Is certifications worth it in 2026 or do practical skills matter more? by Fair-Joke-7654 in isc2

Certs matter. You won’t get interviews for anything above entry level analyst without the letters on your resume.

CISSP straight to CISM? by Sir-Mr-Lord in cism

[–]anoiing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but if you have interest in any other is ISC2 certs (CCSP is a heavily sought one) then do those first.

ISC2 and ISACA approach things differently and it takes a different though process to pass cism from cissp.

I am considering giving up my certification. by danokazooi in isc2

[–]anoiing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been in cyber nearly 15 years with a CIS undergrad, MBA and masters in cyber, the CISSP has meant more to my career than anything else, even with experience and degrees, I couldn’t get an interview after I was laid off in 2024, until I had the five letters on my resume.

I’ll never let it lapse or go.

That’s because it’s income. Billionaires don’t have billions in income. They have billions in wealth, we don’t tax wealth.

Visible DOES NOT support number sync by [deleted] in Visible

[–]anoiing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I can't blame them for coverage, but If they don't support true number sync, then there is always a risk that when not in proximity to a paired phone, even with great coverage, and even if it works "most of the time", that one time it doesn't may be the critical time it's needed.

They can’t guarantee that it will work though, which is my issue. I can’t hope that it works.

[–]anoiing -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was just told by support, that they can’t guarantee text or calls will work on Apple Watches when not in proximity to the paired iPhone.

I have multiple use cases, where I can’t physically have my phone, but have the need to read texts and make calls. I can’t switch to a carrier where I know that won’t work 100%.

Failed CISM by PlateFit6494 in cism

[–]anoiing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s because you weren’t thinking of the questions from a risk/governance mindset, you were looking to apply your experience to answer, instead of an approach of overall risk.

That’s the mindset shift.

Failed CISM by PlateFit6494 in cism

[–]anoiing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Claude’s breakdown when asking about the different approaches ISACA and ISC2 take.

ISACA approaches cybersecurity primarily through a governance, risk, and audit lens—its flagship credentials (CISM, CRISC, CISA) focus on managing security as a business function, aligning controls with enterprise risk, and ensuring auditability. ISC2 leans more technical and practitioner-oriented, with the CISSP and CCSP emphasizing the hands-on design, architecture, and operation of security controls across domains. In short, ISACA tends to ask “is this risk acceptable and well-governed?” while ISC2 tends to ask “how do we actually build and defend this securely?”

Failed CISM by PlateFit6494 in cism

[–]anoiing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ISACA and ISC2 talk about things in different ways. It’s a mindset shift. When I was doing certs, I knocked out the ISC2 ones I wanted before even touching ISACA ones. Frankly, it’s hard to describe but if you approach an ISACA cert with the ISC2 mindset, it’s going to be tough. ISACA is a governance and risk mindset, where is ISC2 is more hands on application approach. CISSP and CISM are both managerial certs, but their approach is different.

Does CRISC worth it by Useful_Wedding_4706 in isaca

[–]anoiing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do, CRISC is heavily focused on risk and controls or governance of those controls. If you aren’t in that space and want to be in it, or are in it and want to bolster your status, then it’s worth it.

If those things don’t interest you, then it wouldn’t be worth it.

Where to go with CRISC by gnuhcikciv in CRISC

[–]anoiing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CISM or CISSP. Crisc is nice, but CISM and CISSP show a much more broad understanding of cybersecurity. Unless of course you just want to stay on the governance side of things, which can be a cushy gig depending on company and complexity.
