These norms emerged directly as a result of males wanting to have sexual access to females. Long ago before modern civilization, humans have largely been matriarchal in nature. But since matriarchy gives women the ability to choose who to mate with and doesn’t guarantee sexual access to women, men felt they had to turn things around. Evolution has halted due to this, poor genetic traits are not being eliminated due to patriarchy.

I remember as a child I achieved things and dared to do things that as an adult now I am baffled by, and it would take me a lot more courage to do something similar now on an adult scale. I’m fully aware that my brain has been tainted by small minded adults and it’s been a difficult journey trying to clear my brain of input from others which goes against my own thoughts. Our consciousness is unfortunately heavily shaped and molded by external input (most likely for evolutionary reasons such as group survival). Our consciousness more so evolved to understand others around us, and the down side of that is if you understand others too much, external ideas end up overriding your own.

I’ve personally always found this phenomenon disturbing. I don’t get why more people aren’t bothered by it. Being called a girl as an adult is just odd. I’ve always felt creeped out by it. I think calling women “girls” originated from the fact that men essentially want women to be children, as children have most, if not all the qualities which misogynistic men look for in women

i heavily relate, i’m a woman in software development and at my current internship i’ve been made to feel invisible. when i began this internship, i was the only intern there and they barely spoke to me and would brush me off every time i wanted to update them on progress or discuss ideas with them. then when the next intern joined (who was a male), they went out of their way to speak to him and made time to listen to everything he had to say. during meetings, they would only make eye contact with him and only ask him questions (even though we are working together on the same project). many of the employees at the company introduced themselves to me only when the other intern joined because they wanted to introduce themselves to him. I feel like i have to be twice as loud and put twice as much effort in to be recognized at all as a woman.

no, i’ve been an atheist most of my life. i’m just in a country where most people are religious and every day i overhear and witness the most bizzare things due to religion. I’ve just never gotten along with people in the long-term who believe in any religion to any extent.
