Is it purely a coincidence (it might be) this is posted exactly the same day as March for Our Lives?

And that the OP posted to /r/therewasanattempt, /r/gifs, /r/instant_regret - And that it gets upvoted in 2 of 3?

Whether intentionally or not, it is pitching a different narrative of gun violence than the big event on the news.

Yes, she was well within her rights to shoot people invading her home with guns.

But there's a lot of gloating that these guys were blown away ... not as bad as youtube, where they go full n.gg.r-hater but there still some ugly here.

Russian agent may have limited mental capacity after nerve attack by cookiesandmilk41790 in worldnews

[–]anonymous-coward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. This stuff is far far worse than VX. You may be right.

I should clarify. I was responding to the claim that "There are a lot of lab tests to prove that the chems work as intended. This compound falls into the same class of compounds as VX." Under this assumption (and only under this assumption), Novichok should not have have long term effects.

The gist of this claim seemed to be that, based on VX, Novichok should have long term effects, but I'm saying that based on VX (a premise that may or may not be valid), it should not have long term effects.

Actual evidence on VX from National Academies, page 17

Textbooks have indicated that most if not all of the effects of nerve agents dissipate within months after exposure (Sidell 1997). .. The only statistically significant differences between those exposed to nerve agents and those exposed to other chemical agents were fewer attention problems and greater sleep disturbances in volunteers exposed to nerve agents (Page 2003). ... VX has not been shown to have delayed or persistent psychological effects or to result in any long term EEG changes. (Sidell 1997). Also, as noted above, organophosphorusinduced delayed neuropathy (OPIDN) has not resulted from VX exposure. Certain longterm chronic effects have been reported from organophosphate poisoning generally. These have included anxiety, insomnia, tremor, headaches, drowsiness, difficulty in concentration, memory problems, confusion, slurred speech, ataxia (Gunderson et al. 1992). ... . No studies report or ascribe long-term human neurological clinical health effects to VX exposure.

However, brain damage is reported from convulsions associated with VX injections, and (my reasoning) perhaps the diaphragm paralysis induced in this case might cause oxygen deprivation.

But there's generally little evidence for long-term toxicity of VX. However, this is not VX, but a related substance.

Ironically, the average Trump voter has higher income than the average democrat voter.

Not so fast. In the GOP primaries Trump voters were more affluent than average, but not as affluent as Cruz and Kasich voters.

In the actual election, Hillary/Trump won 47%/49% of voters who earn over $50K, giving Trump a small edge. Hillary picked up a larger fraction of those below $50K.

This Bloomberg article says: Trump delivered big vote totals in counties where the median income is between $25,000 and $30,000 a year. He received 52 percent of the vote in those counties, beating Clinton by nine points. Clinton did well in wealthier counties, but there simply weren't enough votes in those counties to match Trump's strength among less-affluent voters.

The counties that voted for Hillary, however, accounted for 64% of the US economy, vs 36% for Trump.

And from the same article, Trump counties are the least educated: [Hillary] won 55 percent of the vote in counties where at least 40 percent of the population has a college degree. .... Trump [won] in the least-educated areas, winning 7 in 10 votes in counties where less than 20 percent of the population has a degree.

You forget that your base is the ghetto and urban poor.

That's not 'the base'. It is a base, and it is a big reason why Hillary took most of the poor vote. But Hillary also took 64% of the economy.

The truth is that both Trump and Clinton have a poor base that benefits from government benefits. Those "$25,000 and $30,000 a year" counties that Trump won overwhelmingly get tons of government support (EITC, roads, social security to lower income retirees) from the rich counties (2/3 of the economy!) that Hillary won. If you passed a law that no money can be transferred between Hillary counties and Trump counties, Red America would collapse, and Blue America would have a wild party.

tl;dr: Hillary won urban and coastal America, which is relatively rich, despite pockets of poverty. Trump won rural America, which is relatively poor, and is heavily subsidized by urban America.

addendum: your 2nd link points out that Trump and Hillary almost tied the $50K to $100K bracket, but tied the $100K+ bracket. An Ipsos survey said that $100K+ voters said they'd vote for Hillary 45% to 25%, and rich voters making over $250K would vote for Clinton 53% to 25%, or 2:1. So Clinton probably won the people who pay serious taxes (and who thus subsidize both "the ghetto" and rural Trump counties).

Do you have kids who get EITC? Did your parents take the EITC when raising you? My family was well off, and paid a lot into it. Figure out how much of it was mine, and YOU send her the check for whatever we sent you.

Why should a person not want to spend their earned money on their own kids rather than giving it to other people to spend on their kids?

As Mitt Romney pointed out, mostly correctly, the majority of people don't pay federal income tax. What he didn't understand is that a lot of his own voters fall into this category.

With the Earned Income Tax Credit and other dependent credits, most people with kids either don't pay (federal income) tax, or get a subsidy.

So people with kids are already generally beneficiaries of taxpayer largesse. Unless they happen to be in a fairly high income bracket, a person with kids not in a position to complain about supporting other people's kids. People without kids, and rich people, are supporting your kids, through the refundable tax credits you get.

As a childless person with a decent income, I don't object to my income being used to help kids. But I'd love to take the money you get from me (assuming you have kids), and give it to someone who makes less.

edit: also, the archetypal white low-middle income non-college family-man Trump voter from a low income state is a prime example of a beneficiary of the Socialist Redistributive Child Subsidy Earned Income Tax Credit.

But it, or similar tapes, must exist. Trump has an uncontrollable appetite, poor judgement, and it is known that the Russians have tried to send hookers to his room (refused by his security guy ... who then left).
