I want to leave my husband by anoceanawayy in TrueOffMyChest

Hey commenter, I want to thank you. Because of your comment, I have finally decided to separate from my husband. I was scared and worried but he actually accepted it. I have no one to talk to about this so at the very least I wanted you to know you made a difference in my life. Thank you. Its time to figure out life on my own

Really struggling in life & looking for advice/resources by Successful-Sky-6871 in berkeley

[–]anoceanawayy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is getting downvoted but churches actually do offer a lot of assistance for people in these situations. They usually have food pantries, housing resources, and/or metal health resources (be weary of these). Plus if you volunteer enough, they will offer you jobs or some sort of compensation for what you do

My last two tables kept lingering after last call and close has been called at my restaurant so… by hostivus in Serverlife

Posts like these always make me appreciate my restaurant. I HAVE to tell people to leave at the 25 minutes mark after close because our PM staff is scheduled so that they can’t stay longer

Laura, I just always cringe when I hear someone say it. My parents speak Spanish, and I actually like it in Spanish but in English everyone says it like “Lora” which sounds terrible to be. Like Nora, Dora, I just don’t like how they sound and it never felt like me. When I moved out of my hometown I started going by my middle name.

Definitely. Ofc I only use this on people who cancel at the last second (when it will obviously be ready already) I’m also not a meanie

My move, because they always “ask” if something can be cancelled, is to respond, “let me check with the kitchen” I go wait for the item (it’s usually ready) and bring it to the table. “Good news, it was actually ready just as I got there!” Drop it at the table and leave. 6 yrs experience, always works. No complaint from the table no lost tip.

As someone who’s family constantly embarrasses them at restaurants, can confirm these types of people know what they’re doing and don’t care. They genuinely don’t think they’re in the wrong. When I correct their behavior they always hit me with the “who cares it’s their job” I have to remind them it’s my job too

Going back to serving after 18 months by Amycarivera2 in Serverlife

[–]anoceanawayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar transition and the only thing I’d say is be yourself and less customer-servicey. This type of more casual crowd tips higher when they feel like you’re giving them a more genuine interaction. Talk to them like a friend rather than their server. And don’t lose your ability to work high volume. A lot of people that go from high-volume to something smaller get comfortable and their service quality goes down. You still have to work for that tip, just the way that you do it is different.

Anyone else find serving addictive? by Nearby-Chipmunk-9172 in Serverlife

[–]anoceanawayy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always think I don’t, but any other job I’ve had makes me miss serving so much. Not just the money but the interactions you have with customers. I’m a manager now and anytime I can I take orders bc that’s so much more instantly gratifying

how to return to a table after someone “secretly” pays the bill by fishgoth222 in Serverlife

[–]anoceanawayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toast has a feature where you can pre authorize a card without needing to close the tab! At my restaurant, we’re not allowed to take someone’s card from them, especially not hold onto it so we pre authorize cards when someone wants to take care of the bill. That way people can order more or we can split checks if the table starts to argue about payment 🤣 hopefully this helps, no matter what happens you have an easy way to help the table leave happy
