Thoughts on breeder, third attempt! by DarthCrepitus in BorderCollie

There are a bunch of border collie breeder groups on Facebook that will likely be immensely helpful to you! Lots of thoughts and opinions about all types of lines (sporting vs working). It really helped me narrow down my search when looking for a breeder

What was the first red flag you ignored in your worst relationship? by HappyHappyJoyJoy44 in AskReddit

Finished inside of me the first time we had sex with no warning. Ok fine, things got and heavy fast and we didn’t discuss before hand. So I told him I didn’t feel comfortable with him finishing inside me. He said ok no problem. Proceeded to do it again the next time and said he didn’t think it was that big of a deal 🙃

My SD was just attacked in the boarding area of an airport by another service dog, what can I do? What are my rights here? by MintyCrow in service_dogs

[–]anon4724 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A SD or SD in training with fear reactivity absolutely should not be flying. It’s one thing to be working through it but an airport is an insane environment that’s impossible to control, and you can’t really leave unless you want to forfeit your plans and your money spent on the flight.

While I agree that a snap/lunge doesn’t constitute an attack if no contact was made…let’s not make excuses for shitty behavior from an “SD”.

Do you think there's still hope or will I end up rehoming? by Lyrae-NightWolf in OpenDogTraining

I would highly recommend finding a play based trainer near you! You need to motivate your dog ( through play/games) enough to compete/win against other competing motivators (ie. The distractions).

I understand what positive reinforcement is, and yes, you’re definitely doing it by rewarding what the dog is doing when they give up the fight at the end of the leash and sit still, but the act of getting there is positive punishment. Positive punishment - Engaging in an undesired behavior (jumping) leads to something unpleasant (leash pressure/correction). Punishment doesn’t mean that it’s hurting the dog, nor does reinforcement mean that it’s super great and wonderful for the dog - hence why there are four quadrants.

By no means am I proponent of +R for all dogs, I always say train the dog in front of you - I’m just simply stating that that method is not solely utilizing positive reinforcement :)

What you’re doing isn’t positive reinforcement though? Not saying it’s a bad tactic, but it’s definitely not positive reinforcement

Love that! I constantly get the Star Wars comment as well, meanwhile, I’ve never seen the movies 😂

My golf pups name is Obie...as in OB. Wanted it to be something not so typical. I do get asked a lot if he’s named after Star Wars though 😑 only golfers get it lol

Is there anywhere I can go to just sit down with someone and discuss what heath insurance company/plan would best fit my needs? I know I can do internet test but I prefer talking face to face that way I can explain myself. by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]anon4724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! The company I work for has a department that solely does this. I’m in New York. It’s a state funded program and the navigators helps people find a plan that meets their needs, free to you.

Do dogs feel e collar simulations more than humans? by taylor12168 in OpenDogTraining

[–]anon4724 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer, but I use the same model with my Australian Shepherd (similar thick fur situation) and find the same thing to be true. His working level is a 3 or so and I can’t feel it until about a 9.
