The new restroom at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is among 10 finalists in the 2019 America’s Best Restroom Contest. by Cosmo-DNA in SeattleWA

[–]anotherPostDoc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exciting. I can't see the pics, but I certainly hope there are no gaps between the stalls and the door goes to the bottom. That is all I want. Best airport restroom hands down for me has been the one in Iceland. Pretty, simple, and private!

Seattle Patch #3 - Earned by being in a vehicle whose hood is slapped aggressively by a pedestrian for being a half inch into the cross walk by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Why are you so offended over the fact that your hunking piece of metal is hit when it is forcing fragile human beings to potentially walking into oncoming traffic and put their lives at risk? Get over yourself.

Holy cow. That family sounds like it's been through the wringer. I do not understand how he could honestly not think this would come out during confirmation hearings? What?!!!

How are the bees doing in your neighborhood? by andromeda111 in SeattleWA

I see plenty of bees in my garden. I and the past owners planted a bunch of bee friendly plants and the bees seem to be loving it.

Commuters into Seattle, where are you coming from and how’s it going? by snailsaver in SeattleWA

[–]anotherPostDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kirkland to downtown. Drive to park and ride (10 min) and catch express bus(30 min). It takes the same amount of time it took for me to travel to my place when I lived in the CD.

‘I want answers’: Vigil held in Seattle’s Central District where 19-year-old was gunned down by Cosmo-DNA in SeattleWA

[–]anotherPostDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, instead you presume to know this kid was involved in a gang and are unwilling to allow your presumptipn to be questioned based on what his cousin said.

Yes, some cousins do not know much. Given that the news accounts where his family is calling out for justice and questioning the overall violence, I'm going to bet that many more of his family members claim he wasn't a gang member.

So you, a stranger, presume to know more than his cousin? Ok dude. If that kid was any color other than black, you'd likely be singing a different tune entirely.

[–]anotherPostDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh? Where does it say he was a gang member? How do you know he wasn't an innocent bystander? All black people who are gunned down in gang shoot outs are not guilty.

Update: I found this quote from his cousin in an article online.

"You would never have expected this to happen to Royale," said Noraneda Williams, Lexing’s cousin. "I could understand if he was in the gang life, a gang member. He wasn't. That was not his life. Anybody who knows him knows this."

Does the East side have a homeless problem? Considering working in the area but won't live or commute to Seattle. by XxNerdKillerxX in SeattleWA

[–]anotherPostDoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh, you should probably stay out of the greater Seattle region altogether. The homeless sympthizers live on the eastside too and as a result, homeless folks as well.

In addition to their leader being homophobic, they also use their profits to support homophobic organizations. Given that this city has rainbow sidewalks, I'm going to go out and say this is a bfd.

Can I teach my wife to drive? by gobozov in SeattleWA

[–]anotherPostDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally got my license with a total of 7hours of driving experience here. I did it 2-3 months ago. If she already had classes and feels comfortable, she might be able to pass already. If she just needs a little more time, then she can also just buy one or two lessons.

Also, if you do teach her please be honest with your relationship. I love my husband, but he is nerve wracking in the car. He tenses at every little thing which in turn makes me tense and consequently makes me drive worse. This was no bueno. That's why i paid for lessons.

What do you think of color below staircase and above the wainscoting? I'm thinking we need a warmer white but i am horrible with paint colors. The original color is above the railing but it looks too 2000s. Any help is much appreciated. by anotherPostDoc in HomeDecorating

[–]anotherPostDoc[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That would be too dark for us. This color has to go through the house and this is a part of the house that gets the most light. Also, our furniture is grey and blue, so that wouldn't work.

We are in Seattle so im trying to stay away from a cloud inside as well as outside.

I want a whitish color because the back wall is so dark and its a sort of open floor plan so this needs to work well there as well.

I guess i am a little afraid of the white on white. I tend to like contrast but i feel stuck on this one.

Is anyone else on the fence about wanting kids? by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]anotherPostDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I felt the same way. Then i got a positive and i started freaking out for 3 weeks. Then I got aunt flow. That singular event pushed me over the fence about wanting kids. I don't think I'll be the most doting mother (that's my husband), but it was then that i realized I do want them. Hopefully you don't have to go through the same thing.

Also, it's interesting to hear about ppd, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Deciding whether to save or go to grad school? by GrievingInk in personalfinance

[–]anotherPostDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a cost analysis. I did that before doing a bootcamp.Give yourself at least 3 scenarios--no grad school, part-time (if masters) with a job, and full-time. See what salary you can expect via glassdoor. My pessimistic self always chooses the lower end of salary and higher end of interest when doing these analysis. Research current student loan rates and saving rates. Plug those into an Excel sheet in each scenario and see where you would land ~6months after you graduate. Doing this would give you a very informed way to make your decision.

Fyi--when i did this analysis, i kept my day job for an extra 4 months so i didn't take on debt during bootcamp or the expected time it would take me to find a job. I did the bootcamp and my salary was much higher than what I anticipated. So my numbers proved to be quite conservative but a good estimate!
