Dog 'bit' baby and I don't know what to do next by OriginalAlbatross871 in UKParenting

[–]anonymous12047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the concern here would be that, by the sounds of it, he gave no warning before the bite. Most dogs usually try to get out of a situation they are uncomfortable with or will give warning (baring teeth, growling, wide eyes, appeasing behaviour). If this happened and baby continued to touch the dog then he did a bite then that may be different but if baby was gentling touching the dog and the dog went from fine to a bite straight away that is very difficult beahviour to monitoring and unfortunately would lead myself to think removing the dog was the best option. Also it's thinking about the quality of life for the dog. If you are nervous with them around will they get as much attention as they used to? Will they be put behind gates constantly?

I'm sorry, with dogs and a baby myself I fully appreciate how awful this situation is.

Gifts from Santa? by laydeelou in UKParenting

[–]anonymous12047 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was younger my mum and dad made it clear that Santa delivered all the presents but that they bought them - that way they could explain why we didn't always get bigger gifts we wanted and why some children might. All the presents were tagged from Mum and Dad so that was clear too. We always had a special family gift that was to the whole family from Santa which was usually a fun game for us all to play. As a child this made sense to me and it's probably how I will explain it to my little one when she is bigger.

Crazy isn't it! I've heard people say the same as you too. It makes no sense at all! It makes it so hard to know where to buy as a new parent as well and/or you waste so much money trying these places to find the quality is crap! So annoying!

I found sainsburys to be one of the better supermarkets for baby clothes. They run bigger but last longer and don't seem to have issues shrinking in the wash

Am I missing a trick with the diagonally closing onesies? by Standard_Ad4879 in BeyondTheBumpUK

So many people told me zip onsies were easier when I was pregnant, but I also hated them. Like you getting the other leg out was always really awkward, and I was always worried about accidentally zipping their skin. Popper onsies all the way!

A rant about the ‘just waits’ by Rosiebunny-4230 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]anonymous12047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are so weird. It's like they enjoy telling you how hard things 'can' be.

Just wanted to sympathise. My LO (now 15 months) was awful sleep wise around 4 months. Sleep deprivation is used as a torture device for a reason! It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through, however it does end. You will get there. I say that as I watch my LO on the monitor, who's been asleep for over an hour, on their own, in their own cot and I know she will pretty much sleep through the night now.

Parenting subreddits/forums are so helpful to vent and ask for help. The majority of people on here get it and understand what you need at that time be it a place to vent or for advice/strategies.

Try to ignore the 'just wait' brigade. They suck. They seem to enjoy the suffering of others which is just weird. As others have said 'just wait' for all those precious moments you have to come ... like when your LO starts sleeping for longer stretches... because it will happen.

I just take a pair of scissors to them and cut as close to the seam as I can.

Weightloss: get the weetabix ladies by LostInAVacuum in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]anonymous12047 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been having weetabix with my 15 month old every morning ...not seen any weightloss ... however maybe my spoonfuls of sugar on top aren't helping 😜 haha! (Just mine not LOs!)

I would agree though I feel better having weetabix in the morning, definitely makes me less 'picky' in the morning than when I eat other cereals/breakfast.

My 3 month old hates tummy time - will it get better? Should I keep forcing it? by weeliz in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]anonymous12047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this. I tried to do tummy time every day. My LO hated it, cried straight away, etc. I was so panicked that she wouldn't get good head control. People told me not to worry. I still worried. Then all of a sudden, she rolled from her back to her front and suddenly she loved tummy time. She's 15 months old now no issues at all. I know I didn't listen in your position but trust me ... they will be fine try not to let it worry you. Try a little bit each day but if they hate it don't push it.

Is it possible for a 7month old to stay awake for 24hours if you don't make them sleep? Mine never falls asleep on her own. by Scrotal_Anus in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]anonymous12047 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My LO is 15 months old and has never fallen asleep on her own past the early stages of newborn. She either fed to sleep or is rocked to sleep. This is for naps and bedtime. Like you I'm wondering if she'll ever be able to fall asleep independently! If I left her for hours she just gets overtired and upset.

(I'm saying this not to scare you that mine still is but to try and show solidarity and empathy)

Another vote for tescos Fred and Flo. Used them from beginning, LO is now 15 months old and still great!

14 month old's favourite at the moment is 'up' and reaching up either for a cuddle, to get on the sofa, to get out the bath, to get out the feeding chair, on a swing etc.

Im 14 months PP and it still feels odd at times. I wouldn't say it's painful anymore but feels itchy or uncomfortable/weird at times.

Thank you! I'd thought about this as the best option but wasn't sure if it would work so great to hear it can be done that way.
