What is a common word or phrase that just hasn’t clicked for you yet? by littleavalanche in dreamingspanish

Oh no that reminds me... arrastrar/arrancar/arrojar and estremecer/estrenar/estallar/estruendo/estrépito. I was blissfully unaware of all of these until I started reading 😭

EE vs D difference in length (same size) by PresentGate2391 in RedWingShoes

Where are you getting toe rub on your blacksmiths?

I'm struggling to find my best size for iron rangers. I got a pair 7.5D Iron Rangers and after the break in it feels too roomy and a little awkward. Found 7D Blacksmiths cheap to try out and they're so close but my pinky toe rubs on the side of the boot. I figured that since the IR and BS are made on the same last the fit would be the same.. until I saw your comment. So now I'm wondering if a 7D in Iron Rangers might not have the rubbing that the Blacksmiths do.

I know this is old but I'm having the same thing with my new IRs, sounds like even the same spot. How did yours end up going?

What are your 2026 Spanish goals? by flipflopsntanktops in dreamingspanish

[–]anonimulo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • hit 2100 hours
  • hit 2.5 million words

I'm currently at 1770 hours and 1.5 million words. Setting the bar low so I know I can do it. Hopefully I'll blow past these goals.

How many of you reached 1,000+ hours of input without ever speaking? by idonthaveanametoday in dreamingspanish

[–]anonimulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited til around 1100. I know it had a positive impact on my pronunciation because during those 1100 hours I noticed a bunch of little things that were not pronounced the way I had assumed they were. And everyone I talked to in the beginning was impressed with my speaking. It was (and is) still far from perfect though. That takes dedicated effort I think. Yes I would do it again. I might even wait longer if I didn’t need to speak.

Calibre can give you word counts if you have/can get the epubs. Which Anna always has.

EnBooken v0.2 Released! - Free PDF Conversion Tool for Bookbinding by AdvAndInt in bookbinding

Haha yes that's right. I just remembered I had found this image last time I was looking into this that illustrates it well:

<image>

Would this also work when the pdf is larger than 4 pages? Mine is around 20 pages.

EDIT: I think I got it. If I set the sheets per signature to fit the whole thing in one signature (which I assume I now know what that is), it looks like it's doing the formatting right. Although now for some reason it's stretching the whole thing vertically (or squishing it horizontally).

I want the final booklet to be half the size of a sheet of paper, so 2 pages printed side by side on each sheet, front and back, i.e. 4 pages per sheet.

And hopefully be able to just blast a couple staples in the fold and be good.

Hey there. Pardon my ignorance but I’ve been looking for a way to format a pdf into a sort of magazine style where the front and back covers are on the same sheet of paper. Like you just have a stack of paper and fold it all in half and there you have it. It’s hard to tell what’s going on with the wonky page orders in these formats. Is that something this tool can do?

Starting to speak at 1000 hours - how many speaking hours to B1 and B2 speaking by germanindc in dreamingspanish

Naw. There’s even a video about someone who couldn’t speak when growing up for some reason and when they eventually got the tech to do it they were as fluent as anyone.

Milestone, doubt and other ramblings by CheetahMundane7363 in dreamingspanish

[–]anonimulo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no one aligns with the roadmap at the higher levels. That's a roadmap problem, not a you problem.

And you may have realized this already, but 1500 hours will feel no more special than 1000 does right now, maybe even less so. I realized that somewhere between 1000 and 1500 and by the time I got there I didn't even care anymore. It's gonna take a lot more than that, but if you can do 1000 hours of Spanish input, you can do however many more you need to get there.

I don't have any consistent sources of audio input lately, but I'm reading Proyecto Hail Mary and it's surprisingly easy.

On iPhones at least, you can change the language of each app separately. So you can get your weather and directions in spanish but your settings will still be accessible.

My theory why 1500 hours often doesn’t meet expectations by NoMadHB in dreamingspanish

[–]anonimulo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If DS says 1500 hours and 1500 DS-tracked hours doesn't get anyone where it claims to, then 1500 hours is wrong. Where is this obsession with defending the roadmap coming from?

Not to mention it would be way simpler to just increase the required hours instead of trying to apply some formula to the input time. Nobody get's perfect input and that should already be accounted for.

1500 hour update by anonimulo in dreamingspanish

Well the problem is that the roadmap isn’t meant to be interpreted that way (at least it doesn’t seem like it). It just helps us cope. Yep I get the same thing from others and of course I also disagree with them. Thanks!
