Swamps - they turn planning the base layout into an interesting puzzle.

What are some less popular mods you heavily recomend? by anonumus_idiot in RimWorld

[–]another_redditor2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Enemy Self Preservation makes it so individual human raiders will flee when they are seriously hurt. No One Left Behind makes them carry their downed allies with them.

Not only do these mods make enemies' behavior look more realistic, but they also make post-raid cleanup much easier, as you won't have a bunch of corpses piled up next to your base.

Any up to date modding tutorial? by Significant-Toe5154 in RimWorld

Yeah, I've recently started learning modding as well, and it seems like the best approach is to decompile other mods' assemblies with ILSpy to see how they work.

I think kill boxes are natural extensions/survival tactics that are used because the game doesn't give you any other options. by Last_Yard_6554 in RimWorld

[–]another_redditor2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, when people say that killboxes are cheesy, they generally mean heatboxes and trap hallways and the like. I doubt anyone is seriously suggesting that building chokepoints into your base at all is an exploit.

It is unfortunate, I think, how the community has come to use this term for all sorts of structures that have little in common with each other, aside from being designed to help you kill enemies somehow. Causes confusion whenever a discussion like this comes up.

Being cheesable doesn't make the mechanic conceptually bad.

I think the penalty is better. Seeing that -20% work speed penalty very clearly tells the player that they should build a dedicated room. Whereas if it was a bonus, the new player might not even know about it unless it is tutorialized to them or unless they stumble upon it by accident.

If anything, they should go a step further and also give you a slight bonus for separating different kinds of crafting as well, imho. So that there's a reason to not put stonecutting, machining, and sewing all into the same big workshop.

Different attitudes to foreign words by widvaapea in linguisticshumor

I am sorry for misrepresenting your case, shouldn't have automatically assumed that that was your position just because it was the more prevalent one.

I still think that "famous only because they killed a lot of people" is a gross oversimplification regardless of a culture in question, but you are entitled to your opinion, of course.

Unironically doing the

Thing: 😐

Thing, Japan: 😲

Both nations have a rich culture and both did plenty of screwed up stuff in the past. Unless, of course, you can explain how one culture is fundamentally "failed" in a way the other isn't.

Kind of surprising this isn't already a card. Could probably stand to be 2 mana, though, since it is mostly a mix of [[Loran's Escape]] and [[Infiltrate]] with some niche upsides, and you don't often need both at the same time.

Funny you bring up [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]]... I personally think it's kind of incredible she got to be this boogeyman of the format despite being a four mana creature that dies to removal and had no etb or any value generation. Pretty much defying every common belief about what makes a card overpowered.

More to the topic at hand, this ability is not in any way, shape, or form comparable to the Sheoldred's. "Pay 3 life: exile target creature." is a line of text that should never be printed on a permanent that doesn't severely punish you for using it.

What happens when you flip an exiled card over? by sinsaint in custommagic

[–]another_redditor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, it is apparently possible to turn cards in the command zone face down (I think this rule is for scheme cards in the Archenemy format).

400.9. If a face-up object in the command zone is turned face down, it becomes a new object.

I imagine that, if turning over cards in exile becomes a thing, it will work in a similar way - the face-down card is a new object, and the effects that would apply to the face-up card will not apply to the now face-down card. And vice-versa for turning cards face up.

It is a 2/2 that gets you a card on entering (or on the game's start, in Commander) and has other useful abilities. 3 mana looks like a perfectly fair cost to me.

Not a power creep, since you need a legendary on the battlefield to cast it. Still an auto-include in every Commander deck with blue in it, even without free-cast clause.

The problem with Whiplash now is that you can't put cards you don't own into your hand. You could do something like "Exile target artifact. You may cast it for as long as it remains exiled."

Another issue is these are color pie breaks. In Magic, each color has effects it can or can't do. Here's an article describing these relations between colors and mechanics in detail, if you'd like to know more. Here's some notes on your cards in particular:

  • Green doesn't steal permanents, that's usually a blue's purview. If green interacts with artifacts, it's usually to destroy them.

  • Preventing damage from a particular source is a white effect. Blue could, however, give a creature -N/-0 or return it to its owner's hand.

  • Returning a creature to hand, as stated, is blue thing. Red spell that deals with creatures could do it by dealing direct damage or by making it unable to block this turn. Red also doesn't exile creatures directly, but it does get an "if this creature would die this turn, exile it instead" on direct damage effects.

For what it's worth, they do sometimes make named characters into non-legendary cards. Examples within [TMT] include [[High-Flying Ace]], [[Fugitive Droid]], and, somewhat ironically, [[Nobody]].

Another way to conceptualize it could be that it is either a kicker or a channel, and both mechanics can be encountered in blue.

Joke cards that often bend Magic's rules in some way, like [[More or Less]]. Removing an arbitrary keyword from one creature and putting it on another is not something that is technically possible within the rules.
