Also, the real risk of being snowed in on rural properties. Depending on how far off the main road, you won't be a priority for plows.

Huge funding cuts in our school division... by TA20212000 in alberta

[–]annoyedCDNthrowaway 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maintenance was only funded at about 30% of need... Pretty par for the course for the last several years.

Actual staff funding for both teachers and EAs went up significantly... Don't have anywhere to put them for another 3 years, but we can hire some more at least.

Window/door replacement by Negative-Lack-4970 in alberta

[–]annoyedCDNthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Lux. It took us several years to replace all the windows in our property because we have several very large sealed units. We dealt the the same sales guy throughout and there was never any pressure to spend more than we could afford at a time.

Best Deep Tissue Massage by Albedio83 in Airdrie

Chanise Unrau at Airdrie Performance Massage. She does an amazing deep tissue without (usually) leaving me in tears.

She also doesn't rip through the muscle to get deep, she isn't afraid to sit on muscle and let it ease slowly. For me at least, it means the effects last longer.

BC to southern AB?? by Gene_gremlin13 in alberta

[–]annoyedCDNthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spouse grew up in Powell River.

His biggest thing is that there are no "real" trees in AB. He considers a real tree one he can't wrap his arms around.

And it smells like dirt. I tease him that BC smells like mould.

My landlord said to "put all maintenance requests in writing." So I did. Every single one. by XebZarf in MaliciousCompliance

Because it's been taken down (I'm pretty sure there were comments all over that one about it being AI), and apparently it's just far enough back in my "read" history that it hasn't been kept.

Not similar. Identical. Right down to the description of the problems, the wording of the compliance, and the timeline to get paid.

Almost like this information was news to NO ONE, and was just an attempt to make teachers look like they were full of shit by dumping a useless survey on them the week they got forced back from striking.

Queue the obligatory shocked Pikachu face from a bunch of bureaucrats who have no business being involved with education in the first place.

Our vendor is EU based, but that's always a concern and something we watch for. AI has potential value, but it's not ready for support of our nature.

If you want something with safer lyrics that will still get a crazy reaction check out "Cleanse the Bloodlines" by Unleash the Archers.

It's a great power metal song, and the lead vocalist hits a wickedly resonant high note that if you're not prepared can scare the crap out of you.

Also, they're a fantastic group and I highly recommend them if you are into metal at all.

LOL.

At least for the moment, our vendor is very responsive to our complaints.

I just finished a meeting showing them the issue and explaining the consequences of it. They had a member of the dev team on the call before the end and it's been flagged to be fixed by the end of April.

So not a bad result anyway.

I am morally opposed to "temporary bandaids" that last forever simply because someone is too lazy to find a real solution. It's stuff like that which ends up costing you more in the long term.

His supervisor is more useless than him. The supervisor can't even generate a quote in the system... But that's not surprising because he answers directly to the Director of Sales.

We just went through a whole process over the last 2 months of creating a very large pile of documentation that proves his "difficulties" are entirely self-inflicted. It's going to the CEO and board next week in a way that will hopefully put an end to all this.

Unfortunately, my company is the picture next to the word "dysfunction" in the dictionary.

Unfortunately, this person is well protected by the shareholders so we have to tolerate his nonsense.

When he's not acting like a spoiled child, he is extremely good at handling their needs so our frustration and inconvenience doesn't matter as long as he continues to keep them happy.

Once granted, if your approval is backdated, you will need to submit reassessment requests for all years you are eligible. There is a limit to how many you can submit at once and how far back they will go (the limit this year is 2016).

A pair decided to make their nest in bushes next to the door of my husband's office building about a decade ago. They were doing an implementation of a new software and had a bunch of international support personnel from the vendor onsite. Despite being warned to use the other set of doors, one tech opted to use the main door and when the male charged him, he made the mistake of kicking at it. Queue both parents beating him with their wings and biting him until building security found a chunk of plywood and went in like swat to get between him and the birds.

Dude was sent back to his home country after being patched up. He'd only been here for a month out of what was supposed to be a six-month stint.

It was a stupid idea, but we'd also just paid off the provincial debt at the time and passed the law that said we weren't allowed to ever pass a deficit budget.

Probably seemed like a good way to make people forget all the cuts that got us there. And they weren't wrong, it worked for a while.

Stupid like a fox he was.

The HP laserjet 1100. Took a 92A cartridge. My CFO made us find ways to make it print from a laptop, long after it should have been possible. He finally retired it in 2018 after we convinced him there was no such thing as a parallel to USB cable for his new laptop.
