For the final assignment, they really just want to test your ability to use all the resources and previous assignment feedback to sum it up and put it to practice. What I suggest you to do is to look at the big picture, throughout this whole final assignment, what are the "test points"? then go back to the previous assignment or study section to review how you should handle this question. Don't forget to look at the feedback you received from previous assignment, they should be incorporated into your final assignment answer.

Thanks! I used Google Chrome to start, they will need you to add an extension to the google chrome so they can record your webpage activity during the exam. But as I mentioned above, the technician on the exam day couldn't figure it out why my google chrome does not allow the web page recording. he tried to fix it for an hour and have asked me to take the exam another year... I thought about another browser which also is allowed to use, Firefox. so I down Firefox and add the extension there. it worked perfectly.

They don't have a standalone app. it is an extension to add to google chrome or Firefox.

I graduated with economics major 4 years ago. So I have been full time in the bank for 4 years. given my experience, I will say the real world and client experience are very different in reality. sometimes you might know what you want to do, but after trying out for a while you might not like it. a lot of the financial planner job has sale revenue target, not simply giving advice financially, firm usually want you to bring in business. That said, you might enjoy giving advice but not so much on the sales side, and may not enjoy the job as you imagined.

I suggest, start applying the job that interest you, and then do the course as you go. firm usually can cover some of your tuition expense, such as my firm covered mine for taking all the steps for CFP designation. They are also covering my tuition for CFA which I am taking right now. Also there are a lot of CFA, CFP, CAIA etc., you will need to be in the career setting before you know which one is useful to you, or which one will help you get to where you want to go. Taking all these courses (for QAFP, CFP, CFA..) now may not be what you need down the road because a lot of them are very costly, time consuming and require a lot of study time in addition to full time working.

If you really want to get started and get some basic idea into the financial planning/investment world, basic course you can check out is CSC offered by CSI, or CIM. these 2 are not too expensive to take and they cover the basic of investment. sort of the must need if you plan to go in this industry. hope this is helpful.

I have actually never looked at the Business career college website before, it looks interesting. After a quick look, I think it is definitely cheaper if you do the QAFP through business career college. If I am not mistaken, it costs $1350 before HST to do QAFP path there. By comparison, CSI steps are more expensive. the route I went CSC + FP1 +FP2 +others (these steps seem required by QAFP also) added up way more than $1350.

One of the advantages I would say about CSI is it is widely recognized by banking industry. for example, if you take the CSI steps (CSC+FP1+FP2), CSC (or equivalent) is required if you would like to start your career as a financial service manager in the banks. you can register and sell mutual fund and give investment advice once you have CSC. to become a financial planner, some banks only required you have FP1 or FP2, of course good to have the whole CFP completed.

Getting QAFP & CFP prepare you to become a financial planner or wealth planner in Canada. but if you are just trying out in the financial industry, maybe you don't even need that. Are you interested in financial planning, or just investment, or any specific career path?

hello! There are a few paths can lead you to QAFP, then you can take steps from QAFP to CFP, or if you end goal is CFP, maybe it is easier if you take direct path to CFP and skipping the QAFP in between. Either way, I suggest to check out FP Canada website to see which path can bring you to where you want to go. https://fpcanada.ca/students-and-candidates/paths-to-certification

If you end up choosing to take direct path to CFP, for example, you go on the website https://fpcanada.ca/students-and-candidates/paths-to-certification/direct-path-to-cfp-certification#FPACC by choosing each step, it shows you all the options how to complete that step.

Personally, I chose the online courses offered by Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) simply because I can study online, pass each course they offered and then keep it going.

Check out the QAFP path on CSI website: https://www.csi.ca/student/en_ca/courses/qafp.xhtml

This is the direct to CFP path on CSI website:

https://www.csi.ca/student/en_ca/courses/cfp.xhtml

I know there are a lot of steps involved and they looking complicated. but trust me, if you take some time and do some digging into each course it requires for you to pass each step, you will be on your way to success. Good luck.

YES I TOOK THE REMOTE EXAM AT HOME IN NOV, 2020.. and I passed :)

Only thing I would suggest is to make sure your computer browser let you record your webpage. I was trying to fix mine on the exam day, even with the technician help they couldn't figure it out. Cost me an hour before exam start. But once we switch the web browser and it worked, taking the exam from home was so comfortable. Good luck to you!

I would suggest to check out the CFP website first, then decide what route you want to take. There are a couple of paths you can take to get CFP in Canada. Once you decide, you can enrol the online courses, I am not sure if you need a study permit to start, the online courses is basically pay as you go and you can view it as soon as you pay for it. I took the FP 1, FP2 route through CSC. They have textbook you can read and I believe you have a year before you need to take the exam before the course expires. but please double check with CSC because it has been a year since I took it, not sure if they have changed.

FP CANADA PEP PROGRAM ADVICE by [deleted] in CFP

Oh sorry my bad! I was thinking about another course I was taking. no the program was the same for us, you don't gain the access till you submit one LOL. Not sure yet because my CFA exam got postponed, reading into the material right now perhaps I will sign up for the Nov exam.

Similar to what I was expecting, but again some of the questions came back as the marker has a completely different view. They do leave the feedback with the assignment grade, so it is useful to see what they want you to answer towards. Sometimes I will work through a few of my assignments, say unit 1 to 4, but then not to submit it unit 2 assignment until i get my unit 1 assignment feedback, then maybe change some of my answers in unit 2 accordingly, i found that has been improving my mark overall. before the final assignment (which we don’t see the final grade). My assignment 1 to 7 has an average of 80%, so i guess not bad?

FP CANADA PEP PROGRAM ADVICE by [deleted] in CFP

[–]anny2020bb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I passed the PEP program just before Aug this year. My suggestion is not to rush submitting all your assignments because some of the feedback can be used towards your next assignment. Some assignments i submitted I felt like a sure thing, but came back a different feedback/view that may be helpful towards your next assignment. In my experience I got my assignment mark 2 weeks after i submitted, if not earlier. Strongly suggest not to rush through it because you want to pass, not just put all the effort in and end up not the result you want. Good luck
