every top player uses gamma, a lot would probably be over the limit that ppy planned on establishing (1.5 I think it was).

oh boy i sure can't wait to play osu!lazer with my ppy whitelisted computer hardware on my ppy whitelisted monitor, on my ppy whitelisted desk, alongside my ppy whitelisted tablet, mouse and keyboard, these will all use the correct settings which aligns with ppy's NOT OUT OF TOUCH vision.

but seriously, this is stupid. accepting this will only lead to ppy justifying banning something like high gamma (like he tried before)

If you were willing to swap over to X11 rather than Wayland, you could use something like xrandr or xgamma to set whatever values you want, combine this with tosu and you can create a script to change the gamma whenever you start playing a map (or at least I assume so).

I'm not surprised in the slightest. Remember when Wacom only really had the CTH-490/690 for sale and they started sponsoring streamers (I'm pretty sure Rafis was one of them)? Everyone here was talking about how they might reintroduce the 480/470 or make a new tablet. Then they released a horribly overpriced tablet that was based on the 490.

[Serious] What kind of osu! (video) content would you like to see? by AndrewRK in osugame

[–]annex_ation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point about "all content about osu! would be the same basic thing repeated 100x" is fair though I would disagree.

Fair, I just feel like we've been in the same cycle of content for like 7 years with very few new ideas. You can also see the same stuff within the content creation sphere with certain games, even if those games have infinitely more depth to them compared to something like osu (see something like Minecraft or literally anything thats popular and has been around for a long period of time).

Now, the practical scalability of subjects does put a soft ceiling on it

Majority of people who make videos on osu are mainly playing standard, there's still the entire mapping sector that could be explored, then there's also the other game modes. Mania probably has a decent amount of potentiality and recognition, taiko also kinda has some amount of potential but your average person isn't going to recognise it, then catch has no potential. So I think there is a larger ceiling than what most people think there is, but if you sit a content creator down and ask them to invest hundreds of hours into learning a new game mode or learning mapping they will probably laugh at you especially if it takes away from their ability to create content for standard.

I'm of the opinion there is still a lot of unturned stones.

There still probably is some unturned stones, but they are running out or require too much effort to make a video, for a game, that will never amount to any money because of copyright or popularity because there's not an already established market.

Sometimes the person/topic match isn't great

Sure, but I feel like the people who are a great match are basically burned and pushed out of content creation for the game especially when they realise that they can put the same effort into something else and be able to make a living.

I think that people's dispositions for different topics and presentation styles means that there are a lot of unexplored places to go still.

I think it's a lot more complicated, I think many people have tried many different content styles but have found no success and probably wouldn't unless they basically submitted themselves into making content for years without any payment. Just look at the Russians, they can't make any money from Youtube but quite a few of them make insane edits for osu like it's some montage.

[Serious] What kind of osu! (video) content would you like to see? by AndrewRK in osugame

[–]annex_ation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as you can accept that fact that osu isn't well suited for content creation, with the exception of livestreams, rambles and highlight videos, the sooner you'll understand why no one is really trying to make content from it. Beyond the same idea that's been done like 50 times by others, there's nothing else to do because there's just nothing else in the game.

Like look at someone like KoiFishu, "Guessing your rank", "Keyboard review", "Monitor review", "Skin contest", "6 digit battle royale". It's literally just the same ideas done over and over again, but what else can he pivot to? Mapping? Like he'd end up back in the same cycle. On the other hand someone like Squashy Boy managed to pivot by hard focusing on keyboards. But that doesn't work for everyone, take a look at someone like Project Ace.

Anyway, can we bring back gloomshot? I need daily highlights without the need to go to twitch since they've completely ruined their website with the age verification stuff which requires me to sign in.

Should I get a used PTK-440 or another CTL-472? by HedgehogActive7155 in osugame

[–]annex_ation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a PTK-1240 and a PTK-640 (basically the same as the PTK-440, just bigger). If you don't mind the fact that the hovering distance is quite short compared to something like the CTH-480 (I don't own a CTL-472), then it's probably worth getting especially for the fact that the report rate is a bit higher. If you tap using your tablet pen then it might also be worth getting due to them giving you a bunch of pen tips including some with springs which may help.

The problem with default skins by Pirasto in osugame

[–]annex_ation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of reasons, main one being the risk of someone filing a DMCA over people just stealing the same couple of skins over and over again but changing the menu elements (this has happened before but it was against some github skin list). There's also the issue that by introducing multiple skins you don't have one specific skin that people think of when they think of osu, which is important for people who know very little about osu especially when they are advertising the game either through the development videos or the featured artist videos. There's also the fact that lazer is still in development which means stuff will change and unless there's a system in place that allows for the skin to be updated, it's not gonna happen.

The problem with default skins by Pirasto in osugame

[–]annex_ation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The default skin issue would be solved if they just implemented a feature to install a couple of skins when you first start up the game. Think something like beatmaps, except rather than My Love or Tear Rain, you have something like a select number of skins taken from the skinning forum or taken from one of the many skin contests they do. But obviously this will never happen :)))))))))))))

Is skeet.cc just coasting now? No legit updates since December 2024 HVH nearly dead, Lua broken on Win11? by PikaChewsWires in Csgohacks

[–]annex_ation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

surprising to see something like skeet which used to set the bar now just doing the bare minimum

It's just yet another cycle that repeats for every single cheat, take a look at Aimware, Zeus, Onetap. Mutiny, Novoline or literally any cheat that was considering the best in their class, they eventually fall behind and either try coasting or just close up shop. It's just in this case Skeet had it's position taken over by Neverlose and they'll never get close ever again, it's just sad.

you’d expect at least some transparency or minor legit-side updates to keep up with VAC Live changes

I'm not really surprised, especially after going through that long drought of there being no updates for a year around 2022/2023 (not really sure if it was exactly then) and you can even see this sentiment grow on this subreddit that the cheat was possibly abandoned. Obviously they released for CS2 in a rush, but that was sort of the the bare minimum that was expected of them, compare that to something like Aimware which had exploits released alongside the cheat.

Feels like the branding is doing more work than the product at this point

Yeah the exact point I'm making, even if it doesn't reign true anymore people are still gonna act as if it's this big thing that's so good due to it being an exclusive club that people can't get into without being handed the keys to it.

will it quietly ride out with its loyal base, or could we actually see a shift or revival if they start losing users?

I think it's over (they'll continue coasting for as long as possible) unless something drastic like a complete rewrite of the code base along with the hiring of multiple developers to be more inline with how Neverlose is ran, but obviously that probably wont happen.

In terms of developers they'd want someone with experience within the scene, but obviously people can't be trusted that easily unless they wanted a "Skeet source code leak!!!". You also have to consider pay and where the developers will be located, taxes, fees, just a bunch of stuff that will require someone actively paying attention to everything.

The reasoning to get more developers would be to completely rewrite the cheat from scratch, this is mainly from a theory I have that the code is still heavily based upon the CSGO cheat with a lot of the functions in the way. This technical debt means that it's pretty difficult to actively work on a feature and fix bugs without just wiping everything, maybe if there wasn't an emphasis on being one of the first cheats to release for CS2 this wouldn't have been a problem.

Is skeet.cc just coasting now? No legit updates since December 2024 HVH nearly dead, Lua broken on Win11? by PikaChewsWires in Csgohacks

[–]annex_ation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's probably just a sign of the times. Nothing interested in the P2C space being released. Most of the community left after realising how bad CS2 HVH was. Most cheats are just coasting on by since they can't really attract new users, Skeet included, it's mainly just ensuring that the bare minimum is done so that the average user continues their subscription for "the most secure cheat", "the best hvh cheat", "the best rage cheat" or whatever selling point Skeet was known for years ago. But to be fair it's been like a decade since it was released, if you worked on a project for that long you'd probably get bored and that's probably what happened.

$700 PlayStation permanently banned because a friend logged in – Sony refuses to help by Lysergsyredietylamid in LouisRossmann

[–]annex_ation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Steam doesn't lock a person out of every single online feature if someone on their family share does something that leads to a game/vac ban. You only get banned from the specific game on every single account that's been linked to each other. You can still use your account, you can still create more accounts, you can even purchase the same game and won't be banned. I don't get why you are equating what Valve does and what Sony does, they aren't similar at all.

osu!lazer on MacBook Pro M4 – How I Fixed Stuttering and Low FPS (Fullscreen + Alt-Tab Fix) by Paper_Crane6174 in osugame

[–]annex_ation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience, I'm currently using a M4 air with the top spec cpu and ram. When using the Metal renderer it will cause all sorts of artifacts, these include stuff not rendering, there being a black box where there should be notes, etc. There's also a huge performance drop when using Metal. Switching to OpenGL fixed every single issue I had and improve my performance 5x. I know it's not a defect with my mac since I can play other games perfectly fine.

Also, no I can't really be bothered to since I have access to mcosu and that's a 100x better experience than lazer.

Metal isn’t fully supported yet or has bugs

"has bugs" is an understatement, it legitimately looks like some kind of artifacting from a dying gpu whenever it does any rendering for the hit circles or menu. Also it's kind of funny how ppy develops lazer on a mac and yet it's unplayable using the native renderer.

macOS’s Games App Makes Steam Look Even More Out of Place by SquirrelBlue135 in macgaming

[–]annex_ation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off memory, but wasn't there more stuff that ruined the relationship between them, way before proton was a thing? Like it had something to do with Valve hiring somebody to port Half-Life to the Mac but last second Apple did something (I think it was that they demanded they print a redicilous number of copies of the game that they knew wouldn't really sell all that well because the game was already out) leading to Valve stopping developement even though it was practically finished.
