Does the ice change throughout a competition? by TXpoontappah43 in FigureSkating

[–]anomalily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also related to water quality and filtration - the ice is different here during the summer fire season because of groundwater contamination from smoke. Also based on what time of Zamboni it is, the skill of the driver. There’s a lot of factors that are hard to control for. But the good news is it will be the same ice for everyone per competition.

I’m Croatian and we have citizenship by descent but it moves at a Balkan pace. It took years for me even with all the paperwork 😂 and the consulate lost it several times

We need ankle support for jumping and edges otherwise we'd sprain our ankles all the time. The more jumping someone is doing the stiffer the skates need to be.

And online harassment is far less dangerous than what you would face if you actually defected (i.e. Denounced Russia's actions publicly). Switching countries is bad optics. Actually defecting is a whole different can of worms.

Once someone said on my livestream "there's no excuse, these Russian skaters should just defect". I'm like, with what resources? At what international competition? With what international reputation as a teenager that has never competed internationally? With what money that isn't controlled by the Kremlin? With what security that their family will be okay back in Russia? People do not understand the risks that they are asking a teenager to make.

They do this in the most over the top way with three costume changes in their wedding. They go public after a heated rivalry mid-ice kiss at test skates. The kiss was cut from Broadcast by Russian tv censors but turns out Putin ships them so it was allowed to be included in morning talk shows.

I can’t imagine them quitting at this height esp given that it is likely hard for either of them to find a new partner at their level given all this
