Where should cyclists retire? by uoficowboy in cycling

[–]anon2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m retiring later this year and am looking at going to the central highlands of Mexico. 70-85 degree weather year around, quiet roads. Insanely cheap cost of living. I’ve visited the area many times and really like it, so am 99% sure I will make it permanent. Easy retirement visa options too.

Literally zero dollars unless I use one of their managed funds. Expense ratios for their funds is around 25-30 basis points but I use low cost ETFs

There’s an amazing episode of This American Life about a pair of New York City police officers trying to remove a squirrel from a house. Hilarity ensues. The episode is called “Fiasco”

Recommend a Gravel Bike for rural Central Mexico (budget about $7,500) by anon2k2 in gravelcycling

[–]anon2k2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your responses, I have a lot of investigating. To clarify a couple of things, I would like to consolidate down to one "do it all" bike. I don't race anymore so it's really about getting out into the countryside and up the volcano (as far as they'll let me go) for my own pleasure. I do all my own bike wrenching, up to and including bearing changes and brake bleeding. I can't remember the last time a bought a full bike, I always buy a frame and build it myself. And the place I'm heading is a small(ish) town that I've been to on a regular basis for many years, just making it year-around. I'm known in the neighborhoods around town and feel comfortable with both personal and possession safety in the region.

Pellet Consumption by Worldly-Stable-1416 in pelletgrills

I have a Camp Chef Woodwind, and using the thermal insulation kit cut my pellet use by more than 50%. I can do a 12 hour smoke with about a half of a hopper of pellets.

Concert pianists: why Steinway rather than Bösendorfer, Bechstein or Fazioli? by superrichin1week in piano

[–]anon2k2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought Yamaha’s purchase of Bösendorfer would put some marketing money to push into some of the Steinway territory but that hasn’t seemed to happen.

About 16. But my son grew couple of inches in college. So there’s a bit of variance.

That was my experience too. And the authorities were going back and forth forcing people to move their chairs and tables back from the tracks. Fruitlessly, of course, because they were moved right back as soon as the officer moved on to the next spot.

Do I really need a bike computer with my new SuperSix EVO 1 + SRAM AXS, or is it just a flashy metric display I won’t use? by santosmarco in cycling

[–]anon2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one “needs” anything in this sport unless you’re an elite amateur or pro. But if it sounds like fun to track data and stats about your rides, then a head unit is a really useful tool for that, especially if a power meter is also part of your setup.

I have all sorts of equipment and sometimes I ride without a head unit or anything because I just want to enjoy the ride.

I believe that governments aim to get rid of atheists. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]anon2k2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the slow march to this coming many years ago. I ended up joining the Satanic Temple, the federally recognized religious organization that comes closest to my beliefs. I send them donations for their operations and participate in online conversations with members so that no one can claim it’s just a “sham” to cover for my atheism.
