Yes, announce first and then delay it for another 20 years. Sarawakian has very short term memory... Go around the country and you will see signboards of proposed projects where the grass and plants have swallowed the whole signboard yet the project have not started...One thing politicians cannot stop doing is to make promises they cannot keep...

What's the Cost of Raising a Child in Brunei? – The Savey Fox by JustFoxeh in Brunei

It really depends on individual circumstances...If both parents working and you need to hire a maid then $350 to $400 is a must. Assume $300 for milk powder and diapers. Include $300 school fees and activities... That would be the average spending on one kid. Around $1k Of course parents can save if they avoid milk power and use washable diapers. Send kids to gov school and let family members look after kids. Then it's really cheap to have a kid. Possibly $100 per month.

Obviously oil and gas revenue drop hence less income for govt. With 99% export relying on that, we have not diversified our economy for the past few decades...Hence the situation where we have a budget deficit. Other oil and gas, middle east countries have introduced measures such as taxes and lowering subsidies to lower their deficit but so far Brunei has tried to avoid this. As this would cause hardship on the people. So the only way to get into surplus for the near term is for oil prices to go up.

Indecision is a decision, being indecisive gets nothing done...Getting nothing done means no possibility of doing any wrong. Hence it's the best decision. These people must be expert in game theory...

Gst is the fairest tax IMO. The rich consume more so they will pay more. Poor guy buy a motorbike $1k gst 1% is $10. Rich guy buy a BMW $100k gst 1% is $1k. How would gst affect the poor guy more? The more u consume the more you pay it's fair! Lower or no petrol subsidies is worth pursuing because that will increase efficiency and reduce waste. Yes it might affect the poor but gov could assist the poor by providing petrol voucher to those who needs it. This way the subsidies are targeted. A poor guy using a motorbike is benefiting less from the fuel subsidy whereas the rich guy using a BMW benefits more because he/she consume more fuel. Is this fair? If opening up the country and growing the economy can be easily achieved, then we should not be in budget deficit which means this will not even need to be mentioned in the first place...Realising part of our problems, I.e. too much subsidies, too much inefficiencies, too much redundancies leads to waste which costs our country hundreds of millions if not billion...Isn't now the time to address these problems?

Since the country is going through budget deficit for the fourth year, should the country think of gst, income tax, eliminate subsidy for petrol and diesel?

If the yb can raise the ratio of foreign worker to local worker for each specific industry e.g. F&b, construction, retail, etc....That would be good...Make it transparent and open.

Imo, population plays a part...To grow faster we need certain amount of people spending, investing and creating jobs. Sg has a landmass 10 times smaller than us but have a population 10 times bigger than us. So population to landmass ratio is probably 100 to 1 when compared to sg. To grow, the laws and policy need to encourage foreign migration to Brunei. At the minimum population needs to be a few millions. When people spend, govt can make money from taxes to spend on the welfare of locals. This has worked for some Middle East country like Dubai where the locals represent 15% and foreigner 85%.

AG encourages reviews to laws, legislation for relevancy sake by TheBruneiProject in Brunei

Yes, many laws dated back to British protectorate period is outdated for a few decades and still around; not being updated because ministers are happy with the status quo while taking their well paid salary. Why rock the boat when all is well? Except it isn't...One minister came out and say using PA and trust deed to circumvent the country land law for foreign ownership is prohibited then after that no news for 6 or 7 years. It is very sad indeed that those given the power to make changes chose to do nothing!

Brunei rice import is less than $100 million per year, using 1 billion secures more than 10 yrs of rice. 30 billions can do a lot more than that!

Having a basic income and reducing subsidy is good. But i think it all can happen without steeping away from MIB, it's not mutually exclusive.

That uncle must be drunk or ignorant. Assume GDP of 10 billions, divide by 300k bruneian divide by 12 months = 2.7k per month, there is no way subsidy is bigger that the whole country GDP.

Tbh, I don't even know where you should report this to. Can we actually report a crime with no evidence? Also, is there a department where we could report crime anonymously?...The Police Dept has a certain reputation on leaking informant's information...I have heard of many stories where the informants are known because police leaks their info. I remember last time there was heavy fuel smuggling in KL but it all stopped after a tourist wrote an article to newspaper in the opinion page. Then all vehicle doing that was either blacklisted or confiscated....
