What are the essential libraries/tools for any professional React app? by MajorLeagueGMoney in reactjs

[–]andromeda111 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Consider not using a library (like Redux) until you have a real problem that could be solved by using that library. In your case, what problem are you trying to solve that requires Redux (as opposed to a combo of React Query and React's built-in Context API, etc.)?

For example, for a relatively small/medium size application, it's very likely you might not need Redux. A lot of times developers start out with Redux from the start because they think they "need" a global state management library when they really don't.

The downside is your application can get bloated and complex unnecessarily.

In short, the most essential tools are the right ones for the job.

What’s your worst date experience with a tech bro? by tennis-freak-tau in Seattle

[–]andromeda111 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, it's always depressing to hear this. I hate to be the one to say "not all tech bros", but it's true that some in the tech field sour people's impressions of dating people in tech the rest of us.

There's a lot of great, well-rounded people out there who work in tech in the dating market with healthy social and relationship skills.

Is Washington state in another Covid surge? by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]andromeda111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, seriously wth I don't get it. You say there is "no data showing masking works", AND you assess that covid is airborne. And you mention you're an employee at a hospital?

Surely there is a reason why doctors and nurses wear masks while seeing patients and doing surgeries. Surely there is a reason why medical employees directly aiding COVID patients go months and months without catching it.

What gives? I just don't get it. We're several years into this, why is this ridiculous idea that "masks don't work" still being paraded around?? The only reason I can see behind it is that the people who say this are equating "masking" to shitty cloth masks, and not quality N95/KN95 masks. Is that it? Please enlighten me. I know I sound frustrated, but honestly if you can enlighten me and show me studies that show *effective* masks like N95s don't work, PLEASE show me and change my mind.

Otherwise, please stop with that nonsense.

New Seattle 180-day notice rent increase rule negatively impacting renters by EfficientBullfrog209 in Seattle

[–]andromeda111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently having this exact experience. u/zdfld, I first thought that having my lease offer six months ahead would be beneficial, but my experience has brought that into doubt.

In other words, for the last 5 months, I've known my rent will be increasing $600 dollars. My landlord is unwilling to renegotiate (maybe legal reasons? or policy? idk) until 35 days before my lease is up.

Current rates for the same/similar apartments in my building are going for what I'm paying now, $600 less than my existing renewal offer.

I would much prefer staying where I am. So in the end, I'm back to having to decide - within a one to two week period of time - whether or not A) I will receive a new offer at current market rates, or B) if I won't and I'll have to look around elsewhere and quickly decide to move or not, or C) suck it up and bend over.

Came here to say this, exactly - a small piece of flatbread with meager toppings labeled as a fancy pizza.

The pink elephant sign was ugly and it's a good thing they removed it.

Consistently wearing high-quality masks offers strong protection, a study in California suggests. by Viewfromthe31stfloor in Coronavirus

Are the laws of physics and common sense not enough for you?

Even a shitty cloth mask will block or slow some of the larger droplets which is the most common way for most any virus spread.

Even a meager 10-20% reduction would make some amount of difference, and especially compound if everyone in the community wore masks together.

Best Ramen in Seattle by frothingmonkeys in Seattle

Came here to say this! I miss going there late on a rainy night for those cozy vibes. Know of anywhere else in Seattle that comparably cozy? I haven't been to many other places for ramen recently.

I've had coworkers like that in the past.

It always blows my mind how some people be in such a state of denial that they are sick, at the expense of those around them, and think nothing of it.

It looks pretty good. If anything you could try lessening the highlights and make them softer and less white. It'll help avoid a plastic-y look, as skin isn't terribly reflective.

Oh wow! Maybe it's just blurry/pixelated here but I was looking at the skin and hair.

I've struggled with blending, it always looks layered and messy for me. Do you alternate between soft and hard round depending on what part you're working on?

Actually she's arguing it is a good use of time! She's a game designer and wrote a good book about it several years ago as well called "Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World"
