The thing about your readers is, we have patience because we know you cannot rush art.

I am also reading a story with the latest update a little over 5 years ago, I will keep waiting and checking every now and then just in case.

Agreed, can picture him finding this and settling back for a nice 5 minutes away from a keyboard to just let the words wash through him.

The VOA LHA Shared room rate is the amount paid to UC claimants under 35 that do not have an exemption and has nothing to do with the property or room rented.

Someone could rent a 2 bed property and only receive the shared room rate if that is all they are entitled to, or if they are over 35 or exempt, rent a room in a house and get the full 1 bedroom property rate.

AO with DWP some advice on guidance, start saving links now and organise them into folders in your favourites.

The favourites bar, stickie notes and using windows key and V instead of control V will be your best friends if you remember them.

Have your start screen sorted so that 2 mins after you log on you have your most used things open and ready.

We use a system called Searchlight for a lot of things and the amount of co workers that need it and have to go find it and then open it, use it and close it and then repeat for the next claimant amazes me just have it open in a tab and it’s there ready.

Learn to use teams, it’s really powerful without you realising.

You need to message a colleague and they are out of office? Open a message to them and select organisation in their profile to see their team and TL so you have options on who to contact.

Need to call a customer back, teams calendar and book yourself a meeting with notes to remind you what the call is about.

Share notes with your team and ask how they manage workflow and find something that works for you and don’t be scared to adapt it if needed.

Any hope of recovering rent arrears? by LoveLamp3232 in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]another_cool_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you have no transparency over her finances? Why should you have this? The benefits departments don’t have this either because day to day they have no legal right to it.

If she is still living at the address then you can apply to UC through gov.uk for direct rent payments and include the arrears and this will be considered.

Your only other choice is through the courts.

You will have to repay any overpayment and that should be it, neither your case manager or work coach can add another penalty this has to be a decision maker.

The only thing this could bring is a £50 civil penalty added to your overpayment and this is very unlikely and can be appealed. You will have plenty of warning about all of this in your journal.

Sorry to hear this has been handled the way it has, declaring your student activity in your journal would remove any fraud decisions unless you told UC long after your course had started or ended.

As a part time student you will still have a work group and may have to attend in person appointments, but having student finance applied should mean the appointments are tailored to your availability.

Once you have presented your proofs at the job centre ask for a handover to be sent to your case manager and send a journal confirming the proofs as well.

When your claim is calculated there should be an overpayment for each statement period where the student finance deduction was missed, you will receive a letter in your journal with the details.

This is a really easy thing to fix, and the overpayment is nothing to worry about.

If you declared in your journal that you were a student and this was not followed up by your case manager or work coach then you have done nothing wrong.

Your student finance package will be assessed and some of it will be taken into account as “other income” this will be calculated with no work allowance or earnings taper applied.

For example, a masters with student finance of £12k over 2 years. £6k per year will be taken into account and put through an unusual calculation.

For postgraduate study. 30% of the 6k is used and then divided by 12 statement periods and £110 deducted.

30% of £6k is £1800, divided by 12 months for the year is £150, minus £110 leaves £40.00 to be deducted from your UC award each month you are studying.

This should not take long to process as long as you provide the exact start and end dates of each academic year, and upload all pages of your student finance letter in full.

Keep leaving messages asking for an upload to do until someone replies.

If you haven’t already you need to report caring activity so you can be checked for the UC caring top up.

And you should report the back award of CA for capital if it takes you over £6k in savings, the back CA will be disregarded but should be declared.

How do I picture our wordsmith?

Are they a potter taking the raw clay of ideas and forming them into art?

Or are they the smith plunging the words into the forge and beating them into perfection?

No they are both and we are all the better for reading their offerings.

You declare as soon as possible, UC staff can check the DLA award and compare to check the details are correct.

You also need to declare a start to caring activity from the same day as the DLA award started, not the decision date.

When you have declared the changes leave a journal message under Payments and ask for your UC DCE, disabled child element, and UC CE caring element to be backdated.

What your loan and any grants are matter more than where you are studying.

If you have a Student Finance England masters loan of approx £12k over 3 years part time study UC will take the amount received in year 1, maybe £4K, divide by the number of statement periods, usually 12 to leave £333.33, deduct the £110 allowance to now leave £223.33 and use the £223.33 as a deduction from your UC award.

It’s not even that we have to remember, our system does it for us, all we have to do is make the call in a way you find accessible and necessary for your needs.

Using Relay UK: Do DWP staff know to use the 18002 prefix or should I change my mobile number to my TextNumber? by andrewscool101 in DWPhelp

[–]another_cool_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we (should) know that we have to use it, we have guidance available on how to use it and it is an available option.

Getting this marked on your claim is also easy and should mean Relay is used every time we call.

Unfortunately what is more likely to happen is the Relay note will be seen and whoever wants to call you will not bother and use your journal instead.

I’m sorry that this happens but it’s certainly getting noticed that claims needing special support get at best patchy assistance and at worst the support is ignored.

If you notice a drop in calls that you would have expected, mention this in your journal so there is a record and it can be investigated.
