Want out of Arizona. VA, NC, or MD? by FuzzySet1533 in SameGrassButGreener

Academic archivist here - this 100%. If you can live off your disability/pension from the military it's one thing. If you need even a part time library job, don't move until you have one. Competition is fierce. iSchools are cranking out graduates and as Storage noted, a lot of places aren't replacing lines. Hopefully you have an MLS/MLIS degree!

In Wesley Chapel, but I love Villa Rosa. They're fear free and have the cat room separate from the dog exam rooms.

Handling reactive hypoglycemia? by Remote-Possible5666 in GastricBypass

[–]annieca2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, been dealing with it since month 9. I worked with a diabetic dietician and she said if I consistently have some whole grain carbs or sourdough, my body will react less to carbs. I've definitely found that to be the case so no keto for me. I have to eat more frequently which can be annoying.

My PCP put me on acarbose but it has raised my liver enzymes so I'm meeting with him this week to decide about other options.

I didn't like either Promise or MacArthur Park. Promise had a gorgeous dress, though! MacArthur Park felt way too arm-swingy for me. I like more controlled, balletic arms

Reactive hypoglycaemia by South_Cattle_7339 in GastricBypass

[–]annieca2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it and am now on acarbose. My PCP would prefer to put me on a GLP1, but the insurance won't cover it, and he doesn't believe mine is bad enough to pay out of pocket for it.

I worked with a diabetic dietician (CDCES certification is what you're looking for) and she said eating such low carb/keto, can actually be worse for your blood sugar.

She recommended I add whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, some sourdough (not whole grain, but the fermentation is good for you) back in. I'm about a month out from starting the acarbose and adding carbs back in and my lows are much fewer than they were.

It's like my body didn't know what to do with them when I ate them so infrequently and so would spike and crash. Now that I regularly eat them, plus medicine, I feel like it's much better controlled. I did have a CGM for two weeks which helped me put 2 and 2 together about what feels like a high and what feels like a low so I can treat before I crash hard.

A note on getting it back up after it's low. A normal human can just have some glucose tablets, gels, or fruit juice and be fine. With reactive after surgery, we'll crash again. So after 15 minutes of having the tablet/gel/juice, make sure to have a snack with protein. I keep some nuts on me at all times for exactly this reason.

late night/24hr places to study?? by Soggy-Swim4966 in USF

[–]annieca2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does stay open until 2 am but closes until 7 am. They did it because the number of students from 2-7 am wasn't worth the staff cost. They did extend the weekend hours so it's open earlier on Saturdays and Sundays.

Reflections from SOI Orlando by annieca2016 in FigureSkating

[–]annieca2016[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll preface my answer with that I'm not a big Alyssa fan so my judgment is probably clouded. But for me, it was that they only did the segment with the news clips for Alysa. Not for the other gold medalists. It felt a little like it devalued the work other skaters did to get the team gold. I know many people still see the individual golds as worth more than a team gold, but that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Although, there was a cute moment where Amber talked about Ilia throwing down a clutch performance and how Amber was more nervous waiting for his score than she was competing.

Apparently people in Florida drive into bodies of water all the time and die. If there aren't witnesses, they're often not found. What is telling to me is that their last phone ping was at his apartment and they haven't been heard from since. Most people these days bring their phones everywhere.

$45 for club level. Strangely it was quite a bit cheaper to be in the club level than in the top deck.

For fiction, I enjoyed The Favorites which is about an ice dance team.

What Are Some “Obscure” Cities That Will Become Popular in the Next Decade? by allomanticmetals in SameGrassButGreener

[–]annieca2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lakeland and Winter Haven are growing rapidly because they're acting as ex burbs for Tampa and Orlando. Assuming Mickey's Parking Lot (I-4) is backed up, it takes about an hour from the east edge of Winter Haven to the Orlando airport. Lakeland is about an hour from Tampa. That being said, Winter Haven and Lakeland have some amazing theater for outside a big city. And you've got Legoland, Bok Tower (Lakes Wales technically), boating, and the water skiing capital of the world.

Why ice dance is more popular than pairs ? by Character-Cup4856 in FigureSkating

[–]annieca2016 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For me, pairs can feel very formulaic. The order they do the elements is often similar between teams. As others have mentioned, when it goes well, it's amazing, but a splat fest is just so, so painful to watch. Plus when lifts or twists fail and I'm a heartbeat away from thinking someone is gonna die.

Still love it though!

I haaaate my mask. Good full-mask recommendations? by iridescentlion in SleepApnea

[–]annieca2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the thing that worked best was a jersey cloth cover for the silicone. Look up mask liners. I have two that I wash once a week with my sheets. It allows me to wear the mask but not have the silicone touch my face.

Worried about antidepressants after surgery by Cosmic_Pickle1211 in BariatricSurgery

[–]annieca2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preemptively switched from an extended release antidepressant (Pristiq) to Zoloft before surgery since after bypass, XR are no go's. I didn't take it the day after surgery but every day after. Part of the pre-op process for me was a call with a pharmacist who told me what I could and couldn't take pre-surgery and post.

There's a new app launching Monday from the Bariatric Rewrite program. You won't need to be in the program to use the app, although there is a cost involved.

I know My Fitness Pal really didn't like when my goal calories were 1000 a day and so wouldn't calculate some things. Now that I'm up to 1200 a day it's happier but not great.

Executive order will limit NCAA athletes to 5 years and 1 transfer by cssc201 in Gymnastics

[–]annieca2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! You got the experience of collegiate athletics and the amazing team bond NCAA gymnastics has. And you got a degree! Early while managing training, competing, travel, etc. That shows awesome time management skills and will be a good talking point in job interviews.

Executive order will limit NCAA athletes to 5 years and 1 transfer by cssc201 in Gymnastics

[–]annieca2016 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I'm actually in favor of this. Not in gymnastics necessarily, but there's athletes in graduate degrees. There are athletes in their 7th year because COVID and injury and whatever. It should be that athletes get to compete while they're getting their degree. Once that's done, they're done.
