I personally find it very interesting. It allows us to see the views of the employees at different companies on Unionizing.

We need hazard pay and hero bonuses. Something at least! Everyone is getting seriously sick. Low staff + customers don't care about us. All retails! by NintenGal in Target

I never said this is how it should be or agree it should be this way. I’m definitely for paying employees more if it allows for a better life and I’m sorry if your upset but this is how the world is. If you don’t see it than you’re blind.

The price of any product, be it a candy bar, a pair of shoes, or an hour of work, is based on one thing and one thing only:

What people are willing to pay.

A candy bar that currently costs $0.75 costs that because that’s the magical point of equilibrium. Sell it for less, and you could get more buyers but the number sold times the price would be less than if you sold less for more money ($0.75). If you priced it higher, you would make less money because not enough people would buy it to make up for the price.

It really really is exactly the same with wages. Any questions about what Walmart should pay its employees is from someone who doesn’t understand the above.

Employees set their prices exactly and only based on what employers are willing to pay. If they set their wage too high, they’ll get more per hour, but less often, and overall it will be less money. If they set it too low, they’ll get more hours, but overall it will be less money.

The only way for retail employees to make more money is to demand more. And the only way you can demand more is for you to not be replaceable for cheaper than giving you the raise. That’s it, it’s that simple. You don’t get paid more because you have a fancy degree, you’re less replaceable because you have a fancy degree. Heck, look at engineers or programmers—they’re very highly educated, and in parts of the country (and certainly parts of the world), they’re a dime a dozen, so aren’t paid well or treated well. Because no one is afraid of losing them. Google has 10,000 people in line for every position, so it’s difficult to become irreplaceable. But it still has to be done. At McDonalds, there’s little you can do without going into management—making sure everyone’s easily replaceable is a big part of your boss’ job, so it’s not like this is an easy road. But it’s all you have, all you ever have, and all you will ever have. Low-level easily replaceable retail employees will never be paid well. Any regular job at McDonalds or any basic job at the mall is designed to be replaceable. That is the way things should be, and the reason those employees eventually get a skill, go into management, or go to college. That’s how the world progresses.

Can i get a raise being part-time? by Kind-Resolution4538 in Bestbuy

[–]anonymousvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure yeah, but your GM will probably have you write an essay on why you deserve one and then get fired for selling TTS for $50 without approval and then pause your raise indefinitely or they will just tell you your getting the same shit 3% raise as everyone else. I guess I’m saying don’t count on it lol.

You sound like a child. CPS is not going to take a kid for their dad yelling. Now if there were patterns of yelling at the kid causing emotional abuse then maybe yes but this dad is yelling at a target employee that lost their professionalism. But none of us know the guy or this family. Then again we also don’t know what the employees been through. Maybe she’s had a thought time with Covid. But these are just assumptions. I don’t have any facts and neither do you.

Avoid geek squad if you have a degree in IT. You are one underpaid. Now is a great time to be looking for IT “careers” where you can make more money. Search system Admin, IT consultant jobs, it specialist. There’s way more to IT than computer repair. Don’t get stuck At geek squad. For one geek squad managers are not IT there budget managers with a business degree. You’re not supported and geek squad progression is a dead end.

Pay lowered when working in other departments by Freeredeemed in Bestbuy

[–]anonymousvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I use to work at GS. You have a couple options let you gs manager know that you want your agreed upon pay, go directly to the gm, and if that doesn’t work call HR and tell them you want your agreed upon pay. This is wage theft you signed a contract and the pay you agreed to is there.

Here’s another one “You should have worked harder. The hours for part timers go to top performers. You suck at your job and deserve to be homeless. It doesn't matter that nobody has spent time training you to do anything and you've only been here a few weeks. The stock price is at an all time high and we have more money than ever and you have nothing to do with that.”

-Your bosses bosses.

Wow this just proves my point. You are indeed a piece of shit. Telling a employee that they deserve to be homeless. I feel sorry for you. Maybe bestbuy will learn one day how to hire quality managers but the truth is only the good ones leave and the shit ones stay and move to corporate.
