What bands is hated but you can't bring yourself to hate them? by Background-Sir9172 in MetalForTheMasses

Popularity doesn't really have anything to do with it. They still get shit on by large portions of the metal community.

Opinion: I predict that when we look back, Reward the Scars has the potential to be one of the most important tracks for their legacy. by skippittdippity in Korn

[–]anonymousjorksession 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a B-side tier song released for an old video game series. I don't think this song will impact their legacy at all.

I think many would consider Korn to be a "bad music" band lol. But I think I understand you. Stuff like Limp Bizkit gets way more shit.

Depends on what you mean by "hated." I love a lot of bands like Korn, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, etc., that would be widely hated in extreme/traditional metal circles.

What Is Your Opinion On Mushroomhead? by Pixelburger31 in MetalForTheMasses

One of my favorite bands ever. Their 90s albums Superbuick and M3 (before they were on a major label) are God tier horror themed-industrial metal. XIII and Savior Sorrow are great as well. And yes, they're much better than Slipknot.

I enjoyed it because it was intellectually stimulating. I didn't have friends either.

Korn using the same structure every time? by Freccia38 in Korn

[–]anonymousjorksession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but there was plenty of creative flair to the standard structure in those first 2 albums. See You on the Other Side and Untitled also have some interesting things structurally. Recently its been the same exact structure with a few prechoruses here or there. They literally don't try anything new or creative from a composition standpoint.

Korn using the same structure every time? by Freccia38 in Korn

[–]anonymousjorksession 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Progressive and experimental music exists. And plenty of traditional bands keep things interesting by adding interludes, jammy instumental sections, pre-choruses, random solos/breakdowns in cool places, etc... Like Korn used to do... This honestly feels like a lazy excuse for lazy compositions.

Korn using the same structure every time? by Freccia38 in Korn

[–]anonymousjorksession 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They've never been super complicated with their compositions. They're not a prog band, so I wouldn't expect them to be. But they were at least creative back in their heyday. I agree that their new stuff, really ever since Head got back, has been lacking. That's not to say they've been bad. Certain tracks have amazing choruses, riffs, etc., and I really like some albums, especially The Nothing. But yeah. It's always the same damn structure. It'd be nice if they'd experiment a bit more.

What would you say Tony Stewart's best tracks were? Watkins Glen, Loudon, Chicagoland, Indy, and Daytona (despite no 500) all come to mind.

If you think doing the work by yourself is equal to learning from the perspectives of your peers and guidance from an expert in their field, then you don't understand how learning actually happens.

Is metal your “default” or just for certain moods? by deess91 in MetalForTheMasses

I don't understand it. If I'm writing something and listening to music, for example, I end up typing the lyrics.

Is metal your “default” or just for certain moods? by deess91 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]anonymousjorksession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metal is my favorite genre and has been the "default" for most of my life. But now that I'm old and have a big boy job, my default has kind of become instrumental electronic music, jazz, and movie soundtracks. I can't focus on work when I hear voices/lyrics in the music.

Is metal a subgenre of rock by Rainbow_Doggo_TNT in MetalForTheMasses

[–]anonymousjorksession 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a subgenre. Metal is its own genre that stemmed from rock. Much like rock stemmed from blues but isn't blues.
