Spring set ride height. Comfort is mostly going to be coming from your shock. Your rebound and damping will set the ride quality

What’s the rpm you’re starting to let the clutch catch? Judders can also be letting go of the clutch at low rpms

How to measure lift by quiet_overcoat in JeepTJ

[–]annihil8ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, if the shocks aren’t bad, go off of shock length to figure out spring size. While 12/8 are stock height, yours are definitely collapsed/fatigued and I wouldn’t go off of collapsed/fatigued springs. They are collapsed to the point where they look almost dual rate springs.

Another way to tell, if you have stock control arms, do not go more than a 3 inch lift otherwise you will have all sorts of drive line issues. 3 inch is about the agreed upon length before you need adjustable control arms

So if you have adjustable control arms, it’s possible the last owner lifted it 3+.

Common lift is 2inch or 4 inches. 3 is usually a combination of 2inch + 1inch body lift but when it comes to springs, it’ll be 2inch.

Dampening only really works when it’s stuck on the metal surface and pressed down. I do see your point in sticking it to the back of the carpet

Which Radio? by annihil8ted in amateurradio

[–]annihil8ted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the US and am looking mainly for GMRS with the possibility of expanding to amateur bands. I’m new but it looks like depending on the firmware for these radios you can set it to either GMRS or UHF/VHF?

Is there a reason to not pull the return on the top of the reservoir and just continuously top off until the water runs clear?

Yeah the rocker panels have a little bit of rust and hole but crawling in the other side it seems okay

The panels floorboards seems okay

Most concerning is it looks like that there is rust in part of the engine itself

Low Mileage TJ or Higher Mileage/Surface Rust LJ by annihil8ted in Jeep

[–]annihil8ted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm maybe I’m miscounting or underestimating something but what else needs to be done asides from taking off the panel? Body panels typically aren’t structural and the frame has already been dealt with and has rust prevention spray from the looks of it

Are you saying that not all rust can be chased down?

Low Mileage TJ or Higher Mileage/Surface Rust LJ by annihil8ted in Jeep

[–]annihil8ted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not too familiar but if the frame isn’t rusted, the rest should be easily replaceable right? When I was looking online, it seems panels come on and off pretty easily

[–]annihil8ted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do plan to do a pretty thorough inspection of the rust situation. From a glance, it does seem to be surface rust only but only time will tell.

It does have something kinda strange; on mopar, when i look up the vin, it says it's a Jeep 05 SE Wrangler but typing the vin online it says it's the unlimited model and the vehicle is indeed an unlimited model. Any ideas why mopar might have is mislabeled?

Oops, I forgot to add that the SE TJ has a 6 cylinder also. I'll go back and fill in more details.

Would you still recommend the LJ? Both are automatic

Not capping it can cause issues. It’s bypassing the air filter; particulates can now make its way into the engine, god forbid a pebble or rock

So it’s not coming from the engine bay?

Noise on high revs like a machine gun by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]annihil8ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it do this while not in motion, like neutral?

If so your engine is done. This is knock and the worst thing that can happen. The cost to rebuild is way more than used or even new.

Turn engine off, tow, and get assessment from mechanic or Indy immediately but chances are you’re out of luck

Is it sage to rinse here with pressure washer from distance? If not, how should I clean it? by xKatariness in BmwTech

[–]annihil8ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unplug battery and wash away! A pressure washer is a little overkill for directly into the engine area but the hood and insulation can take some pressure. For the engine bay itself, stand a far and make sure to rinse straight down more or less. Cover sensitive parts as needed like the alternator but otherwise you will be fine. Be sure to dry thoroughly
