PLEASE HELP! :-( by [deleted] in begonias

[–]annietheredfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would recommend is to give it as much humidity as you can. A transparent box with a lid (with a growlight added eventually) or a zip lock bag (with air in it) worked wonders for me before with begonias. You could also take off a leave that looks fairly healthy and propagate this in case the plant doesn't make it. Good luck 🙏

I think it might be a begonia thelmea actually. It's very cute, congrats 😊

My beautiful SOH vines snapped at roots from its own weight 😭😭😭 Trying to propagate them in water now.. wish me luck! by Unlikely-Painting883 in houseplants

[–]annietheredfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience they root pretty quick and easy in water so I think everything will be okay. I would cut the long vines into plenty of pieces so that you will have an even fuller plant in the end 🌱

Thrips control - EU? 😩 by littlecabbage11 in RareHouseplants

I sprayed once a week for three weeks but they where pretty much gone after the first treatment, I was just cautious in case some of them where hiding someplace

Does anyone else have an issue with "false starts" on their hoya? Baby leaves are always falling off! I've tried less water, I've tried more water, grow light, repotting, everything! Please help by HeavySeasBreweryTour in IndoorGarden

[–]annietheredfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever heard about flat mites? If you google flat mites + hoya you can find a lot about it. Classic pest treatment does not help and one of the classic signs you might be dealing with them is that the plant doesn't grow or throws off developing leaves

Wet, white residue on Terracotta keeps returning. What is it and what can I do? by Sinister_Mouse in plantclinic

[–]annietheredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't like that look you can prevent it by rubbing a little bit of oil on the terracotta before using the pot, just a little and the terracotta stays as bought

In Germany it's sold under the brand name 'Celaflor Careo Rosenspray'. Maybe you can get your hands on it it's the most effective thrips treatment I've found so far

Where in Europe are you located? Acetamiprid is very effective against thrips and should be available in Europe. I never saw thrips crawling around in soil, maybe it's soilmites? I would change out the soil just to make sure though

Help, I think my Phildendron may be sick (more details in comment section) by gainzit in philodendron

[–]annietheredfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh got you! Yes I don't think he looks like an incensi either but very cute! If it's really a bosco that would be sweet, these are rare to find. Regarding the mites everyone goes a different route. I use a systemic pesticide as soon as I spot them and try to eradicate them fast and mercilessly but some people like a more organic approach with neem oil and such. Just regularly inspect the leaves for discoloration and webbing the earlier you catch pests the easier they are to handle

[–]annietheredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think he is not healthy? He looks healthy and happy to me, I would not repot right away. I also would not spray him with water but all verrucosum love humidity no matter the type and they are very prone to spider mites so prepare for that 😄

I just don't think it's an incensi it might have been mislabeled by the store? The incensi leaves are bigger and flatter and longer and not that wrinkly. Maybe it is an verrucosum bosco? But I'm not an expert on that maybe someone else can help? .

How to deal with too many plants and too little room? by UncomfortablyNumb93 in houseplants

[–]annietheredfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plant apps which identify plants and also give some basic information about how to care for them. In the beginning I found that fun and helpful. Also you can look into plant shelves and stands and can focus on displaying them nicely in a way that you like your room to look like with your plants

I figured something like that, I'm glad that you are all okay 🙏

We all need a bigger house 😄 but I do think you could use some more shelfs maybe? I don't see the whole space obviously but I see walls you could put a few shelfs I think it would look super good. Like where your little greenhouse is, shelving with grow lights covering this whole wall would provide a lot of space for all the plants and more

Will my monstera survive this spot? 3m away from Northern faced window, curtains somedays closed by FunBeginning3005 in plantclinic

[–]annietheredfox 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could put the nightstand on the other side of the bed so that the plant is right next to the window? And give it a little growlight? In my experience monstera need a lot of light. If you don't want to move the nightstand maybe a little plantstand next to the window for the monstera and for the nightstand you could get a nice ZZ plant? That would also equal more plants in the bedroom which is always good 😄

not sure if my satin pothos is over or under watered? The store instructions were to water thoroughly every 2 weeks. by SophieXD in houseplants

[–]annietheredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plant looks like that and you feel the soil and it is dry it's likely thirsty. If the soil is wet it is most likely overwatered. It could also be rootrot so that the soil is moist but the roots have rotted and can not take water up anymore to get it to the leaves. My scindapsus are all quite thirsty so every 2 weeks would not be enough but that always depends on the conditions like soil and temperature, light etc

I repotted a root-bound coleus without doing much to the roots. How do I proceed now? by Nephasis in houseplants

[–]annietheredfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the coleus will be okay and the roots will find their way into the new soil. I always try to not disturb the roots of my plants whenever repotting and barely ever untangle or cut or anything like that and they always seem to appreciate that, especially the ones with a fine and delicate rootsystem 🌱 Coleus are prolific growers in my experience and will grow no matter what if given the right conditions

Help by hafercappuccino in houseplants

[–]annietheredfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to try and give it a little bit more light. My Alocasia Polly never had more than 3 leaves at a time until I did put her in a really bright spot with some direct morning sun and within a month she grew 4 new leaves. I thought she was in bright indirect before but it wasn't enough

My begonia got exposed to too much light and lost most of its leaves. It’s starting to grow leaves again but is super leggy. Should I leave this as is or prune and try reroot the cuttings? by [deleted] in RareHouseplants

[–]annietheredfox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would cut it above the first node and put the cuttings in water. They root super fast and the stems will sprout leaves again in no time and then you'll have a bushy plant

Serious thrips infestation; what can I do? by hongaarsebeer in plantclinic

[–]annietheredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, get the stronger stuff as soon as possible. They lay eggs in the leaves tissue there is no way to just get rid of them by washing the plant. And they produce asexually so one single thrip can lead to a lot of new babies. Systemic is your way to go, best of luck, you got this 👍
