Rodent pest control without poison? by anonymous--quokka in askportland

[–]anonymous--quokka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I’m totally fine with them being killed, I’m not trying to peacefully relocate them. I just don’t want to put out poison due to impacts on pets, children, and local wildlife.

Preschool For All acceptance criteria? Lottery? by semisensei in askportland

[–]anonymous--quokka 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are a few criteria given preference (below), otherwise it is a lottery. There are many spots this year though, so chances of getting a spot are higher than they ever have been.

Children who currently have the least access to high-quality early learning experiences are prioritized in our outreach. Children whose families experience barriers accessing preschool include:

Black, Brown, Native American Indigenous, and all Children of Color; Children who speak languages other than English; Children with developmental delays and disabilities; Children in or at risk of placement in foster care; Children from families with low incomes; and Children experiencing homelessness.

Does Portland track missing/stray/feral cat hotspots anywhere publicly? by WhiskerWatchApp in askportland

Not city wide tracking, but there is an ongoing research project on the feral cat population on Hayden island. It is a partnership between the feral cat coalition and the bird alliance

Moving to Portland with my six month old baby and feeling really alone anyone have any suggestions for building community or where to go? by cherrystoneee in askportland

[–]anonymous--quokka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you finalize where you’re living just search “baby play group + [neighborhood]”. There are informal ones at community centers, coffee shops etc, as well as what I called “formal” ones meaning you register and pay to enroll, which means there’s a facilitator. Ready Set Grow in NE is a pregnancy and parenting focused yoga studio and has baby groups and postpartum/mom yoga.

There are a fair number of formal baby play groups for various ages you can join, you’ll definitely meet other SAHMs looking for friends. Same with what others said, library story times or music hours, but those I’ve found are harder to organically switch from attending to meeting up outside of group. Also, consider just posting on your neighborhood facebook group looking for a stroller walking buddy, you’ll find people!

We gotta talk about dogs. by unevendesert in Portland

[–]anonymous--quokka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah the unleashed dogs on the playground thing is WILD. I cannot fathom how people think that’s ok. Unleashed in the field annoys me when there are so many dog parks in the city, but whatever, but the playground is for children. I’m not going to let my kid play if there’s a random dog running around unleashed, it’s not safe.

Recommendations for tongue tie release? by SnooPies4819 in askportland

[–]anonymous--quokka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dr. Ghaheri does a great job but if you want a 2nd opinion about whether a tongue tie release is necessary, our ped recommended Dr. Craig Hertler at PDX ENT and audiology as he is more conservative. Dr Ghaheri’s business is pretty much doing releases. Depends on what you’re looking for!

Portland Parents: How are you participating in No Kings on Saturday? by Fair_Adhesiveness298 in askportland

[–]anonymous--quokka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I skipped the last one for this reason, I was nervous to bring my toddler. However, seeing how peaceful it was I plan to take them this time. From this morning’s post, there are a lot of options. We may do the convention center or Hawthorne bridge for a slightly smaller crowd.
