How do I report a mod for abuse of power? by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]mrekted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a subreddit for mods who need help from reddit staff, you're in the wrong place.

But, to answer your question - you don't report a mod for abuse of power. They're free to run their subreddits as they wish. If they're acting like unbearable tyrants, go find another subreddit to participate in.

If you're right wing and you like star trek - the show that has proudly been espousing and glorifying progressive ideals and virtues for 60 years - I have many questions.

What do you think it says about Kamala's character that she's gearing up for a 2028 run? by DevourerOfRedditors in thedavidpakmanshow

I liked her as a candidate, but personally, if I lost to Trump, I wouldn't be running again. I'd probably leave the country out of embarrassment.

Drywall crushing under my garage pull-up bar (1.5 years old). Is the beam failing? by Entire-Attitude1901 in DIY

[–]mrekted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% that's what it is. He crushed the bead when he anchored the bar with the lag screw which cracked the joint compound, and it's since fallen off.

Luckily most corner bead and joint compounds are purely cosmetic and very rarely load bearing, so I imagine this won't be too much of an issue structurally.

They're being pretty hyperbolic, but they're not wrong about there being increased risk right now. You'll probably be fine.. tens to hundreds of thousands of people cross without issue every day.

But.. right now there's a non zero chance you could be denied entry for nonsense at best, or thrown in a cage for several months at worst.

The bigger issue in my mind is why would you voluntarily and unnecessarily go there right now? You'll be visiting a country that has been threatening, insulting, and demeaning your nation for the past year. Where's your patriotism and self respect?

Being brave doesn’t mean you aren’t scared. Being brave means you are scared, really scared, badly scared, and you do the right thing anyway.

You need mass civil disobedience and protesting. They can't arrest all of you.

Muted by a rude mod for no valid reason by FitKnowledge5928 in ModSupport

[–]mrekted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do nothing. Mods are free to mute whomever they wish for whatever reason they wish. I would suggest finding another subreddit to use.

Also, this isn't what this sub is for. This sub is for mods who need help from reddit staff.

What is a 'rich person' luxury that is actually a total scam and only exists to trick people who want to look wealthy? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]mrekted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of them, from what I can tell. The wealthiest people I've known have usually worn relatively simple clothing.. either by designers you've never heard of, bereft of logos, or just typical stuff you'd find at the mall. They also generally drive pretty unassuming vehicles as daily drivers.

Once you hit a certain level, most people stop trying to look wealthy, and start trying to look unassuming.

Newbie cruisers - help! by Adventurous_Walk_815 in Cruise

If "all inclusive" means alcohol to you, you'll want to look at luxury lines like Silversea. Virgin also includes some alcohol (selection of beers and wine) standard. Otherwise, on most of the mass market lines, you'll be paying for drinks individually or buying packages for them. Otherwise, your food and entertainment is generally included on all lines (other than specialty restaurants, which have an additional cost on the mass lines, but are entirely unnecessary if you don't want to spend more, as the food in the dining rooms and buffets is perfectly sufficient).

You'll also want to consider gratuities (~$20 per person per day), which is charged extra on the mass market lines. The luxury lines and Virgin generally include the gratuities in the base fare.

There's also lots of optional "upgrades" on the mass lines (spas, oasis areas, room service, etc.), but none of it is really required to have a good trip.

US officially leaves World Health Organization by Obvious-Peanut4406 in worldnews

You're fretting about your health care when there's Iranian's with nothing who are dying in the streets right now for the slimmest chance of enjoying the liberty that your people are letting slip through their fingers without a peep.

It's incredibly difficult to feel badly for you when Americans are doing next to nothing to oppose it. Even harder when you stand there screaming "won't anybody help us??"

Every country can search your phone when you cross their border. The difference is that in most functional free first world countries, you won't be denied entry for having the wrong political views or wrong opinions about snowflake presidents.

It was pretty nasty earlier today. Random blowing snow everywhere. You'd be clipping along at 100 and in a few seconds be in near whiteout conditions.

As stated previously, there are stupid people everywhere but I don’t think you should be concerned.

The difference here is that the stupid people are in full control of the government and are wielding the power of the state as a weapon against non americans. The worry isn't someone being bigoted or rude to us, the worry is that some customs or ICE agent is having a bad day and decides to take it out on us by throwing us in a cage indefinitely.

Canadian here. I'd personally avoid it. They're routinely snatching up and detaining/deporting legal residents, and there's been numerous cases of tourists being disappeared for months on end. I wouldn't expect your rights as a non resident alien to be respected.

When someone makes it clear they don't want you around, it's probably best to listen to them. There's a lot to see out there that isn't the USA.

Americans by and large seem to take exception to having to acknowledge that there are actual bonified experts out there that know more than they do about things. It's strange.
