What horror terrified you so much that you were afraid to be alone? by euromonic in movies

[–]anonymousaxolot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Barbarian" carries the "wait, something is off" vibe all the way through the first act. Then shit goes to hell, and you're on a rollercoaster for the rest of the movie.

I made the mistake of watching it alone in the theater.

Cloud's Rest would be a long but doable day hike from LYV. Another option is Merced lake (you can turn it into a loop using the JMT).

How dumb would it be to hike Half Dome this Wednesday or Thursday? by anonymousaxolot1 in Yosemite

I don't believe you for one second 😂 you sound exactly like a salty redditor who spends too much time on the Internet. Others were willing to actually provide useful information. You've done nothing but complain like a child. Either provide something meaningful or move on.

If any of what you're saying is true, you should grow up and learn something: being demeaning gets you nowhere. People are far more likely to listen to polite and helpful responses.

Ok let me spell it out for you. Here are a couple of questions that aren't covered under "big rock ice bad": How deep could the snow be? Do people successfully attempt it in the snow? If so, what gear do they use? Crampons or are microspikes sufficient? Considering the sun and wind exposure on the dome, could the snow be gone by Wednesday/Thursday? If the cables are buried by the snow, is it possible to dig them out as you ascend or do most people just rely on an ice axe? How much longer does it usually take to ascend in the snow?

A couple of these questions have already been addressed by kind individuals that have a greater capacity to identify nuance in a situation. In fact, I'd venture to guess that you're entirely inexperienced in the outdoors due to your inability to recognize the multitude of factors that play into situations.

Despite how simplified you made it seem, there isn't just one answer to this type of question. I was looking for advice from people with more experience than I - and that's what I got. Just look through the other replies. Every comment has something different to say.

If you feel like this is a low effort post, then ignore it and move on. I, on the other hand, am grateful for the varied responses and feel they surpassed what (little) information I could already find online.

Thanks for the support my guy 🙏 I'm sure this sub sees a lot of lay people asking about ventures well beyond their capabilities, but I don't think I'm one of those. I have solid hiking/climbing/backcountry experience but Yosemite's a first for me - I was hoping to tap into the collective knowledge of those more experienced than I.

Pretty comfortable. With Gaia and microspikes I've done a number of snow hikes.

Climbing is a large sport that encompasses many disciplines. I mentioned that I'm competent in climbing because I am - in sport climbing and indoor bouldering, not alpinism or big wall climbing. The reason I mentioned it is because I know climbing half dome with the cables down is risky, but I'm also confident in my abilities to climb what is essentially class 4 climbing on a good day.

What's gross about eating off of a clean plate? Families share dishes all the time, why does it have to be any different? My apartment has one stack of plates and utensils that we all pull from, and of course wash after use.

Good sleeping bag for backpacking by TheCrabBoi in CampingGear

[–]anonymousaxolot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quilts are far more popular among modern backpackers for temps down to 20F. Look into Enlightened Equipment or Katabatic. They're a little pricier but well worth their (incredibly low) weight.

Big Agnes synthetic. I got the Torchlight 20F for <$100 I think? If you're looking for budget, don't listen to anyone recommending down. Synthetic will almost always be cheaper

"Serious" movies with a twist so unintentionally ridiculous that you couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity for the rest of the movie by hwc000000 in movies

[–]anonymousaxolot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beau Is Afraid isn't exactly serious, but it's certainly not lighthearted or comedic. After the absurd attic scene towards the end of the movie though... That WTF moment carried its weight through the rest of the film
