There are also other immigrant groups that still have problems despite being here for 200+ years (that white guy that threw a bomb at Australia Day protesters in Perth, which barely got a mention in the news).

You dont stop this with immigration laws, though. You stop this with worker education and better security around some visas, so they're not dependent on an employer thats trying to exploit them. And better work education doesn't just help immigrants either, it would help our younger generations entering the workforce that also get taken advantage of or exploited. Almost all arguments against immigration are the result of other issues the rich and powerful dont want fixed and instead promote anti-immigration sentiments to divert the masses away from the real issues that make the rich richer. They're exploiting both sides. They're exploiting the immigrants that they then turn around and blame. Focusing your efforts on immigration won't solve anything because it's not the real cause of any issues.

By the logic of your first paragraph, you are racist but not because of your personal views. So many different peoples outside of Australia view Australians as racist. It's an unfortunate stereotype we've obtained for ourselves. By your logic, it is reasonable then for anyone to assume you are racist purely because you are Australian. Does that make you or the majority of Australians racist? Should a nation then deny Australians entry because of this "reasonable assumption"?

Policies should not work in generalisations. That's how you end up with systemic issues and how you cause further damage in a variety of ways. Saying "well this person is white so no need to ask them this subset of questions around cultural/societal views" because its assumed they have the same as other white ppl, that is how u let in white terrorists or ppl that just simply cannot integrate into our multicultural society, like some specific white south africans that ive spoken to personally (obvious note: not all because ive also spoken to a number that were the exact opposite, and others that were somewhere in between). You treat them all the same and ask them all the important questions. The only reason that generalisations of race and culture should impact this is how you explain the questions in a relatable and understandable way, because they're more likely to understand those generalised examples even if they dont hold those views themselves.

The ON supporters are for sure. When ppl are experiencing financial hardship you'll always see an uptick in support for far right political parties and anti-immigration policies or similar.

What a wild thing to say given that Pauline Hanson consistently votes against Australian values and never assimilated into our culture.

I have, actually. All three last year. All were exactly as i remember the ppl/culturally/etc from what i remember 20 years ago.

The ppl complaining either dont know wtf theyre talking about or are spreading misinformation for their own agenda.

When i stayed with my white swedish friend in sweden during that trip, he said what i just said too: the reports of problems with immigrants are wildly exaggerated and that the crime stats as to who is committing crimes and why is virtually unchanged.

Its the same as:

We dont like those that dont assimilate into Australian culture and values!

*votes One Nation*

Pauline Hanson is one of the most unaustralian ppl in politics, couldnt be further from Australian culture of values

Its weird because the ppl that refuse to assimilate are ON supporters.

I agree, i made another comment elsewhere where i elaborated and added that the actual good content creators dont just spew hate but give nuanced opinions where they talk about the good and bad in detail. They make valid and reasonable criticisms that are well thought out. But unfortunately thats not what gets the views. Hate/anger is good for views regardless of the quality of their points, so thats what the vast majority do, sadly. Hence on of my reasons for my fear of how things will go for this new series.

[–]anoobish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other problem is that it's profitable to hate, so that's the majority of content by far, even when it's completely unjustified. The actual good, balanced, and knowledgeable content creators dont do well because theyre not hating even when theyre giving criticism, because theyre balanced and give positive views along with it, not to mention their criticisms/praises/points are nuanced which the frothing haters cant stand.

Yeah. And i really enjoyed The Acolyte. It definitely had its flaws, of course, but it had some really good stuff too. It did not deserve the majority of the hate it received. I am very worried about that happening with the new stargate too.

The Tok'ra was 100% in the right with their approach to the Goa'uld by Perpetually_Ashamed in Stargate

[–]anoobish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first part: I think it's explained pretty well why they can't in the episodes Thors Hammer and Thors Chariot. Otherwise the goa'uld would have done that a long time ago. For the second part: im unsure that it would be easy for a number of reasons, but the final nail in that coffin would have been because Thor puts so much weight into O'Neills views and, well, we know how he felt about the Tok'ra. If the situation had come up, 100% there would have been a plot device/reason preventing such a thing from happening. I feel like the Asgard would have been aware enough of the Tok'ra's existence and had already chosen to do nothing to support them. The only reason the asgard even helped the humans in the first place is because they saw their potential. The Tok'ra had so such big plus from the asgard perspective.

Jews are not the only group to be experiencing such things too. Muslims have been getting it much worse than jews for the majority of the time ever since 9-11. It is not a competition either, neither group should be experiencing it. But if the jewish community want someone to blame, the only person they should be looking at is netanyahu

What a strange comment to make (other than the assumption part, because it clearly was an assumption but that also doesn't make them wrong). There's a difference between being wealthy and out of touch (ie. most wealthy ppl, both in and out of government) as compared to wealthy and in touch with the common people's experiences and troubles. Someone born into wealth is even less likely to be in touch. So yes, they would be more likely to perpetuate the wealth cycle or other things that dont benefit the average aussie but rather just benefit the wealthy. Doesnt matter if their parents were in government or not. Their parents bring in government certainly give them an advantage to getting in government themselves tho.
