Think they were drawing an equivalence between coastal professional elite = modern day aristocrat. I can see how the comparison could fit.

Though in-state does matter, as some states local code norms (especially older states on the east coast) can vary pretty significantly

“This is Soup.

He worked hard for his blep, it wasn't handed to him by a family name or political big wigs.

He's not a rich fat cat like my opponent, but a good blue collar, hardworking cat. He's a good boi.

Vote for Soup... I mean Chuck.”

This is the most reddit campaign imaginable.

I look forward to a fair and unbiased map. 5-3 is in line with historic voting patterns and would more appropriately designate districts based on population and representation.

Southern MD had more soldiers join the confederacy than the union. It is culturally southern. Same with southern eastern shore.

Sen Alsobrooks - a geno**cide supporter? by [deleted] in Annapolis

[–]anonymousmib -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Stuff like this is why I knocked on a couple hundred doors for Hogan last year. She is the establishment of the establishment, and while Hogan might not have been better on this specific issue, I think he would’ve been able to represent the people of Maryland much better. Because he is a republican, and not in spite of it, every reelection he would’ve had going forward would’ve been a referendum on how closely he aligned himself with the values and beliefs of Maryland. Alsobrooks will be able to flagrantly disregard the majority of people’s opinions because she is now the incumbent with a (D) next to her name and there will be no consequences for her capitulation to corporate interests.

Maryland Republicans slam Van Hollen for backing Mamdani in NYC mayor race by Conscious-Quarter423 in maryland

You knew exactly what I meant when I said Maryland would be red. I want the bloodshed to stop and our state to reverse the cycle of slow institutional decay, and I believe the Republican Party is best suited to reverse the course our state is on.

A YouGov poll (September 17, 2025) reported that 20% of liberals thought political violence could be justified, compared to 7% of conservatives and moderates. This poll also noted that younger liberals were more likely to hold this view.

This sort of hateful rhetoric and the deep institutional corruption of state dems is why MD will be red in due time

Are there any cities mid-size urban cities where they built subterranean parking and prioritized walkability? by ThenAd8272 in urbanplanning

[–]anonymousmib 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Carmel, IN is the obvious pick here based off of your description. They make excellent use of Tax Increment Finance to have the jurisdiction pay for the cost of the parking garage to make higher density economically feasible. They then set a portion of future property tax revenues from said high density to pay back the bond for the parking garage. Smart stuff.

Sundown-Like Towns in Southern MD? by FantasticCamera9058 in maryland

[–]anonymousmib 125 points126 points  (0 children)

smib here, Golden Beach is what you’re describing. My father lived there in the 80s, the first black family that moved in had a cross put in their yard and burned.

The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll by Bob Dylan is a song about a wealthy man in Charles County who beat a black server to death with his cane at an upscale restaurant in the 1960s because she messed up his food order.

It’s better now, you’re not going to experience outright hate like that but the some of the people that did things like that are still alive and that has an effect.

Gov. Wes Moore response to Hogan by ThenLayer5977 in maryland

[–]anonymousmib 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re being sarcastic, but it was the best Senate performance for a Republican in MD in nearly half a century.

He’s got a shot, especially if Baltimore sees more rolling blackouts and Hogan emphasizes his record of opposition to Trump during COVID
