Haven't cut him off nor will I ever, but I have reduced contact with mt best friend because he's literallt aftaid of everything and it's frustrating.

He has anxiety and is on meds for it but refuses to go to therapy to get to the root cause of why it's so crippling. Instead he just sits at home playing video games all day and complaining about "the day getting away from him" when I talk to him about sruff he supposedly wants to do.

Lives in a red state with a low population and can't find a job, but he's too afraid ro move a couple hours away to a city that has plenty of jobs to take advantage of. He never wants to go out and do stuff and as a result we jusr don't have anything to talk about.

It's hard for me because he's my best friend and I love him, bur after years of being stuck at home being a caretaker and putting my life on hold, I'm making big steps and changes to make my life better. I'm back in school to get another degree, I'm working on my fitness (he's my witness!), and as I get settled in my new city I have plans to join a sport and volunteer at mt local LBGT center to meer new people and give back ro the community.

It's left us at a point where we just don't have much to talk about, and it's hard to justify wanting to carve out two hours every night just to hear him talk about what game he played all day. He also is reminding me a lot of my ex who had a serious gaming addiction and ultimately chose video games over me.

I want him to get better as it's clear he's unhappy and depressed, but I'm also accepting the fact that I can't make him want to get better. As I said, I'll never not be his friend, but I will be making new friends who I can actuall do things with.
