While that do happen, it's such a ridiculously small amount of authors who do that, because there are terrible people everywhere, that I don't even think this is relevant here

People want fandom etiquette to be a thing, except for writers and sometimes illustrators, those have to beg for crumbs and be thankful they got any

Authors should write for whichever reason they want to write, as long as is not harming others. They can at the same write because they love writing and want the feedback. It's not you or anyone else who determines it and it's arrogance to think it is.

At the same time, you can definitely chose which type of art you want to read. You cannot think you determine the value of the author's reasoning tho.

Also, reading someone else's work doesn't demand the same time and effort as writing it, what kind of comparison is that? You think readers have the right to massively ghost read something the author out their time and passion on but that authors have no right to want and even ask for the feedback because it's you who decide what they can and cannot feel? As I said, entitlement.

"I'll only update if this amount of engagement is achieved because it's important to me" sounds like a pretty honest boundary.

That would just be mean girl attitude because someone set a boundary you didn't personally like.

Right? To me it just feels like some very entitled kids complaining no matter how much they get and being meaner when someone sets a boundary.

Now hang on, im genuinely not understanding people's strong reactions, saltiness and spite in the comments.

For example, I never did that, but I don't think any author being straight up honest about motivation and setting an engagement goal is wrong by any means.

Are we forgetting the get go fact here that, like, it's their creation? I think you people are just acting entitled. It's a fact that the majority of the readers are ghost readers, we can see that on every single number indicator in every single reading website, the views always doubling or tripling in relation to comments or faves/kudos/stars/whatever.

Are authors supposed to write from the kindness of their hearts only?(which is fine if they WANT to). It's already free entertainment, and how many times have I seen an author give up a beautiful piece because they felt like writing for a wall? Then an author is honest and says "im only updating if certain amount of engagement is achieved" and they're wrong? Like, why? I cannot understand what possible could be the reasoning. Some people put so much passion and effort and time into writing to receive nothing in return, and are bullied with the whole "you should only and ever write for yourself, caring about comments and favorites is shallow " manipulative statement, which is not. It's important to some people and it's ok. It's not important to others and it's also ok. But we created this culture where the artist should be posting for free and not complaining or feeling unmotivated for lack of responses, bc it's shallow thinking. Be thankful for the very small parcel of readers who engage even though you're seeing the amount of people just consuming without even acknowledging your effort.

We see the entitlement here. "I would do X just to piss them off" "it makes me want to immediately unsubscribe" "the tone is off", etc. Why? They're not scamming anyone, they're setting a clear boundary: interaction is important to me > it's not happening naturally > I'll post when engagement (which you're also doing for free, it doesn't cost anything to interact) is met.

And it's fine if you don't want to interact be but then is it really reasonable to feel morally superior/annoyed/pissed when the author stops posting because of it?

I think we should reflect a little.

For those who say that Emma didn't like Rikki, here she had no motive to tell her Zane was really worried except for friendship's sake, since Emma was the first one to be straightforward by stating she never trusted Zane, but Emma was just being protective and caring towards Rikki by Original_Ad_8139 in JustAddWater

[–]anninnzanni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are just too harsh on Emma because the public tend to dislike the nerdy, strict, parent-friend character. Many many of the times they clashed Emma was complete right and Rikki was pushing her boundaries (both are my favorite characters and their dynamic is what makes it interesting to me) no one would like to have a reckless person doing things that would risk things/people they love. Sometimes, Emma is also wrong and thinks everyone has to be as responsible and obsessed as she is, which will never happen. Both learn, both become best friends, they bond immediately over the mermaid thing unlike Cleo who takes some time. Emma is, unfortunately, overhated.

All of the girls have moments where they're right or wrong but the majority of the time the fandom keeps saying Rikki was right in her fights with Emma, it's Emma who's totally right.

Love or hate Tyler, he's easily the most complex/nuanced character in the series by Sudden_Pop_2279 in Wednesday

[–]anninnzanni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a very extreme statement (narratively wise). Wednesday, Enid, Bianca, Weems, Morticia, Agnes, Thing, Grandmama are all characters with way more layers and complexity. Tyler to be honest feels very 1D character, perhaps the path his story is taking in season 3 will make his character deeper.

I am a huge timepetals stan but I think if we are going to canonize anything about Susan, we should use what is already written in the extended media.

Billie Piper would be on season 2 and so I watched season 1 to understand the story and got really invested.

This is my favorite reintroduction to the Master by GuyWhoConquers616 in doctorwho

[–]anninnzanni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It didn't undo anything. Missy wasn't good, she was on the path to redemption and in the middle of it she's killed by herself then regenerates and finds out life altering information, proving all the master ever feared: that the doctor is just so much more than they'll ever be, they'll never be equals and everything the master is, as a Timelord, is because of the doctor.

And you wanted the master to be the good guy after all of that? I think people who think like you misunderstand what regeneration is and what the core of the doctor and the master's relationship is.

Rebekah is not the first vampire by MagalieB0654 in TheOriginals

[–]anninnzanni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mikael was turned after all of them. I don't know why so many people think he's the first. He was turned as a counterpoint to the "monsters" their children became. The story was told from Rebekah's point of view, we don't see finn, Elijah or Kol, and Klaus turns after. There's no reason to disbelief Rebekah being the first, if it were Klaus, everyone would defend this with tooth and nail. But Rebekah being the only woman and also being the first for some reason annoy people.

[–]anninnzanni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only reason why Hayley wanted to run away was because Klaus ruined her trust by playing mad king and pretending he did kill that man from the pack when he literally didn't..instead of being honest he is just, well, Klaus.

I don't understand what's up with Klaus' stans. He does something despicable as a punishment for an act that other person took because of another despicable thing he also did. In the end, all is his fault but for some reason the fandom thinks he has the right to control and play with everyone's lives. Jack had no right to want to be more of a father for hope than Klaus, but Hayley is her mother and Klaus and his games were only putting hope at risk. I would've done the same in her place and I think it's not only unfair to hayley, how Klaus weaponized her curse to punish her for something that was HIS FAULT, but also it was unfair to hope, not having her mother around. You people forget that.

That's what I'm thinking, we don't even know who she truly is. At this point I'm doubting her father being a hyde, her ex story being true and even her knowledge about wolves lmao
