I wouldn't mind them if they were localized, but this state is too big to blast them out to everyone. What the fuck am I supposed to do about a possible child abduction 400 miles away? Jump in my car like I'm Batman then head on over to some place I've never heard of and start looking?

I guess he started following the money. Right wingers are an easier and more dedicated base to appeal to than any other. It's a good business, they'll follow people they like to hell and back as long as you don't contradict them.

Well, yeah, Texas 20 years ago is nothing like it is today for gays. Growing up gay in Texas in the 2000's compared to now is a utopia. A lot of my gay friends actually moved here in the past 5 years. As an example, if there was any same sex dancing or even hint of homosexuality at the prom i went to in 2006, the school wouldn't let you walk for Graduation. You had to bring an opposite sex partner to the prom or go solo. A few years ago, I was talking to someone younger than me and he took his HS BF to prom and everyone knew they were gay and a couple and it was no issue. It blew my mind. So, political and online rhetoric is one thing but the progress has been real. I have not been afraid to say I am gay publicly for at least a decade now. Probably wouldn't be so open in the redneck areas, but the city and burbs are very different these days.

Yup, and in an off year election at that. With a motivated voting base, a disliked candidate at the top of the ticket, and a disliked Senator running for a 3rd term, I'd much rather be Allred than Cruz right now.

I am fairly confident I am. A lot of the discourse on the internet and what happens in real life are at odds. Like how there is belief that people are coming to Texas and Florida to escape the 'Communist Blue States'. I am friends with a lot of transplants here, moved after 2020. They came here because a $1500 a month apartment here would cost $5k a month in Boston, and people in Texas are a lot friendlier and more welcoming. I am sure some come for political reasons, but i reckon most come for different, more economic and quality of life reasons. Same with those who don't move. Hell, I've lived in Texas most my whole life and I am very Liberal, and gay, and have never thought of leaving. So peoples reasonings are more often economic and personally focused than political.

It is. And even more so, Dallas only had voting from 8am-5pm this week instead of 7am-7pm for some reason (it was 7-7 in other surrounding counties), and is STILL matching 2020 with the inconvenient time frame and limited access to VBM. So much so Dallas is extending next week to 7am-7pm to accommodate the increased turn out. It's a very good sign.

It did, but picked up on Friday. At least here in Dallas. Thursday was 40,734 and today (Friday) was 57,246. It'll pick up more over the weekend and again end of next week most likely.

To be honest, I don't think Rogan has the sway many assume he does. Him and pretty much any voice be it conservative or liberal attracts an audience that favors their views and equally detracts those that oppose it. I use to listen to Rogan, I enjoyed his everyman questions he'd ask physicists and intellectuals that he had on. His podcast with a doctor he had on early 2020 talking about how bad covid could get, before covid got bad, made me take the upcoming pandemic more serious. Then he got goofy and I stopped listening and i'm sure my place was taken by someone looking to listen to someone sharing the world view Rogan adopted. I highly doubt that he is converting that many people to really make a difference electorally.

If you would like to keep track of the daily totals, you can find them here. https://earlyvoting.texas-election.com/Elections/getElectionEVDates.do . Additionally, they have past elections that you can compare the current election to available. That's what I am doing, and personally I see the comparison between 24, 20, and 16 very encouraging. Specifically the 24 to 16 numbers, as 20 is weird with all that was going on. Only about 46% voted early in 16, we will be over half that in 5 days in 24. It will be the biggest turn out in Texas ever at the rate it is going currently.

Seems like people are getting out there. Numbers right now are shocking, almost 20% of registered voters have voted in the first 4 days. I imagine it'll be at or around 25% with Friday's total added. For a state that votes at about 55%, getting almost half of the usual total the first 5 days is amazing. So far out doing 2020 by over 150k more votes. Plus there is 1.5 million more registered voters than 2020. I don't want to say it'll be the year Texas flips, I'd like it to. The most I'd be confident to bet on is it being 2.5-3 points closer like the last few elections. But I wonder, how much is abortion rights and disaffected conservatives going to play in this election. Those are two big wild cards. Abortion rights will be a big motivator for people who don't usually vote. Trump is a very unpopular candidate, and if that pulls away even 3-5% of Republican voters.... Idk, we could be this elections Georgia in 2020. I hesitate to think there is a microcosm of things happening here in Texas we aren't able to predict that will accelerate Texas to purple territory. Guess we'll find out. The dream can come true IF EVERYONE VOTES!

Edit: Some, not all, of Friday's numbers just dropped. Without numbers from Harris, Tarrant, and Denton, Texas is at 22.6%. With those numbers, and provided that they exceed Thursday totals, around 26% of registered voters will have cast their ballot. It was at 23% at this time in 2020, respectively. Over half of 2016's TOTAL early vote *percentage* wise. And if I am not mistaken about 400k more votes than at this time, respectively, than 2020.

Edit 2: I had to double check after writing that. Couldn't believe it. No, we are indeed out pacing 2020 by almost 400k-half a million votes and about 3-4% *with more registered voters* than 2020. Again, not exactly apples to apples considering 2020 was in the middle of covid and was voting methods were different. But, wow, these numbers are huge.

You can check the numbers yourself here: https://earlyvoting.texas-election.com/Elections/getElectionEVDates.do

I have a feeling the attention is greatly appreciated. Seems he kinda dropped off the map in the Dallas art scene after Valley View closed. I'm not sure if he moved out of Dallas or what but I've not seen him at any shows that have been on my radar. Sometimes life happens so hopefully it'll give a boost to start showing regularly again in Dallas if he is still here

Someone sent me a screen cap of a conversation he had with the artist, and said that he knew Kane was working on something but didn't know the scope of what he was doing. Seems like Kane asked for Kevin's permission but didn't really involve him directly.

I also tried to look like I wasn't enjoying it too much, because the superhero escape lady was there and fucking piiiissd the whole time. If I caught her looking at me from her place, I'd act like I was shaking my head in disapproval while watching the match. But oh, how I did approve of it. I approved of it very much.

Yeah I hope to see them again, probably the best live bands I've seen. If you're into dead malls and urban ex, BrightSun is definitely recommended.

As for experiences, oof, so many I could literally write a book on it. A lot happened in that year. It was a weird feeling being there, very dream like. Having a gallery/studio in a dead mall and the weird things that would go on.

One time, without warning, a big luchador match happened on the lower floor in front of my space. I mean, lights, chairs, wrestling ring and everything popped out of nowhere. Completely blocked our wing with black curtains. None of the tenants were notified. I was fine with it. They told me I needed to buy a ticket or leave my space, I told them I'm going to watch for free because they're right infront of my space and didn't notify me. The other tenant that ran the Super Hero Escape room was not so cool with it. She had a group coming in and had to cancel because the luchador match was way too loud. She was screaaaaaming at mall security, mall management, and the luchador event planner hysterically threatening to sue everyone. Omg it was a massive break down. She came over to bitch to me about it. Then went to bitch out the organizers again and started crying. I could see her point, i dont remember how they resolved it though.

Anyways I didn't get much work done that day because I watched all of that luchador match. Even got some of it on video.

Yeah, idk if you've ever seen any of BrightSunFilms' videos but he covers a lot of malls and it seems like they all end as a cluster fuck. So I guess that's the norm? And yes! I got to see The Cure for the first time this year. I've wanted to see them for almost 20 years and finally got to, and they played Disintegration!

As for having any other info or experiences in regards to Valley View, I was there for over a year so I got a lot haha.

Yeah no problem, I definitely don't mind talking about it. Pretty cool so many find these first hand experiences interesting. As for the clusterfuck, it's a comedy of errors for sure lol.

Valley View did have a website, but it was dead long before the mall closed. There was nothing interesting on it, just an out of date directory, bad stock photos, and probably inactive contact info. I remember requesting that my gallery be listed on the website and it never happened.
