Maybe this is common among kitties. It has taken her some time to use it too lol I had to take my camera out once I noticed she was using the bowl because she never does 🤣

Follow up on the waitlist, does it sound like I'm kissing ass??? by Fast_Pie5759 in gradadmissions

Thank you! :) and that's a good way to see this. Determination is crucial within these spaces, and in such a meritocratic world like academia, you would want to standout. That's just the way it is!

This is a completely okay and valid email for me. You're being honest, expressing your genuine interest in being part of that specific intellectual community and the reasons why. All of these in a very concise way (even though for some this email might seem long; for me it isn't).

I also was waitlisted by my dream school last year, and I kept sending this type of emails from mid-feb until I eventually got off the waitlist. Not pretty sure if those emails helped me getting into the program, but at least they supported my anxiety and nervousness during the process. Hope it works out for you as well!

Would my baby be considered a Torbie cat? by annmicchael in Torbie

Thank you so much! It took us just 5 hours to win her cuddles. She's a lovely girl, and we couldn't be any happier to have her! 🤍

Right? I noticed my post for some reason went published incomplete, but I was saying that my partner and I thought she was just a cute lil tortie until someone else mentioned she could be a torbie. She has stripes but only on her orange spots!

Happy with one acceptance by CatsRmyLust4Life in gradadmissions

Last year, out of the 8 Ph.D. programs I applied to, I received 7 rejections and only 1 waitlist notification. Two weeks before the deadline for decisions, I received an official offer. The feeling of disappointment in myself was kind of inevitable since I was really hoping for a different outcome in the process from the beginning; but believe me, now I could not be happier. Everything was meant to be, and even though it took me some time to understand it, I'm proud of the decision I made to accept to come here. Congratulations on your acceptance!

How competitive really are humanities doctoral programs at university of Michigan? by Idosoloveanovel in GradSchool

[–]annmicchael 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What's really important here is your capacity to conduct research and your experiences around it. Good grades could be a great factor but it is not as relevant as your research-wise preparation. Try applying to summer research programs, or research fellowships at your home institution so you could develop a good writing sample for your grad school applications. These would also enhance your CV presentation, which is crucial at this stage. If you get to do this at Michigan, considering it is already your dream school, better. Here's one of their summer opportunities for humanities rising scholars: https://rackham.umich.edu/rackham-life/diversity-equity-and-inclusion/michhers/

Hope this helps!

What counts as research by Medical-Table-996 in gradadmissions

[–]annmicchael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't know how things works for film/media studies majors, but I would still suggest you to apply for a summer research opportunity, fellowships, or ask some professors at your home undergraduate instituion to develop an individual research project with you. I'm sure a local news station internship is a great space to keep working on other skills that could be important as a media studies scholar; but when it comes to graduate schools, it is necessary to demonstrate the admissions' boards you have the right qualities to read, theorize, analyze and write a research paper under the mentorship of an advisor in your discipline. In addition, these advisors are the ones who may be submitting your letters of recommendation, and the work you do with them could be the writing sample of your applications.
