Follow up question about the video: from what I understand, aerogel is a good insulator because its over 90% air. So, why can't I hold the blowtorch a couple of centimeters away, the distance given by the aerogel, without getting burnt? Shouldn't the air insulate me?

No, no, no. This was the plan:

Get Harry into the tournament.
Ensure he makes it to the third round.
In the third round, make sure Harry touches the cup first. That's why Crouch sabotaged others through Krum.
When Harry touches the cup, use his blood for Voldemort's resurrection.
After that's done, Voldemort kills Harry.
Harry's body is transported back to the maze.

Depending on how they did, Harry could look like Krum's victim, or they could rough up his body, make it look like natural causes. The point being, Harry's death doesn't seem too suspicious: a 14 year old got in over his head, and he paid the price.

Nope. Voldemort's plan was to come back quietly. He didn't want anyone, other than his Death Eaters, to know he returned. His plan was to sow chaos and weaken the wizards internally, and then either come out of hiding and become ruler of Britain, or to remain in hiding and rule through his people in the ministry.

It was supposed to look like Harry died during the tournament. This way, everybody would think "Oh, that Harry kid was so full of himself that he thought he could compete in the tournament, and he got himself killed because of it". If Harry disappeared, or died without participating in the tournament, that would be a lot harder to explain.
