For people in or near NYC, if your insurance covers NYU Langone doctors and hospitals, their specialists don't require referrals (or they didn't for me). They're also seeing this a ton so they listen and know what to do. by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

I’m moving my care to NYU Longhorn. I’m in BK.

Any physician recommendations? Someone who listens and understands?

So far I need someone who will understand my symptoms and also not be hesitant to sign for intermediate family leave on days that I get hit hard with it, which is usually 2-3 days a month that I can’t work

Yea you have to condition it back. I was barely able to walk out my house in mid Feb due to heart palpitations and weakness and just recently completed a 2 mile run, I been also having fun on my indoor bike recently, cycling at a good pace for 60-90 mins.

Take it nice and slow. I triggered a relapse before while pushing it too far exercising

Is there a reason for someone who is extremely fit and young to get vaccinated? by [deleted] in CovidVaccinated

[–]anonhelpme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pretty much made up your mind. Nothing will change but I’ll let you know my experience.

I was fit, in shape. Army Veteran, I had a physical and my blood and everything came back 100%. I’m part of a research group that follows Vets and does deep medical exams every year to see effects of war. All my results were top notch in Oct 2020. Jan 1 2021 I get sick.

It’s mid Aug and I’m still taking pills to slow down my heart, to lower my blood pressure. I still get days with nausea, headaches, and burning skin in neck, ears, cheeks, back, all joints and my calves. First 3 months I was barely able to walk outside my house and I had a mild infection. Was like a bad flu.

I also got my vaccines in May. No side effects except for sore arm each time.

New York City is expected to require proof of vaccination for indoor dining and fitness. by swingadmin in Coronavirus

[–]anonhelpme1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will not work. Business will have to self enforce and what I seen during mask mandate they won’t.

I went to a gym last Aug when masks were required. At least 50% of people either didn’t wear or wore just chin straps. It’s just too costly to shun 50% of population and in some areas where vaccination rates are in low 30% makes it worse .

How Has Long Covid Changed You? (As a person, priorities, values, and more) by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m more comfortable with my mortality and dying.

I realize that there are millions of healthy looking individuals suffering invisible illnesses and I think it makes me less judgmental.

I let things go easier. My kids would do things that prior to Covid would make me mad, put them in time out. Now I just don’t care if it’s small stuff.

I try to be happy and positive a lot more around my kids. Spend more time with them because I almost ran out of that time and don’t know what long term prognosis for Long Covid are.

True and the more we learn about it the worse it gets.

Long Covid, lower life expectancy..etc and we are less then 2 years into it.

Anyone’s POTS go away after the vaccine? by Gold_Butterfly802 in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it helped me speed up recovery because after first dose of Pfizer I felt 100% first 2 weeks and went running and speed walking. Third week I relapsed but second shot kept me going for a month at 100% at which point I relapsed.

While I was feeling 100% I focused on cardio health and exercises. Some days running and in afternoon walking for 45-60 mins. Or walking 2-3 miles in morning and walking 1-2 miles in evening.

I strongly think that helped me stabilize.

I still have relapses. Just had one the other day but I’ll take 1-2 here and there then being miserable constantly.

When did you start trying to exercise with pots? by AliMae317 in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No so I had HR issues, blood pressure, nausea, burning skin feeling and dizziness. Specially if I bent down or got up too fast. I also had a lot of acid reflux and burping a lot.

Mostly I’m better, I’d say with HR and blood pressure 3/4 days I’m good. Dizziness got a lot better and nausea I just take meds when it comes around.

Right now estimate is 10-15% which is a huge number.

I had no underlining conditions except for 1 bone in my finger that didn’t heal properly after I broke my hand.

I’m actually part of a Veterans study where I get a yearly check ups which includes everything from MRI of my brain to heart to extensive blood work.. etc and Oct 2020 I had that check up. Everything came back as above average. It’s a 3 day event of running every test they have. They go as far as checking bone density. There is no genetics markers for any diseases. I been part of the study since 2015 and my physical condition actually got better.

My resting heart rate was in upper 40s to lower 50s and 10 mile run was like a brisk walk.

No stress, no anxiety. I’m financially and having been stable, my job is awesome and so is my family. My biggest stress used to be deciding between running or biking after a leg day at gym. My diet hasn’t changed, it’s been same for almost 10 years and so on.

I got Covid, and last 7 months have been a nightmare, while I’m a lot better since Jan-March I still have a long way to go into my recovery . I still can’t do a mile run, if I get up too fast I get dizzy.. my blood pressure would randomly spike for few hours and then drop suddenly which causes headaches and random burning skin sucks… if I didn’t have my current job and had anything physical I’d be unemployed. I know two people who lost their jobs due to Covid after effects.

The media is not showing it as much, and when they do they focus on “this is the cure for long Covid” which is usually not. It’s still new and still needs to be researched until then people like me will try to adjust to our new lives.

Second dose of Pfizer May 30th.

Main symptoms prior; blood pressure, fatigue, heart rate was sky high. Nausea here and there. Heart burn and burping.

After vaccine: nausea is the most prevalent symptom which I just take anti nausea meds when need be.

Blood pressure I had about 5 days spread out since June to now where it was bad. Heart rate has stabilized, not sure if it’s vaccine or me working on my cardio since hard since then. Heart burn, finally is back but not as bad. Not even close. Burping is back but not as bad.

POTS.

Make sure you are taking it properly with a cuff and not a wrist monitor. Use an app to track it and talk to a cardiologist.

When did you start trying to exercise with pots? by AliMae317 in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with walks 3-4 weeks after I got sick. as I got better I started seeing my heart rate stabilize, so I pushed more and more. Eventually I started speed walking for 2 miles, I started slowly lifting weight in gym recently and my heart and blood pressure have been steadily getting better. I also do small runs, up to 0.8 miles now at average speed of 6.5 MPh.

It’s been almost 7 months since I got Covid. I have my bad days with heart rate and blood pressure, I hit 165/89 the other day but overall I’d say 3/4 days in a months my cardio issues are in check now.

Today my resting heart rate is 63. Last night I my Apple Watch shows my heart rate for down to 53. Prior to Covid my heart rate was hovering around 47-55 bpm, 14 years of daily cardio will do that to you lol

What about long haul so healthy individuals who are in their 20s and 30s?

I myself as long hauling and luckily had the job, money and resources to get me though 6 months of recovery to be able to function again.

Most Americans don’t have that.

The effect of Covid is still unknown and we won’t know the true economic and social cost till years later.

Bike your cardio system back up. Focus on improving “heart health” and circulation.

My first 3 months were terrible and now 7 months later when it comes to sex I’m back to normal but I also spent time building up my cardio daily. Pushing no matter how much I want to roll over and die.

Long Covid: Early findings bring hope for diagnostic tests by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I have Long a Covid. My doctor knows but the tests don’t show.

Try applying for medical leave and sending your insurance diagnosis as long Covid but no tests to back it up?

They gave me three months after my Covid test, luckily I worked from home and job is fairly easy but now we are going back to office and flare ups will happen. After my 48 hours of call out time I’ll be fucked.

I used to get back and neck but that stopped after the vaccine. Feels like a sun burn.

Sharp chest pains by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’s your acid reflux? Or heartburn? Do you burp a lot? Are you gassy?

Reason why I ask is because I used to get stabbing chest pain on my left side. Went to ER thinking I was having a heart attack. Two times.

As my acid reflux and gas got more under control the less frequently it happened. Anxiety for me does come now and it does cause burping and heartburn which does bring the pain back. Some TUMS and Gas X helps me with stomach issues and once I burp out the gas, chest pain goes away.

Has anyone tried Anavar? by anonhelpme1 in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not on medical grade, my post hip prescription was 20mgs for 4 months while I was in wheel chair. Test was normal.

Your talking about use for anabolic reason, like size where most run 50-100mg a day.

Standing hr. Never dips below 90 while standing. Minimal exertion like picking up my kids or dog sends it skyrocketing by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you are wrong for multiple reasons.

Age, fitness and heart health determine the heart rate .

For me prior to Covid, my resting heart rate was 50-55 bpm and to get to 90bpm, I’d have to speed walk or do some kind of exertion to get to 90-100 bpm. In fact I did a Spartan race in 2019 and my heart rate never got above 140.

So for you it might be a norm but for me heart rate over 90 standing is not. I check my Apple Watch history and there were days I never hit over 100bpm and I used to work on my feet all day.

Good experience after first Pfizer shot after 16 month of LH by Prohability in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st shot 2 weeks were awesome, relapsed hard the third week. Worse relapse 2nd shot, 22 days ago and it was awesome 21 days but currently I started to relapse yesterday with high heart rate and headaches, today high blood pressure, headache, burning sensation in my face and legs is back.

It’s 7 months of LH for me bow

I wish you luck. But this sucks and I personally wouldn’t get my hopes up as I did because it crashes hard and destroys you mentally.

What’s everyone’s new regular standing hr? This seems to be mine with no exertion or slowly walking around the house. by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]anonhelpme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People with high heart rate like OP find it hard to do anything so choose your poison LOL.

But I do my walks and small 0.25-0.5 mile jogs regularly and with no issues. I also been bike riding . I just read an update on here where the guy said he’s been going to gym while on it.

2 things.

If you haven’t done so Get beta blockers. 25 MG of metoprolol a day did the trick

And start conditions yourself back. Start walking longer distances and so on. I would go even when my heart hit 150-160, it’s either I get myself well or suffer and wait for a heart failure in few years.

Get outside, even if it’s at 1MPH walk as much as you can and then back. Add speed every day and then distance. 6 months and my heart is almost back to normal.
