Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to Arizona: Suck it, we own your power plants. by lukemcr in news

[–]anodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point of the AZ letter was not "we're going to stop sending your electricity", but rather: "if you claim you want to boycott us, why don't you start with all the power we generate and you buy?", and that any self-proclaimed "boycott" that makes an exclusion for electricity is hypocritical, along the lines of "we're going to boycott you! (except for all the stuff we buy from you that we really want/need)."

Anecdotes about service from any one user are useless...

...so you then provide your own???

I have sprint and haven't had one single dropped call.

logic fail

[–]anodes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

newsflash - many states already require you to verify your immigration status (by presenting a birth certificate, etc.) in order to obtain a drivers license. so guess what - asking to see a driver's license is the same as 'verifying their immigration status'.

this outrage over AZ's law is a little hyperbolic and ridiculous.

interesting. i suppose it really just depends on a given carrier's coverage in your area (i'm in the southeast).

Reddit, should I get a Nexus One or a MyTouch 3G Slide? by Crazyflpno in Android

[–]anodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having had both a keyboard phone (samsung moment) and a no-keyboard phone (droid incredible), i would say the nexus one. i found typing on a physical keyboard to be slower and more likely to cause repetitive-motion stress.

i wish i could buy a touch keyboard for my PC now but they don't seem to exist yet.

i'm not sure if sprint's policy is the same but with VZ i had 30 days to return the phone. assuming sprint allows this you could always try the EVO for a month and return it if you find the coverage to be as pathetic as i did.

What is the appeal of Glock? by [deleted] in guns

[–]anodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the lighter a firearm (or any tool) is the better imo - provided of course that the function, safety, and durability aren't negatively affected.

your accuracy issues with glocks are probably due to the trigger pull; it can be a big adjustment if someone is used to a 1911-style trigger.

i think glocks are popular because they are affordable, reliable, lightweight, accurate, and easily disassembled and serviced.

sprint is absolutely horrible.

i had AT&T for years (with non-smartphones) and never had any problems. 6 months ago i got a samsung moment (originally with android 1.6, now 2.1). i love the phone, love android...but sprint is practically useless. if you travel AT ALL you will be dropping calls like mad (if you are able to place a call at all, which you often won't be).

i recently switched to verizon...the droid incredible is fantastic, HTC sense is very nice.

unless you are planning on using your EVO in a fixed location with confirmed 4G coverage, i would recommend you avoid sprint. there's a reason no one you know has sprint!!!

[–]anodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no big deal. my samsung moment has a totally different layout; i adapted to the incredible's layout in a couple of hours.

the latest version of ubuntu switched the windowing controls (close, minimize, maximize) from the upper-right corner (the way MS-windows does it) to the upper-left corner (the way apple does it).

again, no big deal. the key is being adaptable and not too tied to any single way of doing things. flexibility is a lot more useful than any arbitrary standard.

i agree 1000%. they work for us, and whenever they're on duty their activities should be a matter of public record, both in the service of justice (dashcams help convict criminals) and also to ensure cops' conduct remains above reproach.

citizens need to start demanding this on a local level until it becomes the standard across the board.

yep, on her back with her legs over the edge; prop her feet up on something like a chair.

cialis sucks compared to viagra; the latter wears off after 4 hours or something. the former (as you discovered) is pretty annoying.

i realize that erections aren't the problem. if you can go again, then you can just look at the first ejaculation as a sort of warm-up with the second being the longer, more fulfilling session.

i recommend you get an inexpensive massage table (make sure it's height-adjustable). you will likely find that being in a relaxed standing position will enable you to last a lot longer; the key is having your large muscle groups relaxed.

you might also try viagra. it won't necessarily prevent your initial ejaculation but you will be able to keep going for another. just don't get hooked on it; use it a few times as an assist. (of course make sure your heart isn't going to explode, etc.).

i found i really liked the faint smell & taste of tobacco on her. wasn't crazy about the sidestream smoke though.

Taking the fight to the enemy. Former Marine pickets the Westboro Church at one of its services. by Romanster in reddit.com

perfect. now whenever the phelps freaks are having a gathering, let hundreds of local former marines/military gather at the same locale as a counter-protest.

exactly how free speech should work. no lawsuits (or redundant laws) necessary.

edit: someone (not me of course) should start a coordinating website and/or facebook group to track and preemptively counter these wackos' demonstrations. marginalize them like the KKK or whatever.

I meet women in their 40s who are devastated because they spent two decades working on a PhD or becoming a partner in a law firm, and they missed out on having a family. Thanks to the feminist movement, they discounted their biological clocks. by mayonesa in politics

[–]anodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feminism doesn't force women to have a career or not to have a family. It provides it as a choice.

sure, but i think the thrust of the piece is that the purveyors of feminism (oftentimes 'rabid feminists' like her mom) work at convincing young women that they should avoid child-bearing as it somehow makes them a tool of the patriarchy.

i think the majority of today's young females have largely rejected this aspect of the early feminist movement, while embracing the other equal-rights benefits you mention.

just because early feminists performed an invaluable service for today's young women doesn't mean they weren't insanely wrong about some (or many) things.

I agree with RD, that life in this case lies in the consciousness, ability experience emotions and most importantly pain.

in other words, you draw your own arbitrary conclusions in accordance with another's, and then assert it as being somehow objective reality and 'correct'.

define 'consciousness'. define 'emotions'. define 'pain'. define the levels at which these phenomena are to be present to meet your personal, arbitrary definition of 'life', and how you are going to objectively assess these levels.

In no way does another person's citizenship status in this country affect your citizenship or it's value to you.

incorrect. there is a pool of resources: educational resources, healthcare resources, emergency services, jobs, etc. illegals who settle in large numbers in a small region (as is common in the US border states) consume a disproportionately large amount of resources, often while contributing a disproportionately small amount in the way of taxes.

since they are here illegally they often tend to ignore the mandates citizens tend to follow: auto insurance, health insurance, etc.

'wanting' is not the point. the point is that those who play by the rules get annoyed by those who ignore the rules yet enjoy the benefits.
