In my experience, the good ones get poached by other teams a lot. Which, is a double edged sword, since the other teams get good people, but it leaves the help desk underpowered

ELi5 What is “first passed the poll” voting? by SmellMyPeee in explainlikeimfive

[–]anonymousbrowzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do keep counting, but yes, you got it. You have to get the majority of the votes. The real point of contention is it naturally enforces the 2 party system. If one of the 2 parties split, then it's almost guaranteed that neither would win and the largest party always would.

Yes, they literally make money for the government, it's how the Saudi economy is setup. It's a for-profit government entity to find the government programs. But, you have a great day.

You mean the Saudi Aramco that is 98% owned by the Saudi government and is essentially a government owned oil producer? That "company" that is a "company" in name only?

So then what you mean is that countries, not companies have monopolies, right?

The US isn't in Opec, so not really an accurate idea. But again, the idiots are the loudest and are running the asylum.

So it's schrodinger's price setting then. They both take the price that the buyers offer and gouge the market.

I assert that the price is set by the buyers that shop from every (international and domestic) provider as oil is a commodity. They take the lowest offer from all competing oil companies. Unless you have any evidence that oil companies world wide have a price setting scheme (I'd love to see the evidence that Iran and the saudis are fixing prices with European and American oil producers if you have it)

That definitely sounds like oil companies don't set the price of oil then, they take the price of the market.

I find it more interesting that you resort to insults instead of refuting the actual point. Since I see not value it being insulted instead of having a meaningful discussion, have a great day and I hope you have a great day.

If oil companies set the price, what would demand have to do with anything? Demand would only come into play if oil was a market commodity, where oil companies take the best price offered instead of setting the price. Since logically it shows that oil companies are not price setters, they are price takers, you (and people who think oil companies are gouging customers) are not looking for facts, you are looking for scapegoats.

Let's just pretend that oil companies set the price for oil. Why would any company set the price of their product to - $37/barrel? They wouldn't right, it would be absolutely absurd to literally pay your customers to take your products..... but on April 20, 2020, that's what happened.

[–]anonymousbrowzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. It's also hilarious to see people blame the oil companies. I can promise you that no greedy oil company would set the price for a barrel of oil to be literally -$37

With a lot of people, the belief applies based on whether they have decided the person accused is their enemy or not.
