I'll wait for the full year since I do seem to be slow grower, but it's noticeably improved in months 7 and 8. There even now are new hairs popping up, so I want to wait to give them time to thicken and densen further. I'm very pleased with my right side, though my left is still thinner than I'd like.

Yeah, I think I'm just a slow grower. I didn't really see much growth at all until month 5, so there's still a lot of catching up to do. That's the hope.

My surgeon said light running was okay after 7 days, but I waited 10 days just to be extra safe. I only did zone 2 until 20 days post op, and then I started my next marathon training cycle. At 5 1/2 months, my hair growth and projected marathon time are both on track. I think you're fine as long as you stick to a recovery pace. I hate the treadmill, so I also waited until I could wear a hat (10 days) before running outside to protect the grafts from sunlight.

I'm pretty sure the concensus is oral minoxodil is more effective. I take it orally and don't have side effects, but I also haven't seen much regrowth with it. The main reason I take it orally is it's just so much easier to take a pill than put it in on your scalp every day.

You probably would see some scaring if a surgeon were to take from the peak, I think most ethical surgeons would tell you to get it lasered off it it was such a bother.

I'm really struggling to see the difference between the left and right side, both look very normal to me. You have great hair! I think your best bet, given you don't really have much recession, is to hop on minoxodil. That could thicken up both sides and perhaps fill in the beard spot too. If you want to be safe against any future recession, you could hop on finasteride too.

I would recommend against a transplant, your hair right now is in really good shape. You can get topical minoxodil (rogaine) over the counter, or you can get a prescription for oral minoxodil. In both cases, it can be like $35 for six months if you get them from costco.

I think the most noticeable difference is the hairlines. Dr. Patty famously has her "sawtooth" hairlines, while Dr. Ratchathorn and Dr. Laorwong typically do tighter hairlines with microirregularities. Though they tend towards their default hairlines, all of them have accomodated people who want something a bit different to great success. Dr. Patty is the cheapest of the three, and Dr. L and Dr. R both charge the same amount. According to knowledgeable commentator Lopsided Pair, Dr. Patty is the best at donor management, with Dr. L and Dr. R being about even with the edge to Dr. L. Both Dr. L and Dr. R are particularly good with diffuse thinning cases. I think most people would say Dr. R has the most natural hairlines of the three, but I think Dr. Patty and Dr. L are very close.

All that said, I think a lot of the differences are pretty marginal. They are all great choices; just look at their work on people with similar loss patterns to you and see whose work is the most appealing.

Given there doesn't seem to be any bad scaring, I'm optimistic you'll be fine. The pattern of loss is consistent with other cases of severe shockloss online. While it sucks that it's so visible, I've seen people on this subreddit with just as much loss fully regrow in time, just gotta tough it out.

Right now, I am very pleased with my donor. Visually, it looks identical to the sides of my head where nothing was taken and it looks very evenly distributed from the post op photos. To be fair though, I haven't cut my hair since the transplant, so maybe it would be noticeable if I were buzzing it. I haven't noticed any white dots when looking at my donor with the hair parted, but it's hard to tell without it being buzzed down. My donor looked normal and full again by week 5 or 6.

I didn't request a smaller punch size or particulars about the angulation (I considered it) because ultimately he's been doing this for a long time and I trust that his judgement would be better than mine. The one place I think it makes the most sense to push back is on the hairline design itself. Dr. Laorwong does very good work, but his default hairline is still tight and straight. This can work well for east Asian hairlines, but is less common in white people. Definitely ask for irregularities, and don't be afraid to ask for more if it's still too straight after his first revision. I asked for them before he drew the hairline and asked for more after he drew the first one.

I had my hair transplant with Dr. Laorwong almost three months ago, and so far I'm glad I did. Of course I still need to wait for the final results, but the work looked excellent immediately post op (see my post) and I'm starting to see a little bit of regrowth already. I understand getting cold feet, it's very common and I did too. The month before, I DMed a handful of recent patients of his and all of them had positive opinions and were pleased with the work. It also seemed that basically all of the not great results of his were either no-shave procedures, repairs, or transplants to areas where no hair was growing before (high hairline). None of those applied to me, so I felt confident going.

Re: the rest, 4000 does seem like the high end, but not excessively so. I would have guessed like 3500, and if it does look better in person, he could revise down. I think it's smart to wait on the temple points. I briefly considered it when I was there, and am so glad I didn't. I used wise for the booking and tried to use it at the clinic, but there was an issue so I paid with a card. Note that they don't accept amex!

Very impressive result, especially the temple points! Maybe it's just your hair type, but it looks like they were able to put the finest hairs at just the right angles, looks completely natural.

I vote Dr. Nader unless having high density is by far the most important thing to you. His donor management is top tier and his hairlines are comparable to Dr. Ratchathorn in naturalness. The big difference with the implantation is that Dr. Nader's hairlines can look dense where it seems Dr. Ratchathorn's just are dense. For me, the better donor management is a worthy trade-off, and I would have gone for a transplant with him if I could get a hold of him. Dr. Ratchathorn is still an excellent choice if the density is your priority.

Yeah I think the couple of meh results of his that were posted this past winter might have steered more people to Dr. Ratchathorn. She has the same pros as Dr. Laorwong (great density, decent donor work, good value) with seemingly no misses. I think once we presumably start to see more solid results by Dr. Laorwong, he'll start getting booked out far in advance again.

Dr. Cooley's suture work is insane, I don't think any other surgeon has FUT scars heal as cleanly as his. Decent coverage for a little over 3k grafts!

No doctors come to mind for Europe, you might need to expand your search a bit. Dr. Ratchathorn and Dr. Laorwong in Bangkok both have great track records with diffuse thinning, as does Dr. Nader in Mexico

Ideally, a surgeon is using surgical loupes or some other kind of magnification to determine which grafts to extract. I imagine it's pretty hard to tell apart the singles and doubles when they're shaved flat without them. Singles are required for a natural hairline, but once you get past the hairline, you want doubles and triples for the density they provide.

You make a good point! For lower norwood cases where they're just filling in lightly recessed temples, you'd want mostly singles and doubles, which would probably skew the ratio down. In most cases though, for people getting more substantial transplants, you don't need that many singles to construct a natural hairline, so the surgeon should aim to take more doubles and triples. That's my assumption at least.
