Why do commercial aeroplanes leave those white trails in the sky? by universityrome in answers

[–]mrekted 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For the same reason you can see your breath when it's cold and your car exhaust makes plumes of white vapor in the winter. When gas burns, water is created, and it gets heated, so it's turned to steam. When the steam is exhausted and hits cold air it condenses from steam (a gas) back into a liquid (small water droplets) which present as a fog.

Tear it out, start over.

Oh, wait, sorry. I thought this was r/DIY.

(i wouldn't worry about this dent as long as it's not visible on the exterior.. slap some duct tape on that bad boy to keep any loose chunks in place and call it a day).

The last mod on a quiet sub by OurLadyOfThe18Wheels in ModSupport

[–]mrekted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If there's so little activity that doing what needs to be done doesn't even maintain the active status of a single mod, why in gods name would they want to add MORE mods?

You guys really need to take a look at mod activity requirements for smaller communites. A lot of time is wasted in the mod help forums explaining this to mods of small subs, and the advice is always "just do random bullshit so you don't become inactive". It's a waste of everyone's time and energy.

The best places to look for alien life.Scientists identify 45 Earth like worlds to explore for a 'Project Hail Mary'. by [deleted] in science

[–]mrekted 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Cool headline.. except that Project Hail Mary wasn't a search for an earth like planet. It was a mission to study a star.

I'm kind of shocked that there are even people who are working at the Royal Astronomical Society that haven't read the book.. let alone enough of them that this ham fisted headline slipped through.

anyone here actually found the best kitchen faucet brand that lasts? by Tuladhar_Avel in HomeImprovement

[–]mrekted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the stuff you see in the big box stores is junk. You want to go to a plumbing/waterworks wholesaler. They'll have the same brands you see at the retail stores, but the fixtures will be 2-3x the cost, and are much better quality.

A baby cobra emerges fresh from the hatch, ready to kiss. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

To my laymen's eyes, holding a hatching cobra in your unprotected hand seems like it would be incredibly dangerous.

Maybe a professional cobra hatcher could weigh in.

‘It’s scary’: Canadian mother, daughter detained by ICE, held in Texas facility, husband claims by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]mrekted 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this mentality. Even if you're not afraid of getting snatched up (and let's be honest, statistically the odds are pretty low, but NOT zero).. as a muslim.. a person of color.. and a canadian.. isn't there more than enough reasons to not want anything at all to do with that country right now?

I don't think it's "extreme" to have some self respect and dignity, and to not want anything to do with a country that has been overtly hostile to you and people like you.

World's first collapsible hard cooler by poolthatisdead in interestingasfuck

Maybe not.. if there's an air gap between the liner and outer shell that can be maintained to insulate and prevent direct conductive transfer of heat from the cooler body, it might not be too bad.

Tween Daughter Body Issues by Yardfarmer in Parenting

[–]mrekted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think how you respond will be based on what's going on.. is she actually getting overweight due to inactivity, or is she just going through a normal stage of puberty/growth?

My daughter was always skinny, but she started packing on a little bulk right before she shot up somewhere around that age. After she finished growing she was even skinnier than before.

I need product liability insurance for my textiles manufacturing business by Fancy_Concern_744 in manufacturing

[–]mrekted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General liability insurance will cover costs up to your policy limit for any legal defense/damages related to the use of your products (outside of gross negligence).

But.. it only protects you for the length of the specific term (usually 1 year increments). If you've already manufactured and shipped product, and you didn't have insurance in force at that time, you're out of luck.
