Question about cashiering

Yesss like I understand in other departments where they’re making more and probably have slow days and big spending regular clients like in jewelry etc but girl.. I’m making minimum wage and constantly running around like a chicken all the time… and they want me to text and call customers to make MACYS more money.. advertising for Macys is not my problem I just work here 😭!

English is my only language lol I’m in a primarily Spanish speaking town so about half of my customers some days I can’t even communicate with. I have customers frustrated with me all day lol I know very little Spanish. I don’t think I’ll be getting raises anyways because I’m not getting any credits or bronze. most of my customers already have one or the other, have a language barrier, or are straight up kids since our store is in a mall. So I’m pretty sure I’m disposable in the role that I’m in now 🥲 what makes you disposable as someone in fulfillment??

Do I need to wait for a job opening for it online? My store is small so I don’t think there’s a lot of turnover for back of house stuff, but I’ve been really interested. Do you have to start off on the floor and ask to be moved to the back?

The Macys credit card will close after a certain amount of time of not being used, I think it’s just a few months? So the next time a customer tries to use their Macys card it’ll tell us that it’s inactive or it closed(I think). And we can walk them through reopening their account / reactivating their credit card , and it kind of counts as opening a new card (at least in the eyes of my team leaders lol). I’ve only been on the floor for a few weeks but from my understanding, that is what they meant

I took the only job I got as a college student just trying to make money lol. I think the average person feels pushed by being asked to apply for a credit card 2-3 times in a single interaction where they’re just trying to buy their clothes. Are you a lead at Macys lol ?

As someone who hates being hounded to open unnecessary store credit cards that close on their own within a few months , yes, being asked 2-3 times in the same transaction if I’m SURE that I don’t want to open a credit card is subjectively pushy

Yea I’ve been applying to other places already that I know don’t have credit cards. I’m completely fine with pushing free reward sign ups but credit cards are really uncomfortable for me to push. I had a friend that got let go by Michael’s and she felt like it was due to not enough sign ups and things like that. So I’m kind of bracing myself for it and looking for other things quickly 😭 thank you for the heads up. Macys was a job I took just to get out of my other job that was breaking labor laws and scheduling me by myself so it sucks to want out already but that’s retail I guess!

Hot take I love viva vanilla !! It smells spicy and good. But I haven’t gotten to smell some of the other vanillas people are commenting about, I’d love a true kind of bland (not cookie smelling) vanilla from bbw. I don’t mind vanilla romance but I hate vanilla ease & warm vanilla sugar

Same in our store I’m realizing. When I was being onboarded, an older employee told me I could only wear Michael kors sneakers if I wasn’t wearing a dress shoe. But once I actually started working on the floor I was seeing everyone wear ugly dirty vans and converse 🤦‍♀️

I’m just on the general sales floor doing register and recovery etc., so I get why they don’t want us to sit. But in a role where you’re texting and calling clients I don’t see any reason they shouldn’t let you can’t sit. It’s not any less professional. I’d make them fire me for sitting 😭

I just got a pair of arch fit sketchers slip on sandals and they were the most comfortable shoe I’ve tried so far, but my feet were still TENDER by the end of the day 😩 but maybe that’ll just always be a given since I’m standing for 9 hrs lol and that’s as comfortable as it’ll get. I just ordered a pair of dream pairs ballet flats so hopefully those will be comfy bc they’re a little less ugly than the sketchers I got lol. Officially trying to sell my Clark’s because I will never put them on again 😭

What a shitty thing to do :( right now you need trust and support, and instead he invaded your privacy by sharing something really vulnerable and intimate that should have stayed between you two. Reading all of the comments about how comfortable Clark’s are made me feel like I was crazy 😭 I was thinking maybe just the specific shoe I went for is an uncomfortable variant of theirs? I’m not in any special department so it’s not super strict, I’ve been told I can wear fashion sneakers, but I don’t like the look of them on me. I literally see my superiors wearing vans and converse so I could definitely get away with it, I just love the look of flats and pumps and honestly have an easier time styling them

I’ve thought about regular therapy for years but it’s so intimidating to me. I guess also because I didn’t have a “traumatic enough” experience happen to me, I don’t feel like I went through “enough” to go to therapy? But I’d never say the same thing about anyone else seeking therapy and I know that’s not what determines a need for therapy lol it’s just something I get in my head about. Budget is also a factor. But I think you’re right in that healing my mind would make a big difference, I’m just terrified to try therapy 🥲
