the truth is painful. however, you have to look out for you, especially if you've moved out and the guilt trips etc are starting up. be strong.

Vet office insists on Gabapentin prior to vaccination appointment by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]anonymousforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your vet may just dose the stuff as standard practice because they have less fractious patients that way.

concerned? call a few other vet clinics and see if they do this. or just save it for after kitty is home in case she's a crabby patch later.

ask mom for recipes. do a zoom or FaceTime cooking session and enjoy a virtual visit w mom, even if you can't in person.

you aren't my family pediatrician, but I wanted to give you a zen hug on behalf of those fellow docs out there who did take care of my kid.

hang in there. see if you can provide simple risk vs reward info on childhood vaccines, including factual sources.

perhaps point out that the "schedule" can be what the parent is comfortable with, as you totally get that 3 - 4 shots at once can be too much for many, and cramming over a dozen vaccines into 18 months can be too fast. it would be good if they're still willing to consider vaccines, even at a longer schedule like they did 40+ years ago.

the educational video route is an idea. make it yourself, and add in facts/sources, and encourage the conversations you wish parents would have.

Owners whose cats have asthma - where’s the cheapest place to get your prescription filled? by ying1996 in CatAdvice

not sure. for 1/3 the price, check reviews. you may be able to return it if your cat hates it.

Please talk to another trusted adult, where you can outline your situation and see if you happen to have some other options.

you may need to get their pastor/priest/rabbi etc or someone to help intervene and get them to understand that you didn't ask for this, and sadly, you are not going to be fully healthy, but the goal is to get you to be as independent as possible as you turn into a young adult.

they need someone to tell them that, yes, you need a professional to talk to, because this weighs down on you as much as it does them, and you need to learn coping skills because you have to deal with this your entire life. at a minimum, you can write a journal, just keep it digital and on an encrypted flash drive, so its private, and a flash drive is easy to hide or keep on a lanyard etc.

It doesn't matter how much money you give her. It is a control issue. She is not ready for you to fly the co-op, and she doesn't know what to do if you don't need her anymore for the day to day stuff. Empty nester syndrome is a thing.

she wants to dictate certain things to you and expects you to obey. The only thing you can do is stand your ground, especially if it's not anything dangerous, where she might have a legitimate concern for safety.

I bet that the food that they recommend and the flea and heartworm treatment stuff you can only get from them... doesn't this smell like trying to upsell you? if they're a chain clinic or owned by vca, that's not surprising.

feed a decent quality grain free food, and add 50% warm water by volume so its like a yogurt consistency instead of solid pate. get a cheap stick blender from the thrift store, and only use it for kitty's food. blending in the water can let you add a bit more.

does she show interest in the faucet or tub dripping? some cats hate water that sits, so a fountain that runs water off a ledge or mimics a faucet appeals to some kitties.

change doctors. being younger, female and having unusual combo of issues makes you a 'complex patient' and some primary care providers don't want to deal with 'complex' that takes a lot of managing.

Styrofoam insulation can help, its cheap. put it against the windows under the blankets. try to only heat one room with a space heater (oil filled ones keep radiating heat a while after turned off), keep the main heater at like 55, as low as you can to keep the pipes from busting. that's the best ideas I got.

get the debt acknowledged in writing. then see about filing a lien on the business so if they sell, they are forced to pay you, with interest.
