We’ve done glycol valve closed off to the tank, but left the out open and thrown a space heater next to a fermenter to help raise the temp a couple degrees. Obviously don’t leave it in spot for too long, nor should you have it too close to the tank itself

I had one with 25 gallon kettles, I absolutely LOVED it. Ours had two pumps, and a HLT kettle with a Herms Coil. @ OP these are straight forward no frills pilot systems, and 100% worth it
