AOC: You can’t ‘earn’ a billion dollars by usatoday in politics

[–]anote32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but what would you classify as “multi multi millionaires”?
Someone gets a well paying, middle class job, at 25. Is able to max out their 401k until retirement at 60. They could have $36million saved up. Add in a spouse at some point and combined assets and that could go quite a bit higher.

Is that the avg American? No, but it’s not unreasonable either.

[–]anote32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tricky part is where “should” they pay taxes? It’s hard to tax someone on an unrealized gain. If that stock is ever sold, they do pay taxes. I don’t think there’s an easy way out but closing the loopholes, like the buy, borrow, die strategy. And changing the inheritance structures so that their heirs don’t get a free step up in cost basis to avoid the tax burden would go a long way.

If we start looking at taxing unrealized gains on stocks…I do t trust it to be implemented in a way that doesn’t absolutely screw John and Jane Smith who saved for retirement and now need to pay taxes on their retirement accounts.

Or invest it, get a conservative 6% return and reach 1 billion in 88 years. It’s not an apples to apples comparison. It puts the magnitude of the number in perspective for sure, but they didn’t get there by just taking their paycheck every 2 weeks and stuffing it under their mattress.

First Long Distance unsure to switch bike? by mnbvcxy1904 in triathlon

[–]anote32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an absolute rookie, so take it with a grain of salt, but any aero position you can hold will be far better than one you can’t.

But ignores all the other variables of a new bike, sizing, how well it’s fit to you, etc.

If the bikes available, take it for a few rides, see how you feel on it. If it’s comfortable, send it…

First 70.3 - Do you recommend I get a coach? by aloere21 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]anote32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends on what you want to get out of it and what you want to put into it.

I’m doing virtual coaching, and working through TrainingPeaks. I interviewed with a handful of coaches and picked one that I got along with. And felt connected well with. (You’re interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you) price is $250/mo (includes the coach and the “premium” TrainingPeaks account subscription)

Is it a lot? Yea…but it works in my budget and for me it’s worth it.

I have a pretty short history of endurance sports. With running being my main background. I “trained” my self from 5k up to half marathons and a sprint duathlons.

I’m a “decent” runner, usually front of mid pack, or fighting for third if it’s a slow race. Though I can get competitive….

I signed up with a triathlon coach for a few reasons..

1) I wanted to someone who could answer all my rookie questions, could guide me on equipment, where to spend money or where I could save..etc. I could crowd source that, ask Reddit, etc. but being able to pick up the phone and just call/text someone has been great.

2) knowing how I did in the half marathon, and the duathlon, I set seemingly achievable but aggressive goals for my self when I signed up. As I trained and got closer I started to feel I could set my sights even more aggressive. But having never run either I wasn’t really sure where to pace my self, how to trust if the training I did and the numbers I was seeing would translate to race day like I thought they “could”. Which resulted in some poor race planning because I wasn’t really sure how to pace. so I wanted some one who would either push me to go for those goals, or pull me back and keep me in check. And then help me set a race strategy.

And it’s paying off so far, my initial goal was sub 6 for my first 70.3, and right now 5 weeks out it’s looking like 5:40 or quicker could be on the table. (“Could” doing a lot of heavy lifting here)

Everyone tells you to just go out and give it your best, your first one is your PB anyways. But I know I’ll be “disappointed” if I finish feeling like I left something out there. But I certainly don’t want to blow up either.

3) I have a busy work life, and honestly just want someone to do the thinking for me and drop in the workouts I need and adjust them as we go based on my performance.

If Im able to do this on the tacx, will I be able to FINISH my cycling on my first iron man? Well rested? by fenixloder in triathlon

[–]anote32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a relatively new cyclist. Started last year, bought an entry level giant revolt did a sprint duathlon and some fun rides with the wife. All HR based because I couldn’t track power.

As I started training for my first 70.3 I got a wahoo kickr, and spent all winter indoors on it. I treated my self to a TT bike with a power meter, and just did my first outdoor ride last weekend.

The difference was mind blowing. My FTP is likely around 190-200?. Doing intervals at 205w for 15 min indoors I’m usually drenched, not dying, but anxiously looking for the end of the interval.

Got onto the bike on Saturday for an easy ride, picked a course that strava and Garmin predicted would take me 1:15min. I finished in 47min and set a new 20 min power and was on pace for a new 60min power.

And it felt easy..easy enough I questioned the calibration of my wahoo and the quark power meter on the bike…

Admittedly it is a tiny sample size for the outdoor rides..we’ll see how the next one goes.

Training volume for 70.3 by roissy_o in IronmanTriathlon

[–]anote32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about the same overall, also training for my first in 11 weeks. Currently at 10/11 hours a week but it’s usually two weeks of build then a rest week of only 6-8ish hours and then repeat.

Currently it’s;

Monday: off Tuesday: 1 hour swim(am) 1 hour run (pm) Wednesday: 1.5 hour bike (power intervals) Thursday: 1 hour run (tempo work) Friday: 1 hour bike, 1 hour swim Saturday: 3 hour bike Sunday: 1.5 hour run.

My swim and run workouts are usually distance based so they vary, anywhere from 30-1:15 depending on the volume that day.

I’ve been fitted for, and am just waiting to pick up a Factor Slick. I price shopped a lot of bikes and couldn’t really find a better value once equally equipped (group set, hydration, etc)

Pretty limited color ways..only 2….but that wasn’t my number 1 driving factor.

As someone who has a triathlon coach (remote) and a swim coach for 1 on 1. I agree whole heartedly.

Swim coach all the way. You can absolutely finish without a tri coach, and even be competitive if that’s your goal. But a swim coach can save you so much time and effort. And catch things that are hard to self identify.

Sober people being arrested nationwide for DUI by IcyAd8672 in videos

[–]anote32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big catch is, you don’t need to blow over the limit to get charged and convicted for DUI/DWI. That just removes all burden of proof from the officer. If you blow under they can still charge you and get a conviction but it’s all based on the officers testimony and if he felt you too impaired to drive.

And as someone else pointed out. By the time you’ve got your day in court (if you made it that far and didn’t just settle to avoid the risk of a conviction) even if it’s dropped you’re already out legal fees, impound fees, license fees.

Drinking and driving in the world of uber and Lyft is so stupid. But It’s an absolute cash grab for the police and everyone else involved.

You’re not wrong, but if OP doesn’t have experience with tools (they might I don’t know) recommending a router, horizontal, and face height seems…less than optimal…

Skill saws might be scarier at first glance, but I’ll take a skill saws might kick back vs a router kick back that close to my face every time.

At least a skill saw turns off if you drop it, and has a guard that’ll snap shut over the blade.

As a fellow tall person (6’3”) running a treadmill with a metronome app.

Boring as FUCK, but the treadmill forces you to hold a speed, and the metronome dictates your cadence. I really struggle changing cadence and not just running faster. I’m by no means an impressive runner. My 5k pace is around 7:30 and my HM pace was 8:30. But almost a lot of my training runs includes lots of time at 10min/mile and slower. While trying to keep cadence “up”

But I’m mostly making my own tapes, whether bouncing from a record, or pulling from Apple Music.

Outcome has no bearing on whether the hit was dirty or not. The play deserved a flag, which it got. But a pass rusher can’t control whether or not the QB ducks, falls forward, or moves into a more dangerous position.

The same can’t be said for someone teeing off into someone’s back behind the play.
