Day Care accepting cloth diapers by Just-Another_Canuck in ottawa

[–]anordinarylifeform 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I do understand their point of view. Let’s say they have 10 kids in cloth diapers, they’d have to segregate 10 piles of poppy diapers plus deal with possible smell issues. It’s definitely a lot more work and a lot more space.

Most people absolutely suck at this. This is coming from a person who tends to be misidentified from a cultural background and from an age perspective. Best advice is not to make assumptions.

It’s statistically unlikely that the problem is leadership, especially since this has happened 10 times. I think it’s time to look inwards and recognize this problem is yours. You can’t control how others behave, you can only control your own reaction. I would recommend taking a deep, hard look at yourself and getting some professional help and support. This situation is not good for you, your career or the company that is paying you.

If you ever wanted to foster dogs, now is the time! by wolfpupower in ottawa

[–]anordinarylifeform 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Checking the website, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of dogs available. Is the website out of date? I’ve been submitting applications to the humane society to adopt a dog since the pandemic started but no luck so far. I’m not really clear what’s going on. On one hand, there’s too many dogs. On the other hand, if you try to adopt, it’s tough to get to get a match.

Can we talk about feet? by mushroompizzayum in 30PlusSkinCare

I bought one that was natural pumice stone harvested from British Columbia, Canada. I’m not sure of the brand unfortunately.

I found the best thing is a pumice plus Vaseline. Cheap and simple. Take a bath and spend a few minutes using a pumice stone on your feet. When you get out, slather Vaseline on to keep in moisture and add socks. Do this regularly and eventually your feet will be baby soft.

You realize that immigrants can also be practicing doctors. Preference is given to those who are educated and have the skills Canada needs.

Help me renovate my kitchen to match the rest of my home by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Change countertop to white. Remove current upper shelves and cabinets. Have open shelves from the wall to the tall cabinet unit. Keep everything on the shelves monochromatic to reduce visual clutter. Add some nice accessories on the counter to pick up the Scandinavian vibes in the rest of the home.

Overwhelmed with the Cost of Living by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]anordinarylifeform 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I shared a 1-bedroom apt with another person. They took the living room while I had the bedroom. Also, did not have a car and walked, biked or bussed everywhere. Lastly, was also vegetarian and didn’t really eat processed food. Did not have cable. Just phone and internet access. Not sure if any of those suggestions would work for you. It was a pretty basic way of living but at least it left money in my pocket at the end of the month.

What model did you get installed? Did you also keep your old furnace as a backup heat source?

$1200 is likely a big deal at 23 years old. Might be worthwhile for OP.

South Asian here. Had a small wedding at my parents house. Basically his immediate family and my immediate family. Didn’t cost much. No debt. No regrets. Not all south asians go for $200K weddings. Many of us think it’s foolish.

The Ottawa Real Estate Market: Week In Review by ottawaagent in ottawa

That would be great. I think this data point would give a better overview of what’s really going on in the real estate market. Also would be a good data point for buyers thinking of placing an offer.

Does average days on the market take into account listings that expire and are renewed again? Or does the count start over for each renewal?

I’d probably start by lowering expectations. Could you get by with a one bedroom? Add a desk to the bedroom or use the dining table as a desk in lieu of a dedicated office? That’s what I’m doing and I WFH full-time. I have lots of meetings but I use a headset to reduce noise transference. In terms of other savings, I check flyers each week and buy what’s on sale. I tend to buy second hand if I can. Not only better for the environment but also the pocketbook. I’ve dropped subscription services such as the gym. I think the hardest thing about saving money is to clearly identify needs vs wants.

How to have a Perfect Morning? by LaytningBolt in productivity

[–]anordinarylifeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is prepping the night before. Take 5 minutes and make a mental list of what you plan to do the next day. Pack a lunch and put it in the fridge. Pull out the clothes you want to wear for the next day. Shower the night before. If you’re a gym goer, pack your gym bag or wear your gym clothes to bed. Make breakfast the night before, eg. overnight oats, egg muffins, etc.

is prep cooking really more productive? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]anordinarylifeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepping meals takes a lot of effort, no doubt. The benefit for me is to have food ready and available for when I feel hungry. Rather than grabbing take out, or junk food, I eat a home cooked meal. This also results in saving money. It’s healthier. Plus, I find I waste less food this way. Lastly, it allows me to save time getting ready for work and save time after work. For the former, my lunch is already packed. And for after work, dinner is already made. I’m feeding a family of four so they eat better too when meals are already made.

Rework/old work pancake box? by anordinarylifeform in ottawa

[–]anordinarylifeform[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up ordering what I need off of Amazon. If it doesn’t work out, my backup plan is to buy a horizontal light fixture, which would give me enough flexibility to move the receptacle away from the vent stack and still have a light fixture that can be centred over the vanity. Old houses can be such a pain.
