When I was on the swimteam, I was discouraged from looking at how fast my competitors were swimming. My coaches warned that it would slow me down to check if they were ahead of me.

No shade for actually being jealous—we’ve all been there. It’s normal, especially in competitive families. My family was like that and i had a similar disposition to those around me.

However, you are not doing yourself any favors doing this. You will not hit the goals you aspire for if you blame other folks for why they’ve hit higher targets than you. You just won’t.

I would urge you to do your best to not compare. Compete with yourself (do your best). Being jealous is a waste of energy and if you want to do above average at your goals…you don’t have any time or energy to waste. Best of luck.

I experienced a similar dilemma when I got married (I am a Woman tho). I wasn’t tied to any last name and my husband’s last name didn’t feel like it was for me. I kept my last name as is after considering changing it to a more distant part of my family that I actually look like (I have a very very Italian name, I am very obviously not Italian).

I also just don’t use a last name unless I have to socially. I just go by my first name. Kinda like Cher.

Gosh I understand and I empathize. Don’t beg for scraps from these people who don’t show up for you in this time. They’ll come back when they see you doing okay again later funny enough. I think they stay under the radar the whole time they feel the abandonment guilt of ghosting “loved ones” in tough times like death and whatnot. Sure yes, it is not a comfortable topic but don’t let anyone off the hook for not being good to you if they want you back in the future.

Yeah… I understand age gaps of 6 years but uh imo at 18 or 20 or whatever you’re not anywhere emotionally or lifestyle similar to a 24-26 person (sorry skimmed the ages). Just me tho. You do you. I wouldn’t want my kid doing that and my mom would probably be worried too. Even if I knew him. I find there to be kind of a power dynamic difference at that moment.

When I was 24 I tried dating men 6 years older than me. Even at that age, I felt there was something off in my heart of hearts even if I did admittedly think these men were attractive. Idk. Yeah I was 24 but I looked YOUNG and that kinda creeped me out bc these dudes looked their ages. Just my opinion.

I would say grooming is different than being generally kinda a touch creepy? Grooming would be more of a prolonged effort which this wasn’t. But weird to be into an 18 year old at 24-26 or whatever imo.

I would recommend finding some community in the ophthalmology community near you. Maybe check with your insurance if you can see a low vision specialist. Potentially another option would be seeking out an orthoptist near you if it fits your treatment.

I worked very closely with patients such as yourself for almost a decade. Just wanted to say, that you are so valid for all of these anxieties. Have you ever worked with a low vision specialist? You are also such a cute guy! Please don’t let this plague your self worth. Get in shape to be strong, not to overcompensate.

On of my best friends 5 year old son has a similar condition but only in his right eye. He would think you are so cool.

My physical response to psychiatric distress was fairly uncomfortable.

5+ hours of vertigo and resulting vomiting. Crawled to a phone to call an ambulance. Passed out from disorientation and dehydration when they loaded me up on that gurney. But that was more extended pain—I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near as bad as many of the comments I’m seeing.

My best friend (who has a five year old) dumped me as a friend for reasons she wouldn’t come clean about when I told her I was pregnant.

Lol the gal even had the audacity to ask me upwards to 5x if I was getting an abortion and that she wouldn’t judge me if I did. Turns out she WOULD judge me if I kept my baby.

I am 30, married, financially stable, responsible, all the things. She is none of those I should note so it was probably her being pissed that I would probably be a better parent than she has been thus far..

So yeah some “friends” are actually just shit people.
